STRENGTHS
  • Electronic Warfare: The sophisticated nature of the Piett-class’s ECM suites make it well-suited to both offensive action (via communication and scanning jammers, as well as a contingent of copycat pods) and defensive action (through missile deactivators).
  • Versatile: The Piett-class can be confidently termed a “do-everything ship,” a vessel capable of adopting a number of roles all at once. It can maintain a consistent speed to match that of a larger fleet, transport companies of troops within its barracks facilities, fend off hostile attackers through its ECM suites and robust armament, and bring offensive starfighters into combat engagements.
  • Communications: The communications suites of the Piett-class frigate have been optimized for the purposes of coordinating entire fleets, capable of handling immense data payloads over long distances from many vessels at a time.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hangar Block: Located beneath the dorsal frame of the Piett-class, the vessel’s rather expansive hangar block presents a vulnerable target for enemy attack. Should the frigate’s shields fall, the ammunition storage facilities located in the hangar can be targeted and made to cause explosive detonations throughout the section.
  • Exposed Command Bridge: Aside from the hangar block, the Piett-class’s bridge also presents a strategically important target when the vessel’s shields have fallen. Concentrated fire on the module may quickly eliminate the majority of the ship’s command staff.
  • Vulnerable Engine Block: The two post-most and starboard-most ion drives of the Piett-class are relatively unarmored when compared to the rest of the vessel. Concentrated fire can quite easily disable the frigate’s mobility.
DESCRIPTION
As the ideals and nature of Bilbringi and its defense force drifted from those favored by its parent Galactic Alliance, so too did its arsenal of vessels. Designs nearly identical to the vessels of the old Imperial navy dominated the planet’s military force. But when put into perspective with the changing nature of the galaxy, these were growing quite obsolete. The relatively sparse modifications granted to the BIDF’s fleet of Imperial II star destroyers did little to change the outmoded status of many such vessels.

As pressures rose from within its neighboring nations, the Bilbringi Imperial Defense Force sought to devise its own ace in the hole, a vessel capable of augmenting the strength of its preexisting cruisers without needing to outright replace them: the Piett-class Heavy Frigate.

The outward appearance of the Piett-class was modelled after the ancient frame of the Arquitens-class Light Cruiser (x), though scaled upward and otherwise nothing like the latter when the vessels’ internal schematics were compared. The heavy frigate was granted a sizable contingent of electronic countermeasures suites, defensive missile emplacements, and offensive warhead launch tubes; a sizable hangar facility with dedicated accommodations for Bilbringi’s fleet of TIE-styled starfighters. And most defining of all, the Piett-class was equipped with a robust array of communications and electronic warfare equipment as to augment its own capabilities when isolated, and to coordinate the operations of entire task forces if need be.
