TECHNICAL INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • [Strength] The Pertinax-Class represents a convergence of everyone’s favorite droid characteristics: strength, speed, agility, endurance, and intelligence, all turned up to 11. These units are devastating in combat and skilled infiltrators to boot. This is the ideal assassin droid. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
  • [Weakness] Cryogenic weapons are effective against Pertinax units, capable of bypassing their energy shielding and disrupting their armor’s self-repairing attributes. This makes them much more vulnerable to traditional attacks.
  • [Weakness] Ion weapons may not provide a one hit knockout when engaging Pertinax units, but they are still effective in chewing through its shields. Further, ion blasts have been observed to reduce the effectiveness of the droid’s on-board targeting system and and general responsiveness. This reduction compounds with every subsequent ion blast, until the buffer finally shorts out and the droid is deactivated completely.
DESCRIPTION

The Pertinax-Class Assassin Droid is the Helix Syndicate’s favored line of automatons. And for good reason: these are some of the most advanced assassin droids ever produced.

The exterior of Pertinax units is composed of the highly coveted material of laminanium. Not only does this make it very durable, but also self-healing. The droid’s body itself is composed of quadanium, further increasing its durability in the event that the laminanium armor should fail it. Underneath all of this is a skeleton of durasteel. Because if you’ve managed to tear through a personal shield, laminanium plating, and a quadanium body, there really isn’t much else left for the engineers to do to stop you.

An Ionization buffer also protects Pertinax units from being abruptly deactivated by EMP or ion attacks. Like any resistance conferred by an Ionization buffer, however, it can eventually be short-circuited and thus overcome through repeat or very heavy attacks. The buffer does little to protect Pertinax units from the residual effects of ion attacks, however. Tests have revealed direct hits from ion weapons reduce the Pertinax unit’s targeting efficiency and reaction time.

Pertinax units share the same programming suite of its cousins, the Trajan Mk. I and the Sallust-Class Service Droid. Depending on the programming installed, the Pertinax can be proficient with a wide range of weapons and is even capable of overseeing military operations, either on a grand scale or fulfilling leadership roles in small squads. The Sagittarii-Class Targeting System also helps to guide the droid’s aim when equipped with conventional firearms, giving it an edge in terms of accuracy when compared to other droids.

These assassin droids also come with a variety of added implements to help it perform its duties- whatever those might be. The Myriad Visual System allows the droid to cycle between night vision, thermal vision, and other visual spectrums as necessary. The Audio-Visual recorder also enables the droid to produce high definition recordings of whatever it can hear and see, provided it chooses to activate the feature. A segregated commlink allows the droid to receive orders and communications without the risk of a slicer hijacking the signals and seizing control.

Other basic equipment includes a vocabulator capable of both traditional and binary communication. A Computer probe grant the droids the ability to directly interface with most computers to retrieve data or manipulate computer systems. A sensorscope and General Scanner work in conjunction to allow the droid to passively scan anything that needs scanning. In addition to those more basic tools, Pertinax units are equipped with built in retractable vibroblades under each wrist, a poison dart launcher on the left forearm, a whipcord launcher on the right forearm, and a sound dampener built directly into the droid. Various other devices to assist in slicing can also be found in these models.

Only ten Pertinax units are ever active simultaneously due to the limited availability of resources needed to maintain them. Four operate in a single unit, four operating individually, and the remaining two more are assigned to the Syndicate’s current leader as a protection detail.
