OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: Terrible Glare Observation Post
  • Classification: Outpost
  • Location: PL-40112-CE-021105
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire
  • Population: Sparse
  • Demographics:
    • Human (~93%)
    • Zeltron (~2%)
    • Chiss (~2%)
    • Mirialan (~2%)
    • Sith Pureblood (~1%)
  • Accessibility: The facility itself is covered partially by some tree canopies and plant overgrowth, the entrance is a large automated blast door that is guarded by a rotation of two armed soldiers at any given time. The planet having little to no civilized life and little to no structures, besides similar abandoned cult temples, puts the outpost in a relatively remote location that is difficult to access without otherwise knowing the general vicinity of the post.
  • Description: The base is a repurposed cult temple previously operated by Rozzums and near-human cultists that has been somewhat updated with more modern technology and defenses more suitable for a military outpost. The outpost's architecture resembles Old Republic, Sith Empire era, style buildings as it was likely built in that frame of time, and features the following: large exterior walls which double as a part of the outpost with rooms converted to barracks and research hubs; bridge-like walkways which go over the basin at the center of the complex; a central pyramid-like structure that formerly housed the place of worship for the church of the Terrible Glare which has been repurposed as a command center for on-duty soldiers and communication officers to maintain communication with the Sith Empire on Bastion via hyperwave communication.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Entrance - Exterior Courtyard

  • The entrance is a single blast door which is surrounded by high-rising walls of the facility. A small courtyard of sorts creates a clearing from the general flora of the planet, which may make it easier to identify from low altitudes. There is a single Anti-Air turret placed atop the entrance on some exposed rock structure. A crane is located towards the western side of the courtyard which was used during the early days of converting the temple into an observation post to clear any of the rock structures that were present in what would eventually become the small courtyard.
Entrance - Interior Vista

  • The interior of the entrance, upon passing through the blast door, is a walkway which splits off on either side with small pathways that bridge over the base level below that has been dug out and exposed. The two walkways lead to numerous entrances to the barracks placed in the large exterior walls, as well several research hubs meant to study the natural flora and fauna on the planet. If one continues along the walkways without entering either of the corridors that run along the interior of the exterior walls one would find themselves at the center of the complex on its top level. There are several vantage points here for defense in the instance of an assault on the base by the Rozzums or the other cultists that had been expelled from it during the Sith Empire's conquest, with several balconies and slits carved into the walls for strategic positioning for soldiers. Small turrets have been placed in the tops of the posts of a bridge path between the two barrack entrances, although these turrets are merely ion blasters meant to stun intruders and are not expected to be lethal.
Center Complex - Top Level, Exterior

  • Compared to the rest of the observation post, the center of the complex is rather small. The exterior of this central structure is a single large bridge structure which leads from the Interior Vista to the central stricture itself, atop which is a large tree. There is a walkway which wraps around the central structure, while beyond this walkway and beneath the bridge is the bottom level of the center complex, a basin of sorts, where garrisoned troops partake in drills and training A small stairway leads up from the basin to the rear of the central structure to the walkway which wraps around it. There are multiple laser turrets placed along the cylindrical complex in each section of walling, for intruders, and are fully intended to be lethal unlike the ion blasters situated near the entrance. The central structure itself has no physical door, but is equipped with a simple ray shielding device for cases of emergencies.
Center Complex - Bottom Level, Basin

  • The basin surrounding the central structure, at the base of the center complex, is still rather rough around the edges, with hanging moss and exposed tree roots as well as other flora present. This is intentional, to give soldiers engaged in drills and training some familiarity with the planet's landscape and the ruins nearby. As this entire area is mostly exposed to the walls which form a circle around it, where the laser turrets at the top level are situated, there are no further weapon emplacements built into the observation post here. This could theoretically provide some cover if an angle beneath the bridge structure or central structure is found that prevents laser fire from reaching it.
Center Complex - Top Level, Interior of Central Structure

  • At the very heart of this observation post is the central structure, the interior of which is moderately sized, holding equipment for communication and observation. This structure's interior has largely been converted into a command center, with special equipment meant to keep an eye on planetary readings as well as monitor readings from the system at large, and serves as the main connection between Bastion and PL-40112-CE-021105. A single ray shield device acts as an emergency barricade for the exposed entrance, and the narrow nature of the entrance makes intruding on the room while soldiers are armed and present a dangerous proposition, as it limits the line of sight for seeing those who are actually present and their numbers as well as providing cover for those inside from would-be assailants. A hyperwave beacon is present near the east side of the interior, which can communicate with ships in the system or even with the Empire proper on Bastion.

SECURITY
High

  1. x4 Ion Blaster Turrets in Interior Vista

  3. x1 Anti Air Turret emplacement over the entrance.
  4. 60 permanent garrisoned soldiers
  5. 10 Decimator Drones
  6. Hyperwave Communication Array in the interior of the Central Structure
  7. x1 Ray Shield in the interior of the Central Structure positioned at its entrance (only enabled during emergencies)
  8. Radiation detection and reading equipment

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Originally the Terrible Glare Observation Post was an old temple built by the Rozzum found on the planet, and further expanded upon by the Church of the Terrible Glare as a means to contact beyond from beyond the known galaxy. While this religious heresy ultimately failed, the Sith Empire moved in to occupy this temple during their taking over of the planet in order to rid the planet of the primary members of the cult's following and thwart a plan to bring ancient and eldritch horrors into the galaxy. Following Sith occupation of the planet this temple was converted into a military base that doubled as an observation post to keep an eye on both the planet and the system, as it neighbors the capital world of Bastion and the very heart of the Sith Empire.

This closeness to the capital of the Sith Empire was the cause for the decision to use the facility as the means to relay radiation readings from the system back to Bastion, ranging from cronau readings to more general cosmic anomalies.
