- Unique OT-42 engine configuration
- Extremely fast and maneuverable, thanks to the OT-42 engine unit
- Resilient for a civilian starship
- Small interior space, mostly used as cargo hold, makes the vessel unsuitable for lengthy voyages
- Being a civilian starship, it has no weapons, forcing the pilot to rely on its defenses and speed in order to evade pursuers
The Endeavor is the first starship to come out of the OT-42 Eidolon Series assembly line.
When CorelliSpace set out to create a strong contender for the faster and most agile light freighter, the result was the OT-42 Eidolon series. The OT-42 series gains its name by the hallmark engine unit, that combines the fast omni-directional thrusting of specialized propelling nozzles for thrust vector control, with the pervasive Girodyne SRB42 Sublight Engine. In order to achieve a leaner profile that could both house the wide SRB42's exhaust nacelle, and not get in the way of the omni-directional ion thrusters, the OT-42 employs a rotating wing system.
The starship's wings remain horizontal while landing or for atmospheric drifts, and rotates 90 degrees along the vessel's longitudinal axis (roll axis), into a vertical position. Therefore, from horizontal to vertical shift, the ventral side of the wingspan becomes port-side, while the dorsal side shifts to starboard. This fin configuration allows total directional freedom to the ion thrusters, while still maintaining optimal performance for the SRB master engine. The latter, also comes installed with a SubLight Acceleration Motor (SLAM) override for boost control, capable of doubling the starship sublight speed. The dangers of rapid acceleration and increased velocity, are greatly attenuated by the formerly mentioned ancillary thrusters which provide, not only considerable maneuverability, but faster deceleration and total reversal of flight direction.
The coupled engines are so successful at achieving great speeds and mobility, that denser and stronger alloys could be applied in the construction of the ship's fuselage, hull, and plating. Allowing the Eidolon Series to be both swift and sturdy starships.
Furthermore, the Eidolon comes with two types of deflector shields, one generator installed on each wing, as well as a top-of-the-line hyperdrive engine. The aforementioned SLAM system operates by redirecting power from the deflector shields, either one or both at the same time. As such, being a very fast and resilient light freighter, the Eidolon Endeavor Light Freighter Transit - or L.F.T. - is a solid choice for short to medium distance hauls. This is due to the reserved space required for wingspan rotation and thrust vectoring, that leaves less serviceable area for cabin and cargo space. Consequently, the majority of the ship's habitable interior is wide open, leaving no room for sleeping or living quarters.
Being a civilian starship, it has no armaments. As the saying goes, 'if they don't have a lock on you, hit the SLAM and gain enough distance until you jump to hyperspace'.
