Past the Point of No Return

Why did the man think he was the one who did wrong here? He did nearly shoot him, he remembered. As the man finished patching her up, she had a tear. That was a no no for him. The last time she cried, she killed him almost. But he couldn't just stand there, Alask would sit down again on the bed but a few inches away. Then, he would turn his head to look at her. "Look, I don't do good in these situations. You know, emotional ones. But I've learned talking about it helps, not expressing it though." he paused not knowing whether he was helping or not. "What's going on? I sense something deep is wrong."

I nodded at the man's belated understanding of the situation. She was the other Imura. Nick's sister? Wife? Girlfriend? But now she was crying, and even I could realize I'd struck a nerve.

"Look, I'm sorry. You're name's Imura, right? Like, Nickolas Imura, the guy who tried to melt me into a furry golden puddle? Is he dead, or something?"

Lexa drew her knees to her chest again, her eyes still on the floor. Just hearing his name was enough to make her wince slightly. "He's gone. I can't find him. He left me. They always leave me. I'm always alone. Always..." Her voice was soft. So soft that you had to really listen to decipher what she was saying. It was like a hollow, forlorn kind of whisper.

He thought about how she felt. Someone leaving you, unfortunately, he'd never been in love or anything so that wouldn't be easy to think about. "Do you know why?" he asked in a concerned tone. Alask remembered seeing someone named Vincent Imura, formerly Nickolas Imura somewhere. Maybe the bounty boards. The woman seemed more calm this time. Hopefully, that was good.

My ear twitched at the woman's tone, and then both of them drooped, like they had when I was moping before. At least I wasn't crying flames anymore. That might've been too much for my guests to handle. But one tear did run down, and burned as it went. Having Meili leave me for such a long while, even if she'd had a good reason, had been painful for me to bear so I'd wandered off. And having Chiasa play with me for a bit, and then run off to Antecedent and ignore me had been understandable, but also painful.

"I don't know why he left, but now I understand why you cracked like that. People keep on going places they don't want me to follow."

((No problem, I'll just poke you when I post))

Lexa laid her forehead on her knees, saying no more. She didn't want to talk to strangers. She wanted to talk to Asher, and Nickolas, and Azekor. To Morna... Why was she forced to bear through this? Why was it always on her shoulders? And now, a baby. She couldn't have felt more hopeless than in that very moment.

Alask saw a tear go down the man's face. Unable to have the feeling, he just sat there quietly. Until he spoke again. "I'm not able to understand how you two feel, its kinda pathetic. But, maybe I will one day." he paused. "I'm not the wisest guy in the galaxy but I believe relationships aren't meant to last. Either you split up with someone, someone you love gets hurt, or worse, you have to make a decision. I was told life was simple, survive, interact, and die." It was true, that was basically his life. The wars in the galaxy didn't help nor did the battles or just conflicts. "I'd better get going. Don't wanna be here when the Tatooine forces are here." he said starting to walk towards the ramp. "I hope you find your friends and family... make sure to stay away from flaming foxes teeth." he joked walking down the ramp when he forgot his blaster rifle.

I smiled at the not-Jedi's back, and punched the hatch release with the Force. So, I was going to be alone with the possibly insane-with-grief lava woman? Fine. This was going to require more caffeine. I poured myself another cup of the coffee, and looked with interest at the Imura woman who was now curled into a ball.

"Well, Miss Imura... I can't help you with Nick being gone. You certainly can't help me with my parents or exes being gone, either. So, I'm gonna sit in this chair and mope with my coffee, while you sit on that bed and mope with..."

I looked around, noticing I hadn't even offered my guest a drink.

"... Something. You want coffee?"

She took the cup and just stared at it. Lexa wasn't hungry, or thirsty. "... I tried to kill you..." She murmered. It was odd to her that Malachite would so openly converse with someone who had tried to melt him to sludge without a single twinge of remorse.

I grinned at the Imura woman, and sipped at my coffee. When my coffee was finished, I put it down and flipped myself over so I was looking at her upside down, with my feet and tail hooked over the top of the armchair, and my head almost hitting the floor.

"If I held grudges against everybody who tried to kill me, I'd have no friends. On the other hand, if I held grudges better, Nick might still be alive. I might've kept an eye or two on him."

I shrugged, just to shrug.

"Plus, it's not like you did me any permanent damage. You can attempt to melt me whenever you want... As long as it's not on this ship. I'm overly fond of my little bird."

Lexa eyed Malachite without turning her head. "Next time, you might not be so smug about it..." If she went on the fritz again, there was no telling who or what she would destroy next. She sipped the coffee, grimacing a bit. It was REALLY sweet....

I grinned wolfishly at the Imura woman, and shrugged upside-down. What was there for me not to be smug about? I'd saved a town, proved to myself I wasn't worthless, and I was now talking to somebody related to the enemy I'd admired most of all. This was a pretty good day for me, actually. So, I continued looking smug, and finally noticed that the woman who'd tried to burn me to death under an hour before was actually strikingly pretty.

"I'm caffeinated, and I feel distinctly less horrible than I did a while ago. You'll excuse me if I keep on looking smug, Miss Imura."

Lexa took another sip of the overly-sweet coffee. She looked down at Malachite. If she was in a better, less doom-filled mood, she might actually consider the tall and slender fox-man to be handsome. "It's Lexa." She said. Though Miss Imura sounded nice, it made her fell just a bit too formal and dignified. "How did you know that I was an Imura?" She wasn't related by blood, after all.

My eyes widened as I remembered the datapad tucked into my belt, or rather probably melted wherever I'd dropped it. For a seventy-year old fox-man, I could be pretty clumsy with small objects. I sighed at myself, and my tail twitched.

"Lexa, you sort of... Dropped your datapad directly on my head. It's got "Imura" etched into it. Or rather, it did... I'm sure it's melted to sludge, by now."

I grinned sheepishly, and wagged my tail again.

"Oh, and my name's Malachite."

[member="Lexa Imura"]

"Oh..." Of course it did. It was Nickolas's, after all. She never ended up with anything that was actually her own. She sat down her coffee and glanced about the small room. She stayed quiet for a while, just thinking and looking obviously depressed.
[member="Malachite Avachei"]

I drooped again as I realized I'd said something wrong. Lexa had started glancing around the room gloomily again. Probably bad. I almost reached out to touch her, but I didn't want to move from my chair. She'd probably take whatever I did wrong. So, I sat there and looked around the room, too. It was kinda awkward to notice that this room was sparse compared to some of the ones on the upper decks. Just a bed, a couple of comfy chairs, and the counter that had the coffee machine on it. My voice was an almost inaudible mutter.

"I really need to put more stuff in these rooms."

[member="Lexa Imura"]

Lexa shrugged. "It's fine..." She never really cared about how fancy things were. She stood up and stretched a bit, still wincing a bit from the bite mark. "Your teeth are very sharp."
[member="Malachite Avachei"]

I looked at Lexa, grinning sheepishly again. I only had four sharp fangs. Some Ruffies had whole mouths full of teeth sharper than mine. I didn't mention that at all. Wasn't likely to garner any sympathy from this woman I bit.

"I don't bite people... Usually. I only found out about the power drain thing by accident one day."

She didn't need to hear about my old girlfriends, either. I'd just met her, after all.

[member="Lexa Imura"]

So that's what had happened. He'd taken her energy and made her pass out. Lexa didn't quite know what to think about that. She looked over at Malachite. "Is that why I passed out?" She asked.
