- A Terror Looms: The Orthanc is armed and armored to the teeth, and is perfectly capable of threatening most vessels its size.
- Game Over, Man!: The Orthanc's brawn is only matched by its speed, designed to seize cargo and get out before retaliation can be brought about.
- Make It Stick: The Orthanc possesses only holoshielding, and may not be able to stand up long to sustained fire.
A bizarre light war vessel, the Orthanc is constructed exclusively for the use of the Dreadbound Covenant, at the commission of Darth Nefaron.
The Orthanc blurs the line between a frigate and a corvette, being small and quick but also overgunned for its weight class, and created in great numbers. Despite this, these ships have rapidly earned a dire reputation, in no small part due to their association with the Corpse Lord's "aggressive recruiting" practices. Officially, the Orthanc is designated as a "Boarding Frigate" with a stated purpose of enforcing customs law within Sith space. Unofficially, its expansive cargo holds tell another story entirely.
Under normal circumstances, these vessels either travel in sizeable flotillas, or appear escorting a larger vessel. In either case, their methods are the same: that of close-ranged skirmish.
The Orthanc is designed to operate best in a "wolfpack" capacity, harassing larger ships and swiftly flaying away their shields and armor, while proving frustratingly difficult to hit in return. As such, they typically fight at what most naval tacticians consider "hugging range." Despite their emphasis on non-lethal capture, the Orthanc maintains significant firepower relative to its weight class, and is more than capable of threatening most other vessels, particularly in numbers.
Their primary armaments excel at dropping shields and disabling vessels, at which time the Orthanc reveals its true purpose. Unfurling from concealed compartments along the frigate's port and starboard wings, a wriggling nest of boarding tendrils extend to snatch away crews and leave only haunted wrecks in their wake.
Their cargo capacity is such as to allow even a single Orthanc to empty out much larger vessels, given time. When one comes across a drifting but mostly-intact derelict, or even a fleet of them, it's a sure sign that Anoat's slave pits are hungry.
