Riserva City

x9sJLDE.jpg
Although there are countless cities, villages, and homesteads scattered about Paecia, all pale in comparison to its beating heart. Known as Riserva City, this shining gem is the pride of the Paecian Empire; yet also serves a rather vital role. As the world is partitioned into quadrants under the leadership of Overlords, the capital city is a rare neutral ground. Here, the most powerful servants of the White Empress gather in order to discuss matters which affect the future of both the planet and the Empire as a whole.

Wrought from the finest architecture and maintained throughout the centuries, Riserva City is a sprawling cityscape that is quite pleasing to the eye. Here, Nature and Mankind live in close proximity; for amongst the domes and skyscrapers are rolling hills and the most vibrant greenery. As Paecia is the pride of its people, every effort was made not to tarnish its natural beauty; and Riserva City is a testiment to this immense care.

Castle Albast
aqDZ3f4.jpg
Long ago, the forefathers of Paecia did not exist as a unified nation. Instead, they battled and warred constantly; each vying for control over the world they called home. In time, a terrifying battle took place in what would eventually become the very center of Riserva City. Thousands upon thousands of lives were extinguished in the fighting, and in the wake of such death a single victor emerged. He, the first Emperor of Paecia, vowed to never again see the blades of his people turned upon each other. As a symbol of this solemn promise, he erected his seat of power upon the very battlefield that had claimed so many lives.

However, what the monarch did not realize was the affect that so much death would have upon his newly erected citadel: for a literal nexus of the Force was born. Its power seeped into the very stones of Castle Albast, tainting its flawless stones of white with a shade of onyx. Despite the shining aesthetic of the capital which surrounds it, Castle Albast has, and will always, exist as a stark contrast. Its blackened stones captivate the eyes whilst the presence of the Dark Side chills to the very core. Castle Albast is a reminder of the bloody history of Paecia and the place where every monarch will come to rest their heads.

.
Force Nexus: As mentioned above, the Dark Side Nexus within Castle Albast came into existence due to a terrifying battle eons ago. The first monarch of the world built his seat of power upon the site of the battle, and from thenceforth it has been characterized and tainted by the presence of the Dark Side.

The Dark Side Nexus has a minor affect. For those who only have momentary contact with it, such as periodic audiences with the Empress, the only affect is noticing a very pronounced presence of the Dark Side. However, for residents of the Castle and those who frequent the throne, namely the Empress, the effect is akin to a slow burn. Over time (a long time), the Nexus will adversely affect the stability of the mind.
Area: Small - The destruction of Castle Albast would see the demise of the Force Nexus.

Intent: The purpose of adding a Force Nexus to the seat of the Imperial Monarch is purely for the sake of plot. I wish to explore the corruptive properties of the Dark Side through following the progression of the White Empress' mental state in response to the Nexus' existence.

Development Thread: If Required

Culture

Paecia, capital of the ancient Paecian Empire, exists as an Imperial Monarchy characterized by a caste system.

At the helm of Paecian Society is the "Noble Caste." This consists of the reigning monarch, an aptly-named Emperor or Empress, and their immediate subordinates. These individuals are the ruling caste of the world and power is distributed in a "pyramid system." The highest of the Noble Caste, being the reigning monarch, affords power and authority to a collection of Ministries. These Ministries are then permitted to control certain aspects vital the world's successful operation; such as Finance, Intelligence, and War.

Beneath these individuals are the "Warrior Caste." Those who fall into this category are either genetically engineered to serve or willingly volunteer for military service. While there are few differences between these persons and those of the "Worker Caste", these individuals are generally regarded with higher esteem. After all, they are the swords of Paecia and are more than willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for their monarch. Lastly, is the "Worker Caste." As the name implies, this caste consists of those who have been born for a particular occupation or demonstrate the skills required for one. These individuals make life in the Paecian Empire possible, and as such they are treated with respect by both the Warrior and Noble Castes alike.

As a whole, the culture of Paecia revolves around loyalty to the whims of the monarch. By his or her command, vast changes can be made to the planet's way of life; and the people are more than willing to comply. For the most part, those who have been genetically-engineered for specific roles have been "programmed" to be more complacent to the commands of the monarchy. Loyalty is all but guaranteed by the masses, especially since the monarchy does not senselessly abuse its subjects. The "policy" of sorts has been that happy or complacent masses are much more manageable than angry hordes.

To this end, daily life is rather comfortable compared to other worlds in the Galaxy. "Standard" amenities are guaranteed the citizens and taxation is not such that it eliminates the possibility of basic living. For the most part, Paecian society functions well due to loyalty to its monarch. All complete their duties according to his or her will and are rewarded with lifestyles free of unnecessary hardship.

Technology

In comparison to the Galaxy at large, Paecia is technologically average. Prior to its near devastation, the world had developed Hyperspace travel and had enough military might to conquer a portion of the Outer Rim Territories. Since adopting policies of isolationism and self-reliance, Paecia has also become quite adept in genetic engineering; going so far as to create a caste of cloned workers to handle the more labor-intensive projects. While some of its methods may be considered archaic, the Gulag Plague has all but leveled the "playing field."

History

During the era of the Old Republic, Paecia was once the capital of an interstellar Empire. Its territory encompassed numerous worlds within the Outer Rim Territories; and for a time, the nation considered this era to be a utopia. However, it was not long before personal ambitions overtook the loyalties of the Paecian Empire's most notable generals. A coup was attempted and those responsible quickly became embroiled in one of the largest civil conflicts in the Empire's history. Countless lives were lost, including that of the reigning Monarch. In the wake of this monumental casualty, the Paecian Empire was exposed to an immense vacuum of power.

One that the surrounding nations were more than happy to take advantage of.

Border skirmishes quickly turned into rapid invasions that overtook the broken Empire. In the end, the once-proud nation was forced to recall its forces back to Paecia in order to weather the harshest of the assaults. As chaos reigned on all fronts, a successor to the throne was hastily chosen and installed. He, inferior to his predecessor in every way, chose to surrender the final holdings of the Empire in order to maintain control of its capital. Seemingly overnight, the once-proud nation was bereft of its lands and pride.

The New Emperor then elected to enact policies of isolationism and self-reliance. Vowing to restore the glory of the Empire, he steered Paecia away from its expansionist practices and pushed for a new direction. His edicts saw a dramatic shift, for the world converted its militant facilities into those dedicated to creating infrastructure. Furthermore, a new work force was eventually created by His command: a caste of genetically engineered clones born to work in specified fields. Engineers, Agriculturalists, and other vital roles were filled by the thousands by this caste.

While Paecia toiled to survive on its own, it intentionally did not interact with the Galaxy at large. Exploratory vessels that stumbled upon the world were either bribed handsomely to "forget" that the planet existed...or were never heard from again. Throughout the History of the Galaxy, Paecia quietly bided its time and awaited an opportunity to reclaim all that it had lost. Now, in the common era, ripples of change are beginning to take place. The isolationist policies have been overturned, focus has been returned to militant productions, and Paecia stands ready to begin anew.

Apologies for the delay in judging. This is an excellent and well thought out submission! Everything appears good except for the Force Nexus. To determine if you need a dev thread, I must ask : how does the Dark Side corrupt things there? As in, minor and subversive or is there something more to it?

It's quite alright, we all have mountains on our plates these days.

Thank you. This sounds like a weak Force Nexus. Please edit what you said above into your nexus information. After that, I feel you would not need a development thread because of the small effects.
