Policing Planets&Governing

Well, for the governing thing, we're still in construction on that aspect. The Alliance is a loose confederation of worlds. Each one is run by its Governor, and they for all intents and purposes stay an independent planet-nation. There isn't really going to be much int he way of a Senate, at least not right away, who knows if we can clean up the way it behaves.

Governing, make trade laws, make diplomatic missions, and work to expand a system's influence in the galaxy to help the Alliance. Currently we've got a huge enemy and the Alliance was founded to help clear up the galaxy from the muck that other nations create, so its a lot more focused on keeping things how people want them run, hence planets existing how they always have, and eliminating Dark Side governments, hence the large push in our military

Hope this helps a bit, but keep asking, we'll keep refining

As much as I love political RPs, I'm not sure I see an official council or body of government fitting the alliance at this time. Mostly because we are much too young as a faction. We still need to figure out what we are.

I do want to stress that we will have planetary governors, so if you want to run a planet and inspire political RPs that way, there is a chance to do so here.

If a faction-wide governmental body is something that alot of people are interested in, we could look into implementing it in a way that fits us? But IMO, it's cart before the horse.

This faction is mostly about freedom to write as you please. Obviously things have to make some sense as to why a character is a political power in our new faction.

That said, when it comes to governors the Faction Admins roleplay the NPC triumvirate who have final powers on all major decisions for the faction.

I'd love to see all kinds of civilian characters, from doctors and scientists to lawyers and governors.

[member="Romeo Sin"] and I have been PMing about this for a day, and I wanted to see what other thoughts were.

The idea is to retain the autonomous nature of planets in the GA, but allow governors (or their representatives) to participate on an advisory council to the Chief of State. This council would serve to communicate and showcase planetary development to other governors, and allow governors a platform with which to discuss and advise the Chief of State on alliance-wide policy. Although the advisory council's advice would be non-binding (aka, the Chief of State would not be legally obligated to follow it, nor anyone else), the autonomous nature of planets in the GR would temper the Chief of State's decisions (lest a big enough philosophical divide lead to the secession of a planet). And remember, this is all RP and IC consequences, OOCly the faction wouldn't just lose planets at the drop of a hat.

An idea to make the body more/less powerful would be to require the advisory council to operate on consensus. That is, for all planets to agree on a course of action before such could be presented to the Chief of State. While this might promote compromise, it might also encourage stubborn stalemates (and result in planetary opinions being lost on that particular issue). Should keep the RP fresh and risky for politicians, and non-offensive for the rest of the faction.

Feedback is welcome.

The Triumvirate is going to have final say on matters which affect the faction as a whole in a large way. That doesn't mean the faction admins aren't going to listen to the member base.

I don't want things overly tied down on rules, regulations and restrictions. If some people want to roleplay governors discussing tax cuts for one of the member worlds, crack on!

If there was to be any formal organisation of policy that would affect the whole faction I'd propose this:

Any group can call an emergency council session (EMC). This may be Jedi, Governors, high ranking officers, scientists, economists, etc. Debate must be held in a public forum and full minutes produced (ic). Recommendations may then be passed up to the Triumvirate to rule on.

Chief governors can already have discourse with the Chief of State, if I'm reading things correctly. A council, as you have proposed, feels largely too structured for how early in the game this faction is. The simplicity of the idea that we are here to help people, not govern them, is really key to the idea for me personally.

Basically my perception of your proposal is cool but something that can be considered in the works without being formally tied to the leadership structure of the faction. Sort of like an open door policy between the governors, chief of state, and chief governors. Just pick up the phone, she's not gonna ignore anyone.

The trick is, right now... spoiler alert, but we don't have planets.

If you want to play politician, and work on getting some planets ready to join when we go major, that's awesome. Just know, the GA is going to be a loose combine. Planets united because they want to be free of other rulers, planets that understand stopping the dark side and the One SIth is what the galaxy needs.

Just so we're on the same page. Go have fun, play your game, but ultimately thats how the faction is going to be running until we get major, start grabbing planets and start grinding the One Sith into dust.

I don't mind if the council is discussed ICly as a goal instead of a reality. It gives the RP a direction to head, and like [member="Romeo Sin"] mentioned, allows for another element for pitching inclusion to planets.

I just hope that the GA leadership doesn't purport to be open to multiple avenues of RP, but at the same time hostile to particular kinds of stories. I'll be honest, I see quite a lot of hostility to an idea that is meant to be fun to RP, and I expect that there's some OOC baggage attached. That's fine. But if this is a new faction and a new idea, then let the slate be wiped clean and let some politician characters write stories, too, without the little box they seemed to be couped up in.
