Planetary Question

Now I can build worlds all day, I love doing it. However I have an itch that I've always wanted to scratch when it comes to Star Wars RP. Now I know this is going to sound silly but bear with me here. I'd like a planet much like Firefly's western settings. However in this case electronics don't work on the planet, from lightsabers to blasters and comm links, nothing works here. The only way on or off the planet would be at ports set up at the poles where electronics do function. I think the rock on the world's crust would be highly magnetic combined with electromagnetic storms or something of the like. I know things don't have to be 100% scientifically accurate because it's Star Wars, but do you think an idea like this could work? Having a western planet where people could get their western RP on.
