Protocol Droid

Jon mentioned something about perhaps creating one on Skype. I'd like to know if anyone feels this is necessary/would want one/input/whatever. The idea is to have a protocol that specializes in obscure languages, trade languages,dead/near-dead languages, etc to act as a translator. I would assume this droid would have knowledge of their cultural practices, even if it is in a limited capacity.

Intent: To provide a protocol droid specializing in language and culture for the Levantine Sanctum

Development Thread: (Not mandatory on creation, but helps give insight to a submission and shows effort. If not included, depending on the submission, a development thread might be asked for before final judgement)

Manufacturer: (Kuat Drive Yards, BlasTech Industries, etc)

Model: (working example; The Eclipse was a Super Star Destroyer model)

Affiliation: Levantine Sanctum

Modularity: Programming only(addition of new languages/culture)

Production: Minor (?)

Material: (What is it made out of? Certain materials are more resistant, or vulnerable, to certain weapons)

Description: (Include some strengths and weaknesses here. At least a paragraph is desired, but not absolutely mandatory. Describe some of the history behind the submission. Give us some idea of how it might perform its function, what it excels against and what some limitations of it are.)

Classification: Class III

Weight: (Via Metric System)

Height: (Via Metric System)

Movement:

Armaments: (what weapons and defenses does The droid possess, if applicable)

Misc. Equipment: (sensors, scanners, etc.)

This is a good idea. Currently I am in a thread where I am on Mustafar (of all places) and can't understand their language, so if we could have these it would be awesome! I love the idea, and I like the look that @[member="Boolon Murr"] handed to ya! I think this is awesome. THe only thing that I would like to say is that is should be able to adapt to most environments easily, because like C3PO he was slow moving and kind of stuck in the way that he walked. So he didn't do too well in different places.

Ya... Mustafar is certainly fun right now, ash rain and little kids stealing Dove's money. On an unrelated note, i think that @[member="Boolon Murr"] suggestions look interesting and as Dove said appear more adaptable than a C3PO model.

Very nice find @[member="Boolon Murr"] . Love the image.

I do have a droid manufacturing company, didnt want to just throw my own self in there like that. So far I like the responses I'm getting. Let me whip up a tech sub over the next day or two(just a little busy...) and see what everyone thinks.

Intent: To provide a protocol droid specializing in language and culture for the Levantine Sanctum

Development Thread: None

Manufacturer: Salacia Consolidated

Model: L1-AL Series

Affiliation: Levantine Sanctum

Modularity: None

Production: Mass

Material: Flexsteel

Description:

L1-AL series protocol droids are designed to provide a link between languages and cultures. With a VerboBrain, L1-AL protocol droids adapt to unknown languages with the ability to learn and translate on the go. While fluent in all forms of communication, the L1-AL excels at ancient and dead forms of communication. In addition to its ability to verbally communicate, L1-AL units have the ability to cross cultural lines. Cultural programming is included to insure no accidental mishaps(such as an out of place fork or clothing design) will be an issue for the end user.

Despite a skeletal looking appearance, the L1-AL unit is quite the pacifist. Regarding its duty to translate and often mediate between users, the unit does not interject its own opinions or ad lib translations, remaining neutral as possible. With its neutral nature and lack of armaments, the L1-AL can find itself at the mercy of its users when things go south. Plated with Flexsteel to help avoid external damage, the L1-AL also has its 'killswitch' at easy access at the back of the neck. This is both a strength and weakness of the design, depending on the intention of the parties involved.

It is highly recommended the L1-AL receives minimal memory wipes due to its programming. Failure to comply with this recommendation will result in loss of language ability and will bring forth quirks in personality. Data compression is the preferred route regarding regular maintenance.

Classification: Class III

Weight: 77.6 Kilograms

Height: 1.7 Meters

Movement: Bipedal

Armaments: None

Misc. Equipment: TranLang Communications Module(x1), SyntheTech VerboBrain(x1),Linguistic Module(x1), Olfactory Sensor(x1), Photoreceptors(x2)

Looks great :p

If they'll want a development thread or you would want to put into the droid languages lost since times of Old Republic, HK could donate a slimmed down copy of his programming to base it on, like only the language and cultural information portion he received originally from before Mandalorian Wars and whatever else he accumulated throughout the years.

Thanks for the feedback, glad everyone seems to like it. Should we do a dev thread like the one Sammo described? Then in the description, edit it a bit to define the origins or parameters of how the droid would know such language. Its after the Gulag virus, I imagine it like the Galactic Black Death. No one had time to maintain history, so much of it is probably lost or hiding in droids such as HK.

I'd be down for it and I think it would be nice for anyone in the faction who felt like joining.
