Intent: To make something of a B-Wing analog to the X-Wing for the Protectorate
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Corellian Engineering Corporation
Model: OS-G3 Paladin
Affiliation: Omega Protectorate/Omega Pyre
Modularity: No
Production: Minor
Material: Durasteel-Titanium (Hull Plating), Quadanium (Frame), Glasteel (Viewports)
Description: While the Wasp-class surpassed all expectations the Protectorate military had of the craft, its high production costs meant only the elite of the elite starfighter aces would ever fly one. So a contract was drafted, asking CEC to develop a more economical starfighter. Obliging, the Wasp-class was used as a basis for the new fighter. Rather than continue the naming scheme, as the new fighter would be sold exclusively to the Protectorate, the new craft was named the OS-G3 Paladin.

The first, and largest change to the fighter is the lack of any OmniPod tech. While such an innovation made the Wasp-class versatile and deadly, its ever-shifting profile required pilots with a very broad array of weapon skills, compounding an already complex craft with further requirements, as well as made the craft expensive to produce. The OS-G3 has constant armament allowing pilots to train in simulations to get a feel for the crafts performance, which is also constant as a result, and has a much more reasonable production cost.

Following the same general shape of the Wasp, the Paladin has two heavy ion cannons on either horizontal wingtip with the vertical wingtip housing a repeating laser cannon. Two MESG-1 torpedo launchers are housed in the central body of the starfighter on either side of the cockpit. These special torpedoes afford the craft a second option to ion cannon barrages, allowing it to engage fast, agile crafts with a high degree of success. Armed with a heavy deflector shield, the Paladin is a fierce-some fighter.

Another unique feature of the Paladin is a new reaction control system. This new system is designed to rapidly reorient the fighter in conjuncture with controlled engine burns. While no more faster than your average starfighter, this does allow the fighter an impressive acrobatic capacity usually reserved for interceptors. However, a stray hit to a nearby thruster could send the fighter careening out of control, so caution is always advised.

Carrying the Paladin is a difficult task. Its vertical orientation makes landing unaided an impossibility. Special storage racks must be installed on a ship to hold the fighters. While this ensures that they can be carried into battle, they do not lend themselves to being loaded quickly, so combat recover is tedious. As well the vertical nature of the fighter poses a challenge for new pilots, so only experienced ones can be recruited to try and fly the Paladin.
