GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Pansyn
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Homeworld: Baskarn
  • Language: Pandynian
  • Average Lifespan: 400 standard years
  • Estimated Population: Scattered
  • Description: A large bipedal ursine species, the Pandyn live in secluded enclaves deep on three jungle worlds. They live lives of peace and ease, isolated from the galaxy for tens of thousands of years. Peaceful creatures, they have not been involved in war since before the rise of the Old Republic. Lazy, large, and happy, the Pandyn are on the verge of extinction, and must obtain outside help or die.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average height of adults: Males are 2.5 meters tall, and females are 2 meters tall.
  • Average length of adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Underneath their heavy fur coats, the Pandyn's skin is an ugly pink.
  • Hair color: White on their torsos and heads, with black limbs, ears, necks, and around the eyes.
  • Distinctions: The two most notable traits of the Pandyn are their size and fur patterns. The males of the species especially are larger than humans and broad, with thick rough hair. Females are more slim, and shorter, while still considered tall to most humanoids, and are noted for having much softer fur. Their coloring is distinctive as well, setting them aside from many ursine species across the galaxy. As they become older, they are noted to become quite obese from their lazy lifestyle, and the elderly of the enclaves must be assisted by the young.
  • Races: N/A
  • Strengths:
  • Physical Strength: Pandyn are much stronger than the average humanoid, able to lift most sentient humanoids off their feet with ease.
  • Willpower: Also known as stubbornness, the Pandyn will not budge from anything once they have committed to it. They see things through to the end, no matter what must be done.
  • Weaknesses:
  • Lifestyle: The Pandyn have little motivation, and don't do much of anything on their own. They sit, eat, and sleep.
  • Hunger: The Pandyn require a large amount of calories, and must constantly eat throughout their day, or suffer headaches, exhaustion, and general crankiness.
  • Procreation: The Pandyn have a very low sex drive, and hardly procreate. They have long since suffered a population problem, and only have enough young to keep their population steady, never dramatically increasing.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Primarily herbivores, the Pandyn eat anything thats green. Leaves, plants, grasses, roots, all of it. While capable of eating meat, they prefer not to. It has no physical effects upon them, they just think it tastes bad.
  • Communication: Their primary language is 'Pandynian', which is a collection of growls, roars, and barks. While it can be learned by other species, it is difficult to speak by any humanoids, excluding wookies, as the patterns are similar to Shyriiwook. They are capable of speaking Galactic Basic, but the process is very uncomfortable on their throats.
  • Technology level: Primitive
  • Religion/Beliefs: Ancient Pandyn legends teach that the Pandyn come from the stars, and one day, one of their own would ascend to the heavens and unite the Pandyn enclaves under them. This messiah is known as the Star Walker. Otherwise, the Pandyn worship the stars as gods, and preach that the spirits of dead Pandyn ascend to the heavens and become one with the stars.
  • General behavior: The life of a Pandyn is rather simple. They stay within the confines of their enclaves, gather plants to eat, eat them, and sleep. They live a life of ease, only doing work when it's truly necessary. Pandyn warriors are rare, as it is difficult to rally any of them to an actual cause, but once roused, they are noted for ferocity in combat. They hold no advanced technology, and use only simple tools.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The true history of the Pandyn people begins on the world of Baskarn, over 50,000 years ago. Their civilization evolved in that world's lush jungles and rainforests. The Pandyn have always been a peaceful people, and worked together with the native Yrashu for thousands of years. However, tensions between the two peoples rose when the Pandyn began to industrialize. The Yrashu wished to keep the jungles as natural as possible, while the Pandyn had dreams of expanding beyond Baskarn's atmosphere. Once the Pandyn launched into the stars, the Yrashu cut off all contact with the Pandyn civilization, an embargo that lasts to this day.

Once the Pandyn reached space, they dispatched all over the galaxy, establishing enclaves on forested worlds. They enjoyed peace for several millennia, trading with local populations. That was, until the larger galactic community decided that Pandyn fur was a valuable commodity. The peaceful Pandyn were unable to fight off the poachers and hunters that came for them, and their space age ended. One by one, their enclaves fell, and they were presented with only one option: the few remaining Pandyn destroyed their ships and any advanced technology that could be tracked or detected, and retreated deep into the jungles of their planets. Only three enclaves survived this great purge: the Baskarn enclave, the Kashyyk enclave, and the Felucia enclave. In these enclaves, perhaps 300 to 500 Pandyn remain to this day.

For tens of thousands of years since then, the Pandyn have remained in deep isolation, cutting themselves off from the rest of the galaxy to survive, still fearing hunters. The events of the galaxy have hardly affected the Pandyn in their isolation, and whenever someone or something comes knocking, they simply hide in their jungles, and wait for the trouble to pass. The enclaves have not communicated in tens of thousands of years, and each group is unsure if the others survived, and unwilling to find out. The only Pandyn that leave these enclaves are exiles and those captured on foraging duty by slavers or hunters, and every loss is a blow to the Pandyn people.

The Pandyn are dying out, plain and simple. Their isolation saved them in the past, but now it is contributing to their downfall. Their fear of extinction is it's cause, and without outsider interference, it is likely the Pandyn will be completely extinct by the end of the century.

They're still ignoring each other, on Baskarn as well. The isolation is complete, and the Yrashu still hate them for going spacefaring.
