Restricted Missions: N/A
Primary Source: N/A

Production Information:
Manufacturer: Obsidian Star Technologies
Model: OS-106
Affiliation: Obsidian Star Technologies, Closed-Market
Modularity: Yes, designed to work in conjunction with OS-107 “Hermes” Scanning Drones (still in development) for greater area affect.
Production: Minor
Material: Transparisteel, circuitry, scanning components, micro-power cell.

Special Features:

· The OS-106 “Oracle” Portable Head-up Display and scanning device, is a miniaturized piece of technology based on the battle scanner housed with the helmet unit of the OS-103 “Whisper” Body Armor. It provides the following features:

o Ability to scan the area within a 50 meter radius of the wearer’s position for unmasked life-signs, unshielded power signatures/weapons systems and radiation
o Ability to switch between night-vision and infrared/thermal vision, as well as the ability to increase and decrease the tint to filter out regular light
o Ability to zoom in on a specific area with the maximum magnification that equals a basic pair of macro-binoculars
o Ability to mark beings with identification tags (e.g. Hostile, friendly, intentions unknown, as well as specific identification such as the person’s name and affiliation.)
o Ability to connect wirelessly to the local Holonet terminal and to run information searches there
o Basic and encrypted comlink with built in vox modulator
o The device is controlled using subtle eye and facial movements, which while effective once learned, can be very difficult to master.

Strengths:

· Portable: The OS-106 provides the user with a small, lightweight scanning device that is worn over the eyes.
· Versatile: The OS-106 provides the user with a variety of scanning and detection features, the ability to mark targets/friendlies, an encrypted comlink, as well as the ability to access the Holonet

Weaknesses:

· Limited range: The OS-106’s features can only operate within a 50 meter radius of the wearer’s location though they can be extended using “Hermes” Scanning drones, which can be controlled using the Oracle’s eye/face interface
· Difficult to use: The OS-106 is controlled using a subtle series of facial and eye movement commands, based loosely on the Lorrdian non-verbal language known as “Kinetic.” For non-Lorrdians, this device has proven to be difficult to master as even the slightest mistake can cause the device to enact incorrect protocols. Once mastered, however, users have stated that the device’s command interface is very intuitive.
· Low-Power Scanning: The device uses low power, passive scans that, in addition to limited the range, make it very difficult for it to break through electronic countermeasures. The vast majority of modern jamming technology will render this device completely ineffective.

Description:
The OS-106 “Oracle” Portable HUD/Scanning Device was designed with the knowledge that in any given situation, knowledge is power. The small, lightweight device is designed to fit over the eyes of most humanoid species. It provides the user with the ability to scan the immediate area (50m) for unmasked life signs, unshielded power signatures and weapons systems as well as the ability to toggle between normal light vision, low-light vision, night-vision and infrared/thermal vision. In addition, the user can zoom in and out, mark beings with HUD tags, connect wirelessly to local Holonet networks. Users can also make use of a basic and encrypted comlink with built in vox modulator. The device is controlled using a series of subtle eye and facial movements, which while very effective once learned has been proven difficult to master. The device is also able to have its range extended using Obsidian Star’s OS-107 “Hermes” scanning drones.
