The Peltast-Class Sniper Destroyer was a specialized class of warship utilized by the Chiss Ascendancy. Developed by Empire of the Hand and Chiss Ascendancy cooperation, the design has endured over the centuries as one of the Ascendancy's premier vessels to serve on. Used mostly in defensive positions, the slow-moving vessel was equipped with a Super-Heavy Long-Range megamaser which found its roots in the Onager-Class Star Destroyer. The single weapon was the vessel's main answer to violence, able to fire the weapon far outside the normal effective range of a turbolaser or normal megamaser. Its destructive power was akin to planetary defense cannons which could crack unshielded vessels in two in a single blast. Unfortunately, due to the weapon's immense power draw, it lacked many other common Chiss weapon systems such as plasma sphere launchers, breacher missiles, and maser cannons. Instead, it relied on the lower-powered spectrum lasers and ion cannons for its defense along with a few megamaser batteries. It also lacked the Batuu-Type shield and instead opted for a more standard electrostatic barrier.
The Chiss glass cannon often flew at the rear of formations or lay hidden behind astral bodies in defense of Chiss Worlds. Its advanced long-range sensors allowed the vessel to act as an early warning ship and defensive position for local forces to rally around. The Petlast was seen as the perfect example of what Chiss military doctrin should have been, according to the Syndicure, a reactive vessel made for the defense of their people. However with Csilla destroyed and ever vessel required to fight back the tide of Maw raiders, the Peltast has become a common flagship for Chiss formations.
