TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Highly agile
  • Capable of absorbing and transporting liquid matter
STRENGTHS
  • Cat Burglars: Unity bio-droids are exceptionally quick, agile, and mobile, and excel at getting into out-of-the-way places.
  • Bloodsuckers: The machines' primary purpose is the collection of biomatter, whether it be dead flesh, or fresh living blood.
  • Observant: Unity droids possess excellent senses and a wide-spectrum detection package, enabling them to hunt down their quarries through almost any environment imaginable.
WEAKNESSES
  • Squashed: Individual Unity models are fairly small, frail, and weak. A solid, direct blow or shot from almost any small arm will suffice to dispatch them.
  • Rats: Unity droids carry no ranged weapons of any kind, and no close-quarters weapons save for their stabbing mouthparts.
DESCRIPTION

A particularly-repugnant form of bio-droid, the Unity is primarily designed to harvest organic matter for conversion into FormGel.

These machines are quite small, measuring approximately 30 centimeters in length, and standing around 10 centimeters tall in their usual scurrying posture. They are exceptionally quick and agile, capable of leaping many times the length of their own bodies, as well as scaling sheer walls and ceilings.

This superb mobility allows the Unity to evade most physical obstacles. It can climb over even the most treacherous of slopes or debris piles, access ventilation systems, and defeat many security systems by taking routes too constrained for most life forms.

The Unity is equipped with a number of sophisticated sensors, including the Carrion and Aftershock systems. Few droids in the Helix arsenal can boast such excellent senses, and Unity droids are often used as scouts when not performing their primary purpose.

As stated above, this primary purpose is the collection of organic matter, which they achieve through the application of a needle-pointed proboscis mounted on their faceplates.

Privateer raids are seldom performed without casualties, and these machines are often seen scouring battlefields in groups, attaching themselves to the dead. The Unity's proboscis liquefies organic matter, which the machine stores in an expandable FormGel reservoir inside its body. The droid visibly swells when full to capacity, rendering its fleshy interior visible through gaps in its segmented armor plates. This can somewhat hamper its mobility, though the droid is usually still small and quick enough to do its job.

As such, these machines bleed when destroyed, and if inspected closer, are revealed to be seamless fusions of metal and synthetic tissue.

While they generally target the already-dead, Unity bio-droids are not above creating corpses of their own should none be present. Though individually rather weak, they can nonetheless overwhelm individual soldiers in numbers, using their needle-like mouthparts to create nasty puncture wounds. Unity droids can absorb the occasional glancing blow or shot, but are unlikely to survive direct hits from most small arms, instead relying on their agility and sheer numbers to evade harm.

Unity droids are unlikely to attack at all unless they are facing one or two lone targets, preferring to focus on their collection and harvesting duties. Even so, they will fight back if attacked, and in numbers can bring down and exsanguinate all but the mightiest targets.

Unity droids typically ignore other droids, non-corporeal creatures, non-organic life, or any other creatures that lack biomatter to collect.

Outside of the battlefield, these machines are occasionally seen in other capacities, such as in medical facilities or laboratories. As they are quick, clever, and obedient, they can make for useful assistants in such environments. Unity droids can perform a variety of more benevolent medical or scientific functions, such as draining abscesses, injecting sedatives/drugs, collecting tissue/blood samples, or any number of such minor tasks.
