Outdated Hard Hitters (SJO/RA)

The Verpine took in the room with his antenna twitching rapidly, the room had various pods in a neat line running from one end of the room to the other down the middle. A control room was built into the wall from the far side of the entrance, the computers and seats in front of them were surrounded by a plaststeel box usually used to separate offices. The wall to the immediate right of the entrance had what seemed to be school desks set up in neat rows. Each had eight different display screens at an angle raising up from the smooth desk where a portable computer had been set up with a datapad hooked into it. The buttons had been spaced fairly far apart to accommodate the long thing fingers of Verpine.

To the left of the entrance was a large screen taking up most of the wall. Displayed on it was a tactical map of common hyperlane drop out point complete with a buoy, Vindicator Escort Cruiser, and a squadron of twelve TIE fighters. It was a very light force however it clearly was meant to be an initial combat training course. They wouldn't be getting to that for awhile though, first they had to learn the basic systems and how to fly the B-wing. She could be a very unforgiving craft in the hands of the inexperienced and was designed at least partially with Verpine in mind. This was the reason for the near sensory overload he was providing with the numerous screens they'd have to keep track of. Sko wanted them to get used to dealing with how the Starfighter was configured for Verpine pilots before going into the more scaled back humanoid programming.

Moving through the Verpine drone workers and some of the sentient techs putting the finishing touches on the set up he sat down at his own desk that faced the class. They would be coming in soon and he could get this started. He had instructed them to wear their flight suits and bring their helmets. Once they had run through the sim enough for him to consider them ready to fly he'd get them into the squadron of B-wings they'd be using. A mixture of single and duel seats, while the duel was a bit more effective generally the single seats would ensure more fighters in the air at any one time. This was going to be an interesting training session.

Aerena decided that this was the type of class she should attend. She did not have incredible skills a time piloting craft that were made for dogfighting. She was mostly good at evasion and staying off the radar, so the more combat oriented areas of this lesson could be of great use to her.

"Afternoon, I'm here for the bloody flight class. Was a bit of struggle getting here, but it seems as though I arrived in time."

She gave a halfhearted wave to the instructor before planting her ass in the seat nearest the back, immediately switching her focus to her nails as she awaited the arrival of other persons.

When Aryn's presence had been requested at the 'flight school' that was being run to teach pilots the intricacies of the B-Wing, he couldn't help but laugh. As he thought about it, Aryn remembered back to the original reason he had left his home on Eriadu, to attend flight school, instead, he'd got side-tracked, been trapped on Raxus Prime, been a thief, and now he was an accomplished pilot and dogfighter in the Rebellion. It was only after all that had already been achieved, that he was finally attending a flight school. As he wandered the halls of the Rebel Base, BB-3 rolling alongside him, he laughed again at the thought as he moved toward the briefing room.

He was dressed in his flight suit, as usual, the white, jacketed part of it adorned with a simple black symbol of the Rebel Alliance, On his shoulder a patch identifying Aryn as 'Blue Leader' sat, along with a rank identifier immediately below it. The flight suit was worn in, having been used on many a mission both in space, and on the ground.

Turning to his left as he reached the doorway, Aryn stepped inside as it opened up, glancing over to the simulation pods and the technicians working on it, along with the Verpine standing behind the desk at the front. He gave him a brief two-fingered salute as he entered, BB-3 beeping in greeting behind him as Aryn's gaze found the woman within as well, giving her a nod as he moved over to take a seat nearby, waiting for the class to begin.

Arisa was certainly no stranger to piloting but had no experience with the B-wing platform outside of a few sims several years ago. She recalled having a tough time acclimating to the complex controls and avionics system, but then she had only been a novice pilot at the time.

Today she would give it another go, just to familiarize herself with the platform ahead of getting serious commanding RA units in the future. She needed to understand exactly how these things handled to best utilize them in the future.

As requested by Sko, she would appear to the class donning pilot gear, sporting an orange jumpsuit and cradling a helmet under her left arm.

There was small crowd already gathered by the time she arrived, all new faces aside from Sko. In that moment, she was reminded of her first time stepping through the doors of Voss Temple as a Padawan to a sea of strangers. She has made friends with a good deal of them and hoped to the same as tried her hand at being a Rebel.

Maya Zhou stood outside the training facility, dark eyes focused on the door. She bit her bottom lip. This was a good idea, right? The Atrisian woman had been at a crossroads before, but this time felt different. Deep within, she felt it was time to make a change. There had been talk of a rebel movement forming; she’d heard whispers here and there.

And now, here she was.

The woman could fly a craft; she’d grown up on ships. But the types of vessels she flew were more akin to flying bricks. Her own ship, the Gongju was one example. It offered all sorts of space for cargo, but very little in the way of maneuverability and speed. Flying a Starfighter would be a new experience, and she was sure that it would take some getting used to.

Drawing in a deep breath, she finally walked inside. She gave her leather jacket a firm tug, and scanned the room as she entered. Desks, screens, students – it really was a classroom. For some reason, this summoned a good amount of dread. Maya never had been much of a fan of schooling, but she supposed that it was necessary. After a brief moment of sizing up the other students, she moved towards a seat and waited for their instructor to begin.

Adjusting a few options on his datapad he looked up and nodded back to Arisa. "Now that most of us are here please take a seat and start up your consoles, you will find a complete representation of the cockpit. I want you to memorize everything that is labelled. With how we have the Starfighters set up today you are going to have to operate nearly everything off of memory. To start us off I am going to run you through some useful features of this craft. First with it's very narrow body a head on attack makes the fighter hard to see since it tends to blend in with the starfield, in addition it makes it extremely hard to hit. Most systems target the center of the craft meaning that the chance of you being hit are quite low. It's also partly why the cockpit Is so high up. Makes it a lot safer for the pilot. Under the conditions when these were first designed the pilots were far more valuable than their craft in a lot of cases."

Adjusting his datapad he pulled up the design plans on their upper screens moving the cockpit down to the bottom. This was quite a good set up he’d designed. “Now if you’ll see this is a very heavily armed craft. With a few passes the ion cannons and lasers can strip most capital ships of their shields. Once down you can use the torpedos to quickly destroy the craft by striking weak points. In addition the targeting computer can target up to six different targets. If you are out numbered I highly suggest using your torpedoes or missiles to take out multiple targets at once. You can also set these to explode in the middle of formations, while slightly less effective against shielded craft you can seriously damage non-shielded like TIE fighters. Slayn & Korpil has been upgrading our craft to keep them fairly up to date. However they are still fairly slow and I highly suggest using your firepower to overwhelm enemies. Is there any questions so far?”
