Designed in conjunction with the Outback X-wing, this Y-wing variant was made to complement it like the Rebel squadrons of old. Extra systems were added to help the ship stand out from the other countless modernizations and to add to its ease of use and flexibility. Systems like the slam drive to get into combat quicker or the terrain following sensor to help pilots skim over the ground to a target while staying below enemy sensors. A stand-alone navigation computer was added to remove the dependence on astromech droids but the option to use one was left for those desiring the miniature mechanics. Likewise, the turret can be suborned to the auto fire-controller returning the flexibility of having a rear gunner to solo pilots.
As always, considerable care was given to ensure smooth operation in a wide range of environments from sandy deserts to frozen tundras with minimal adjustment. Repair and maintenance were also simplified as much as possible allowing for easy modification and part-swapping during a supply scarcity. Simply put, ORR knew these would be used and abused and built them to last on the frontier long after other ships had given up the ghost.
