A Week after the events of Prisoners of War

IMPERIAL CONFEDERATION
BAROS,
OUTER RIM TERRITORIES

A Single Imperial Battlecruiser emerged from hyperspace above the Outer Rim world of Baros, soon followed by a pair of Star Destroyers. Onboard the bridge, Marlon Sularen sat calmly in his command chair, observing the rocky planet below. It was a densely populated world, home to billions of sentients, with rocky terrain and heavy gravity. It held little strategic importance for the Confederation, which already had little intention of staying here for far too long.

Approximately a week ago, the Confederation's Military High Command had received a distress signal coming from the Baros System from an Imperial Stormtrooper who was previously stationed on the portion of the Mon Cala Shipyards that had been stolen by the Wild Space Rebellion during their bold attack on the planet. According to him, they had dumped the entire Imperial staff from the stolen portion of the orbital ring-shaped space station on Baros before heading farther south-west, leaving them stranded on the planet, which was why they had sent the call.

What really caught the Confederation's attention, however, was what followed the Stormtrooper's message. An abrupt interruption from a distorted voice telling Marlon Sularen himself to pick up his men, taunting him with the dilemma of retrieving his men and facing a possible Rebel ambush, or leave them to their fate and remain safe within Imperial borders. Naturally, Sularen chose the former option, unwilling to leave his fellow soldiers behind nor allow a mere Rebel to impose some sort of moral dilemma on him.

However, the collapse of the Imperial Confederation mere days after the signal was sent forced a delay, as Imperial assets were recalled to a collection of designated fortress worlds, while also reducing the number of available assets that could be used to extract the Imperial personnel left stranded on Baros. Nevertheless, despite these complications, the Supreme Commander had arrived at the planet with the long-awaited Imperial task force, ready to extract the Imperials whose rescue was long overdue.

Now all that was left was to actually locate the 34th Stormtrooper Battalion and the other Imperials from Mon Cala, if they were even still on the planet, and then finally get them back to what was left of Imperial space.

Still seated in his command chair, Sularen turned to look at the senior communications officer and gave him a single order. "Send the message out. Let's see who will respond," he stated. The communications officer simply nodded and said the usual "Yes, Sir," then immediately got to work as a single message was transmitted across the system.

"TO SERGEANT COLLINS AND THE REMAINING IMPERIAL PERSONNEL LEFT STRANDED ON BAROS BY THE WILD SPACE REBELLION, THIS IS THE INV SULAREN'S REVENGE, FLAGSHIP OF THE IMPERIAL NAVY. WE HAVE ARRIVED TO BRING YOU BACK TO IMPERIAL SPACE. PLEASE TRANSMIT YOUR COORDINATES."

"Supreme Commander Sularen."
The voice that cut across the channel was calm, precise—too controlled to belong to any stranded trooper.
"You are not speaking to Sergeant Collins."
A brief pause.
"You are speaking to the man currently ensuring what remains of the 34th Battalion is still alive."
Static flickered—then stabilized.
"Your transmission has been received across multiple vectors on Baros. If your intent was to locate your personnel…"
A faint shift in tone.
"…you have also successfully alerted every hostile actor within range."
Another pause. Calculated.
"Your soldiers are alive. Reduced. Mobile. And currently operating under conditions that do not favor open extraction."
A data packet transmitted—fragmented coordinates, partial, shifting.
"Do not attempt a direct landing."
The words came sharper now.
"The original distress signal was compromised. The interruption you received was not posturing—it was confirmation of surveillance and interception capability."
A beat.
"You are being watched."
Silence hung for a moment before Cipher-7 continued.
"The Wild Space Rebellion did not abandon your personnel out of convenience. They repositioned them."
A slight distortion—intentional.
"As bait."
Another pause.
"I have been embedded on Baros since prior to your arrival. I have observed three separate reconnaissance sweeps triggered by your fleet emergence. You are already influencing the board."
His voice lowered slightly.
"If you proceed with standard extraction protocol, you will lose ships."
A final packet transmitted—more refined coordinates, this time paired with terrain overlays.
"I will guide you to them."
A beat.
"But you will follow my instructions."
The calm returned. Absolute.
"You will reduce your presence in low orbit. You will cease open-band transmissions. And you will prepare for a controlled ground insertion under my direction."
A final pause.
Because this next part mattered.
"If you want your soldiers back, Supreme Commander…"
"…you will let me run this operation."

Transmission ends.

To say that Amni wasn't pleased with Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen leadership would be an understatement. The man was busy driving what's left of the Imperial faction to the ground picking fights he knows he can't win. The botched operation involving a High Republic Senator still left an awful taste in her mouth. All that time wasted and for what? The guy to be released to the Republic? Amni was already sick of Sularen and his incompetent troopers, if she had half the mind, she would decapitate the old bastard right now but there was no one worthy to take the mantle upon his death. So, like any good soldier, Amni held her tongue and followed Sularen. However, that doesn't mean she's not going to kill him. In fact, she is thinking of taking out the rabid bastard when the time was right.

Amni stood at a soldier's attention, feet spread apart and hands clasped behind her. She was on the bridge observing the nearest star system next to Marlon. They were supposed to conduct a rescue mission Imperial POWs being held under those rebel bastards. The Imperials may be fractured but they still hold a tenuous grasp on the Tingel Arm. The rebels at full strength still paled in comparison to the Imperials. Time to put them in their place.

"What are my orders sir?" Amni asked Marlon. "I can rescue those prisoners and take out the rebels faster than anyone on this ship combined. Let me lead the assault."
