Operation Sandstorm

Fires burned across the face of Doldur. The Capital city was ablaze, and there were none who could quench it. The people ran in fear, evacuating as terrorists took control of the capital building. Soon the defenses of the planet became their own defenses. The local security forces tried to establish control, but were quickly defeated by the organized, and well armed group. Panic over took the planet, and they called to the Confederacy for help, and the might of the Southern Systems was quick to answer their pleas.

High above the planet, the Angelic Fury and her escorts exited hyperspace. The massive durasteel doors opened, and inside pilots scrambled to their transports, bombers and fighters. Clones, droids, and vehicles were loaded into the larger transports, as fighters launched into space around the ship. Bombers soon began patrol runs around the small convoy, before the ship pointed its nose directly at the planet.

Warning klaxons went off and the last of the commandos were loaded into the orbital drop pods, and the pods loaded into the hanger mass catapults. Larger pods held the Gorgon assault speeders, and droids ready for the mission. A loud voice echoed through the hanger. “Trill-Minus thirty seconds to drop pod launch. Ground has cleared civilians from active zone, landing targets acquired.”

Suddenly, the pods were accelerated by the catapults, and launched at enormous speeds at the planet, with precision strikes. The boom echoed through the hanger as pod after pod was launched. They entered the atmosphere shortly after. Pods shook, and flamed across the sky, lighting up the night like meteors ready to piece the heart of the planet.

One after another, into two groups, the pods landed, embedding themselves into Duracrete streets, or once-beautiful parks. One group landed near an apartment complex, the other near an open air bazaar. Yet, the devastation was only just beginning. The Dauntless had arrived. They were the First and the Last, the Alphas, and the Omegas. They held the line against all threats to the CIS internal and external. Against all who rose up against the Southern Systems, they were the answer. The Reckoning.

Objective: Retake the City.

Claustrophobia. It’s official definition is extreme or irrational fear of confined places. Confined spaces could be anything, really. A small room, a shuttle, even a small space with lots of people. And the fear effected a lot of people. So it wasn’t unheard of to know someone that has the fear, or even be that kind of person with the fear yourself.

Not that Luna suffered from that sort of fear. Get strapped into enough shuttles and drop pods, coincidently what she was being strapped into at the moment, and one would either get over their fear or die of stress and exhaustion. It couldn’t help but bug the back of her mind however that there was probably at least a few commandos who were experiencing those pins and needles of fear.

Luna couldn’t help but mentally shrug to herself at this. Whether or not they were feeling somewhat fearful wasn’t a problem necessarily. What would be a problem is if their fear and emotions overruled their rational minds once those pods slammed into the ground, and shrak metaphorically hit the fan. Nothing ever ended well when emotions were more powerful than the mind. And it was up those men and women strapped into the pod next to her, or strapped into the other pods around her, to keep their minds focused on the objective.

It wasn’t like they would be dropping into friendly territory to have a picnic, after all.

No, Dauntless commandos were going to be shot in drop pods into the middle of a city on fire. Dissidents, rebels, terrorists, whatever one thought to call them, had taken over a key government building while also spreading through the capital city like a plague. It could take days, even weeks, to clear out the entire city if they sieged it in a normal manner. So instead, the leadership of Dauntless decided to do something..rash.

Shoot drop pods into the crowded city landscape, hope enough people survived the flight down, and then fight their way to the key building and take it down. Of course, they would get reinforcements after the two teams destroyed or took control over the AA towers, but it would still be a dangerous, and extremely slim chance of succeeding.

Not that a slim chance of succeeding wasn’t something that the Dauntless didn’t expect on a normal basis.

The last commando was strapped into the pod by the flight engineers, and the door was closed tight with a hiss of the last bits of escaping air being forced out, sealing the soldiers into their metaphorical bullet. For a few moments, at least in Luna’s pod, there was nothing but the harsh breathing of commando’s through their helmets, everyone doing their best to settle any nerves that they might have.

The commander of these men knew that either somewhere in her pod, or in the other pods of team alpha, were her specific teammates once they hit the ground, though she couldn’t see where they were in relation to her in the extremely dim, red light that coated the inside of the pod. She would just have to link up with them on the ground, or at least, they would probably comm her if they needed anything.

Those thoughts were put on hold momentarily as she felt the entire pod begin to move, shifting as it was lifted into position to be fired at the planet. The calculations on where to aim, while also accounting for gravity and wind, to hit a target was beyond the commander, though she did know that the remote pilots had some measure of control on the pods once they were fired. That didn’t mean the process of aiming the pods themselves wasn’t any less tough or extreme, however.

A monotone, droning countdown could be heard coming over the loudspeaker in the pod, counting down from 10…9…8…

Luna cracked her knuckles, trying to relieve some of the pent up stress and tension in her joints. This mission had been a long time coming, the Dauntless’s first mission on the galactic stage to show everyone what they could do.

7….6….5….4…..

She glanced around the pod momentarily, smiling to herself. These men were ready, Ready to take back what was rightfully the planetary governments.

3….

They were ready..

2….

Ready to be…

1….

The front line.

Boom.

All she could do in this moment was breathe. Her heart was ecstatic as the pods fell towards the planet below them. Her grip tightened on her issued sniper rifle, if she had it her way she would've brought her own, but it was the military, at least the weapons had to be uniform. She practically attacked one of the generals when he told her that her uniform had to be within the same regulations as the others, she at least won that fight. She glanced around the pod looking at the rest of her team and then her eyes fell on her commander for this mission. She was in safe hands.

She knew it would be chaos down on the surface, and she knew once she landed that she would be in the middle of chaos, her least favorite position. She hoped her commander would send her as lookout and keep the team protected from a distance, she wasn't good at hand-to-hand, but sighing, she knew whatever her commander told her, she would follow without question. She played with the safety clip absently as she felt turbulence hit the pod as they hit the atmosphere and that's when she felt the speed pick up.

"poodoo." she muttered. Clicking the safety back on she looked at her team around her, she could sense how ready her comrades were and all she could do in that moment was just smile, she was ready to take this planet back.

White armor was a funny thing. Allya was so used to dressing in black, reds, purples and the like, like any true edgy teenage Sith should. However, as she sat there, next to her brothers and sisters in arms, dressed in armor very similar to their own, with the same coloration and patterns, crests, it made her honestly feel part of this group. She had never felt like this before in her short life. Sure, her armor was still perhaps the most technologically advanced and most protective of any of the Dauntless, as it was simply a reskinned version of her Beskar. However, she had never been more proud of herself than right now, strapped into the pod, ready to kick ass. The Mandalorian Sith had been born for war, and greatness. However, she would do both, fighting at the sides of the men, women and other denominations that fought for their lives. Not above, not below, but equal.

They had already said everything they needed to, went over the briefing, the numbers, her Corporal had shown her a good luck fist bump, as he called it. She often forgot that the clones had more of a childhood than she had. “Angelic Fury, enter command mode, begin transmitting data.” The girl called across the comms, right before launch.

“Understood Adjudant, command mode is being established. Good hunting.” When onboard the ship, Allya was the Captain. However, her acting Captain, was a wise older woman, with decades of experience commanding vessels, she knew what she was doing. Since the Commander and Adjudant were both going ground side, that put her in charge. Allya put in her mouth guard, before she told the others to do the same, then pulled her helmet fully on, and it locked down into place. It felt like forever, but the count down began. “Check restraints!” Her voice was slightly more muffled, by the mouth guard, but not by a lot. The lot of them pulled on the restraints, and checked to make sure they couldn't move around.

10....

9....

8....

“Oh hurry up”, she thought to herself. While Jerek was helping to teach her patience, it was a hard lesson to learn. She really needed to go to some of the Jedi training, and see if they could help her with it or not. Before she knew it, the timer ran down to 1, and the ship exploded out of the catapult. The force of it all was intense, and the girl's teeth clenched down onto the mouth guard, as even through the inertial dampeners, the G-forces were intense.

As the pod hit atmosphere and the fire engulfed it, it began to shake and bounce across the sky. It wasn't long after, that a handful of laser fire from the anti-air guns tried to desperately target the fast moving targets. However, it was no good, the algorithms were not meant for targeting something this small at this speed. Aimed at the park the pod flew true towards it goal. Against the shaking and roar of the engines, Allya shouted out. “BRACE FOR IMPACT!” Right before ground fall, massive air bags deployed in the interior, making it harder to move, but giving cushioning.

The impact felt like everything should have been thrown from the craft, that they should have died during it. However, the specially designed pod held. It crumpled where it needed, its shielding and inertial dampeners holding back the rest. The dirt and dust flew around them, then settled back down around the craft. Right after, the airbags deflated, and the restraint locks came undone. Teeth were gritted once more and Allya forced her way out of the restraints and pressed the pod door button. It blew the hinges, and the door fell open. “Corporal, help everyone out of the pod.” She exited into the night and she initiated her suit's internal systems. HUD came up, and her suit connected to the Angelic Fury and the droids that had landed in the pods scattered in the park. Lightsaber and her trusty blaster, the Songbird, came out. The red blade swatted the air, bolts were deflected back at their origins. Songbird came up, and fired. Her aim was true, and the handful of rebels in the area, trying to investigate the crash were killed. One by one, the pod doors opened and her troops came out. Droids, clones, and commandos. Clicking her comm on. “Everyone! Two minutes till we push forward! Get your gear, get ready, we have to move fast. They are already onto us!”

Ever since their first mission, Pei had felt a sense of comradere with his commander. Both were survivors, they had seen things, done things, had to over come things. Sometimes those things made you proud, other times, they haunted your dreams. But they had to be done none the less. Luna understood that, and it made it easy to follow her into battle. He was fully kitted out, explosives, sniper rifle, blaster pistol, slicer kit, comm unit, medical kit. It was heavy, but it always was. It's why he trained in full gear, when it came time for the real thing, it was nothing out of the ordinary.

He was strapped into the pod, and practice breathing exercises. Just simple meditation. Keep your heart rate down, push back the fear, and anxiety of the coming battle, don't think of how you would get to the planet. Just stay focused. The little Adjudant was leading the secondary group. He wished he could watch over the kid, but, she knew what she was doing. The girl was a Mandalorian, and like him and Luna had seen and done things. She would be fine, he knew it. But there was still this concern. Wasn't the reason he fought to make it so the kids didn't have to? True, her case was unique, but still. Ah well, better to not think on it.

It wasn't like he had a house, or a family to return to, it wasn't like anyone in the galaxy would honestly miss him if he was gone. It kept things much more simple, honestly. All he had to do was look forward, protect his fellows, and get the mission done. If he made it back, great. If not, oh well. It's not like he would be around to worry about it.

Finally, the pod lurched into action. It felt like an amusement park ride, that downward sweep where your brain felt like it was trying to escape out the back. Fun times. Gloved hands held onto the hand rests, and squeezed it tightly. Soon, they would be on the ground, and ready to fight.

Stumbling out of the pod, Lis'Ra turned on her helmet and she instantly was connected to Allya's comms. She heard her commander bark orders to them about preparing for the fight ahead and Lis'Ra took a shaky breath looking at her team. Looking around, she began looking for high-points, places of seclusion, places hard to reach, a place only she could reach. Glancing back she adjusted her gun and waited for her commander to start giving out orders. The smile had never left her lips, she was ready for a fight.

Iapo felt the impact of her drop pod crashing as a rattling deep in her bone. One instant she felt disoriented, her ears were ringing and the ridge of her brand new armor had pressed against her ribs and stolen her breath. Then she heard the low ‘clung’ of a slug hitting the hull of the pod and that forced her back into the reality of the situation. She rolled around until she saw outside. The crash had forced the hull open on one side and through the crack she saw the bright light of blaster fire in the night.

They had to act quick. She rolled out from under the opening making sure to be out of the line of fire and took stock of her condition. Her body was aching in some places but nothing that hinted at an injury which could seriously hinder her. Instinctively her hand went to her right leg where her newest pistol was still safely tucked into the holster. Iapo checked the ammo pouch (still sealed), the smaller pouch with sulfur was still closed and readily accessible on her left hip and her secondary blaster at her back. Devaronian could use sulfur to enhance speed and strength for short periods of time if they absolutely needed it but Iapo hoped it wouldn’t come to that.
Next, she turned around and tried to locate the other fighters of her team. She quickly noticed the white silhouette of her commander somewhere on her left, recognized the jagged edges of her armor design.
She nodded towards her and activated her comm device:
Awaiting orders, commander”.
Then she forced herself to stillness. Her heart was beating quick but she slowed her breathing until she was once more entirely concentrated onto her task. The one glance she'd gotten from the surroundings showed shadowed apartment buildings and further away: the chaos of combat. Everywhere, nooks and crannies in which a skilled fighter could hide and attack them when they did not expect it. The night in the city seemed to offer their opponents endless opportunities to hide. But then again, so could they, and to win they only had to be the first to get the jump on their enemy.

Before the young soldier knew it he his team's pod was turned into a high velocity projectile towards the planet's capital. Rato didn't think much about it. He mind going blank as the pod rattled around him. Before he knew it the restraints came undone and the pod doors were opened as a narrow gateway to the battlefield. From what he knew, urban combat wasn't pretty, and as a medic, he was probably gonna see just how ugly things could get.

Grabbing his hear and connecting to the comms he heard the child soldier, Allya, giving off orders. Still a little dizzy Rato stumbled out of the pod and into the capital. It was like he was teleported, one second he's on a ship, the next his in the middle of urban warfare. This was his first mission as a soldier in the Dauntless Trooper, he wasn't in basic anymore, he was in the thick of it now. Holding his own blaster rifle he came out with the rest of his comrades to secure the drop area for his team.

With all his gear ready he was gonna help whoever else needed to get there and make sure no one was injured. Drop pods were still a pretty messy ordeal. "Copy that." He replied to the commander, know that in only two minutes they'd be heading to their objectives.

The continual shaking of the drop-pod signaled to the group that they were beginning to break through the atmosphere. Some soldiers took the time to grip their chairs tightly, as they looked like they might be trying to fight back some semblance of flight sickness. Luna hoped they would be able to hold it back, for their sake. Sickness in their masks would be something they wouldn’t be able to wash out until after the mission, and it surely wouldn’t smell well.

The commander wasn’t having too much trouble fighting off any sort of sickness during their flight down, and thankfully any stomach trouble she might have had was quickly quelled as the shaking seemed to stop. That meant that the pod had broken through the rougher part of the atmosphere, and would be hitting the ground very-

BANG.

Soon. Very soon.

It seemed like everyone was alright. Hearing the moans of the podmates was good, really. It meant they were alive at least. Or only minorly injured. Luna did a quick check of all her bodily functions, making sure she could move everything, before quickly pulling the safety straps across her body off, freeing her from the seat. As she was doing so, a couple of other commandos had done the same, and were currently kicking the stuck door free. A couple of hard kicks lead to the door flying off with a loud bang as it hit the ground.

It only took a few moments for the rest of the commandos to pour out of the pod, creating a perimeter in around the crashed aircraft. The group seemed to be in a small courtyard, with the opening leading out towards the larger street. The other droppod, containing the rest of the squads of team alpha, including one of her higher ranking lieutenants, Pei Ven, hadn’t landed in the courtyard, and in the night sky, there was no telling where smoke could be coming from.

Luna slowly crouchwalked to the front of the squad, giving the CO of the squad a quick pat on the shoulder. “Sitrep. Make sure everyone is ready to move forward in 3 minutes. I’m going to try and make contact with Ven.” He gave a quick nod, turning to give out the orders to the rest of the people in the squad. The commander turned to follow him momentarily, and saw the unmistakable form of the newest recruit to their group, Iapo Sim, and gave her a quick nod of reassurance. The CO would make sure she was personally ok, but Luna didn’t have the time to do so. The shiny would be able to hold her own.

Taking the time to move to a corner of the small courtyard, Luna began tapping the side of her helmet which contained her comm unit, and tried to key in Pei. “Alpha 1, Alpha 1, trying to comm in Alpha 2. I need a sitrep Alpha 2.” On the other side of the line, at least for now, was silence. Pei would get into contact with her when possible, she assumed. That’s how she would have handled the situation. “Alpha 1 and squad is moving toward the apartment complex. Give a sitrep when possible. Alpha 1 is ETA 8 minutes from apartment complex.”

Dauntless’s commander then turned, looking to the CO and getting a nod of approval. It seemed as though everyone was ok. That was good, not having any injures from the crash of the pod was not unusual, but welcome. Luna gave a quick nod to the command officer, before making a motion that she wanted the group to split up, to walk along the sidewalks of the street, close to the buildings. It would give the group cover on their way to apartment complex.

With plan in place, the commander of the group made the motion to move out, with Luna leading one group out of the courtyard, and onto the right sidewalk, and the CO leading the other group. Luna knew that Iapo was in her group, something she was thankful for, knowing the woman would be nervous for her first op.

Once the group got to the apartment complex, hoping meeting up with Alpha 2, and the blaster fire started, all that nervousness would go right out the door. Hopefully.

Iapo was waiting with the other Dauntless for the group leaders to exchange information and the young woman was forcing herself to keep calm. There was a distinct kind of pressure in knowing that she was the newest recruit in the group and that inevitably her performance would be gauged. This came in addition with the more familiar pent-up agitation from the upcoming battle. The CO turned towards the troops and announced their next objective: advance towards the apartment building to join up with alpha 2. She’d be with commander Terrik.

Standing among the rest of the alpha team Iapo felt the tense excitement of the sentients around her crank up a notch at the announcement. The feeling was infectious. Iapo let out a long breath, relaxed the tense muscles of her shoulders and looked ahead forcing the eagerness back.
The moment the commander indicated to head out she finally had the operation to concentrate on: all of the stress fell away and she left the drop pod, weapon trained on possible threats.
Her attention was divided between the other sentients of her squad and her surroundings. They were running along a series of small buildings, sheds or some kinds of cabins. The ground was even beneath her feet and they were relatively protected by the walls to their right. They emerged onto an open court and Iapo immediately felt a lot more vulnerable out in the open and without cover. Her eyes flitted from one building to another, scrutinizing the barely discernable windows where attackers may hide.

The atmosphere was tense, being spotted so early on in their operation would jeopardize the whole mission and significantly decrease their chances of bringing down these AA towers without sustaining massive amounts of casualties. The group was moving quickly but silently, the sound of their steps on the sandy ground barely noticeable, their weapon trained forward or on the possible sniper spots in the buildings ahead of them. They finally reached the first taller buildings with apartments and quickly the operatives ducked behind walls and disappeared in the shadows.
Iapo ducked behind a low concrete wall and looked back at the open stretch of vacant lot they’d just moved across.
It seemed that they had managed to remain undetected for now...

Post: #3

The streets were extremely quiet, which wasn’t out of the question for it being this late at night. The only light illuminating the streets came from the streetlambs dim bulbs. With how the commandos traveled up the street, hugging against the buildings, the light barely reached or touched them, concealing the group to the shadows. Even the clacking of armor or boots hitting the cobblestone was muffled as they quietly made their way through the streets, rapidly approaching the tallest building in the nearby block, which was quickly assumed to be the apartment complex.

It wasn’t long until the squads made their way into the large courtyard in front of the tall apartment building. The water fountain in the middle splashed lightly as the water streamed down the complex marble architecture. But other than the structure, there was very few areas of cover, and the whole area felt very open. Open enough that all it took was a look to realize that they were the first squad in the courtyard, meaning that Pei’s group still hadn’t made it.

The fact they only had two squads at the moment was disconcerting, but it wasn’t something she had time to dwell on. Making a few hand motions, she moved to make sure everyone spread out and took cover where they could. Many were huddled together near the fountain, others used wood benches. Luna frowned at this, but for the moment it didn’t matter. Her first concern was to try and get in contact with Alpha 2 and Pei, find out where they were.

That moment passed quickly as the first blaster bolts bit into the ground around her with a ferocity it caused her to stumble back, quickly finding cover behind one of the few benches left. It wasn’t an isolated bolt, as streams of red blaster bolts suddenly exploded down toward them from the tall building to their north, cutting down Dauntless who were in flimsy cover before they had a chance to run. “Find something solid to get behind, now!!” She broke the radio silence, just as the doors to the apartment complex kicked open and mercenaries streamed out, their own blasters firing toward the group with deadly accuracy.

It didn’t take long for the Dauntless squads to begin to fire back, trying to bottleneck the mercenaries in the apartment doorways, but failing to do so because of the combination of their manpower and the constant stream of blaster bolts from an heavy blaster emplacement somewhere up the tower. Two blaster emplacements, that Luna could see.

Quickly Luna slid back behind the bench, quickly opening up her communicator to all channels, putting out a general order. “All squads, all squads. They know we’re here. Be prepared for ambushes. Alpha one is currently held down in the courtyard south of the apartment complex.” Pausing for a moment to stand, fire a few bolts across the courtyard, leaving a few mercenaries moaning on their backs with fresh holes in their chests, she knelt back down to continue. “Do not stop! Push through to the meeting point. We have to get there so our third team has somewhere to land!”

With that, the redhead shut off her communicator and began to motion the troopers to her right and left forward, trying to mount a counter offensive to the onslaught. From her belt, she grabbed a long grenade like cylinder, tossing it toward the front, north side of the courtyard. After a moment, it popped, and a large amount of grey smoke began spreading toward the sky and obscuring the vision of the heavy blaster nests. “I need people in that building, clearing out those blaster nests, now!” Luna had pushed up to the middle of the courtyard at this point, crouching behind the fountain. She would cover anyone willing to move forward into the building. If she had to, she would move herself, but she wanted to be outside in case Pei and his squad showed up at this point, which would be awfully convenient.

Kelsie had been looking forward to a quiet day on Doldur. She'd gone shopping -- shopping! -- and this time it wasn't for military-grade impact grenades. Now, she mildly wished she had been stocking up on weapons.

Not that her Enforcer slugthrower pistol, HL-27, set of Saijo Tek'lah blades and souped-up holdout blaster were inadequate. Against heavily armed mercenaries, she'd do fine. But protecting civilians, too? This wasn't normally part of her job.

She'd heard the blaster fire from inside the mall, heard the screams of those goddamn overprotective mothers. She hadn't been like that with James... and who brings their kids out shopping, anyways? If she'd had parents, she wouldn't want to go out with them to look at clothes. What a boring idea. The rebels -- whoever they were -- had for the most part avoided it. It wasn't exactly an important building, but as always there was that one little squad of hotshots who wanted to terrorize a few kids, scare the populace even more than they already were. Kelsie didn't like people like that, neither did her Enforcer.

Leading a mass amount of civilians to a safe area would be difficult on her own, especially since she didn't know where a safe area would be. Fortunately a pair of off-duty Planetary Defense Forces troopers had been among the civies, freeing up Kelsie to clear and scout the path ahead of them. Unfortunately, that path led them to the apartment complex.

The one-woman army ghosted her way to the wall of the apartment complex the rebels were holed up in. Seemed like some sort of force had gotten dirtside and were engaging the enemy, meaning that it probably was safe enough to pass through for the civilians behind her while they were distracted -- but for how long? It wasn't going to last, she knew, especially if the rebels' opponents were a rag-tag group of PDF troopers. She'd have to make a difference.

A quick pair of motions signaled to the larger group to wait. One of the small girls standing at the front watched as her new idol practically flew up the wall of the building, bouncing nimbly from windowsill to windowsill until she reached the corner of the building, looking down at the shooters on the ground. Apparently not some rag-tag group of PDF troopers. Fully armed and equipped soldiers, with damn good aim -- she counted almost four of the mercenaries drop and not move again after bolts flew from the other side.

What caught her attention was the consistent rat tat tat of the blaster emplacements in the building, along with the longer sound of sniper rifles squealing with each shot. Still silent, she stuck to the ledge, quietly memorizing the rough positions of each and calculating the best route to take them all out efficiently. Wasting time wasn't something that Kelsie liked to do, especially with lives at stake. Sometimes she cursed herself for taking her mentor's lessons to heart and being such a 'good person'. Slipping out of the city would've been a breeze for her... but this was much more exciting. It was time for her to flex her skills a little.

A few moments later she smoothly slipped inside the second to top floor and drifted along. The snipers at the other end of the hall were obviously amateurs, their barrels were hanging out of the window. At least she'd picked the right attire for the occasion, her black leather jacket and dark jeans concealed her nicely against the shadows on the wall, along with her simple black cap. She flicked her wrists, the songsteel knives glinting in the light of the blaster fire, before they went dark with the blood of those poor amateurs. Unfortunately, they dropped their rifles out the window as they died -- right in front of the repeating blaster cannon she'd been planning to take next.

There was a pause in the fire from the cannon as one of the gunners shifted to look up at the floor where his friends had been shooting from. A second later he didn't see anything -- there was a knife blocking his view. It all went dark.

The other three rebels watched their friend collapse on the barrel of their gun, then slump out the window. They didn't have a chance to react before Kelsie swung through the window, foot outstretched. Her aim was perfect, the bottom of her foot landing square in the middle of the man's face, the force of the blow pushing his nose into his skull. He wouldn't be getting up from that... Kelsie, on the other hand, landed neatly beside his two friends. The faster of the two drew his pistol, but Kelsie was faster still, her knife flashing in the poor lighting a moment before the man's wrist burst, a long cut spurting blood on the ground. Kelsie wrapped an arm around his and stepped behind him, using the man as a shield as the last fired his pistol at her. She then kicked the corpse at the last of the gunners, knocking him over before she neatly threw her knife into his throat.

She sighed, retrieving her weapons and looking at the little bit of carnage she'd caused. She didn't really like blood, but she had to admit it was so much more satisfying with a knife than a blaster. Her breathing slowed, and she looked at her hands for a moment, as if she could see the layers upon layers of blood she had on them... but a blink later it was gone. She was clean. Clean now... as if. She could never give up this life. A flick of her hands and the knives disappeared once more, the now silent blaster cannon the only evidence of her passing from the outside. Time for her next target.

"Shopping? Nah. I'll stay with the ship, maybe clean up a few things." It had been a couple months since Kahlil left Bastion and the Sith behind in favor of traveling through the stars with [member="Kelsie Sylvan"] . In that time the boy had grown, learning that the Force which he had been so reliant on since a young age had been what was keeping the rest of his body weak. His once lanky form had toned, his muscles having some dimension instead of the sickly form he had before.

The young man gave his companion a wave on her way out, and once she was gone he set about some simple cleaning. Rearranging the heavy boxes of supplies that had been far too heavy for him when he first set out with her. A lot for him had changed in just those couple of months. He hung up his brown leather jacket, leaving him in a black t-shirt and some simple blue trousers. his new blaster hanging from the same hook. For the next half hour he kept himself busy.

Then the screams started.

Even inside of the ship he could hear the sudden turmoil take over the spaceport. A whisper of the Force confirmed it. A lot of people were suddenly dying. He picked up his comlink, calling in to Kelsie with a couple quick beeps. Nothing too loud, but a simple code that she could respond to to let him know she was okay. The man didn't want to expose her to the enemy in case she was hiding.

Once that was done he snatched up his coat and blaster, hitting the lock on the ships ramp as he exited. Last thing they needed was whoever was killing to take their ship. Kahlil pulled his blaster free, rushing to the entrance to the hanger. Peaking out he saw the rebels opening fire on the crowd. Screams continued as more and more dead bodies dropped under the hail.

Kahlil frowned as he watched, his grip tightening on his gun. He couldn't help, not against those numbers. But glancing around he did see someone he could help. A young girl among what he could assume was the corpses of her parents. She was off to the side as one of the rebels made his way over, his gun leveled for a kill shot. The ex-poodoo leapt to action, quickly and silently making his way behind the man as the rest of his squad went ahead.

There was a flash of movement as the terrorist readied himself to shoot and Kahlil acted, pulling free a vibrodagger from it's sheath on his hip and plunged it deep into the mans throat while his other hand grasped the man's mouth. The man coughed up blood into Kahlil's hand as the life quickly left his body. Gently the ex-Sith set the corpse down, putting a blood soaked finger to his lips so the girl would stay quiet.

Not that she was much for conversation. The girl was clearly in shock, but she nodded. The pair quickly made their way back to one of the side rooms where Kahlil would hand her the key to his ship.

"The third hanger. Open the ship and lock it up. There's a compartment in the storage area you can hide in. Stay there. I gotta go get my captain and then we can get out alright?" Again the girl nodded, still shaking. Kahlil let out a sigh, giving her a smile. "You'll be okay. I'll draw the others out and you run. Now go." With that said Kahlil went back to his kill, taking up the blaster rifle the man had been using and rushed down the hallway after the group of terrorists. There was work to be done.

Her saber swatted at several stray bolts, and her blaster continued to fire true. All around her, rocks were telekinetically picked up and thrown at high speeds into the heads of the terrorists who popped out at the sides. Supposedly, they were once a group of New Republic activists, but this was beyond anything the CIS had expected. The clones, commandos, and droids rallied around the Adjudant. “Move cautiously, buddy system. No one goes off alone, keep your head down. We don't need heroes, we need to do this by the book. Let me take point.” One of the clones tried to argue. “There is no time for that. Just obey.”

She knew what she could do. The force gave her a massive advantage compared to her troops. She was the bait, and as they marched on the bazaar, they took the bait. So much blaster fire came at her, and her saber swatted it all out of the way. One tried to fire a rocket at her. Her hand reached out, pushed it up into the air, and it exploded in the air. Oh to see the man's face when he realized just how bad of a mistake he had made. The force snatched him from his perch, and pulled the terrorist to her, face to face. Her helmeted face looked into his, before she sliced him in half with her saber.

Inside, there was a twitch. No, she would do what she had to do, regardless of anything else. He had chosen his fate, and they didn't need any information from him. She could feel her troops trust in her. It grew with each supernatural feat. It was the point, boost her own troops morale, demoralize the enemy. They began to fall back to a more defensible position. This allowed her squad to push deeper into the bazaar. “Stay down, move from cover to cover! We need to make it through this place. It's enclosed, keep your heads DOWN!”

Her commanders warning quite probably saved Iapos life as she stumbled back behind a low concrete wall and the glare from a blaster bolt missing her helmet by an inch blinded her for a second. She blinked rapidly and when she looked up again she was faced with dozens of combatants shooting at them. A glance upwards revealed was the blaster point had come from: not from the ground forces but from the top of the building where snipers where raining blasts upon them.
Almost as an answer to her thoughts, she heard a further order in the coms:
Luna Terrik said:

“I need people in that building, clearing out those blaster nests, now!”
Iapo looked around, the closest exit was twenty meters and at least fifteen people away from her. She ducted back to another group of soldiers and caught the tail-end of their clipped exchange. A Dauntless commando instructed a few soldiers to take the back exit while he'd try for the front one and when he saw her he nodded when she offered to accompany the soldiers trying to access the farther exit.
It was a long shot, they'd have to head back almost to the last building and circumvent the entire block but with the constant barrage of fire, that could very well be the only way.

With the three other soldiers, she ducked behind low buildings and benches until she was out of the line of fire, then they broke out into a jog. Iapo remained cautious. Their opponent seemed to be annoyingly well-prepared for their arrival and she found that being shot in the back by a sniper was an especially ungraceful way to die.

When they came close to the line of fire Iapo gestured to slow down and they inched towards the wall, close enough that they should be indistinguishable from the shadows. They advanced again until the back exit was in their line of sight. She saw a single soldier walking up and down the entryway, and he seemed more frustrated from missing out on the battle than attentive to possible threats.
However, they had no guarantee that they were no snipers in the upper levels of the buildings. Iapo gritted her teeth and turned back to the other soldiers. They agreed to jump once the man was inside and hopefully distracted.

The tense few moments before they attacked were the worse. Iapo looked from one window to another, wondering which could hide a sniper. Between the darkness and the distance, there was no way to know and her eyes followed the comings and goings of the man in front of the entrance. Seeing him disappear in the building she sent out a short prayer to the Spirits and charged towards the entrance.

One second, they were out in the open, they tensed up preparing for an attack from above. Three seconds and they were at the entrance and unscattered, five seconds and they came face to face with the guard. A shot from the soldier on her left and the man fell down. Ten seconds and they were hiding again under a staircase, waiting to see if someone had seen them. When no one appeared Iapo sighed. Good, they were inside. Now they just need to reach the snipers and take them down.

The sniper fire continually raining down on them didn’t help anything at all in the courtyard. There was still very little cover, and the snipers had plenty of height on them to be able to fire at what cover there was. What’s worse yet, the heavy blaster nest on the third floor had yet to be taken out, and was still raining thunderous amounts of blaster bolts onto their position. It was getting to be a worse and worse situation.

They were in a kill zone, and the longer they stayed there, the fewer commandos would be left to try and secure any sort of dropoff point for later in the mission. They needed to either tactically retreat, or find a way to finish off what was left of those in the building. The decision needed to be made quickly too, or there wouldn’t be anyone to do the retreating.

It was at this moment that Luna slowly looked up and over the barrier of her cover, watching as [member="Iapo Sim"] ‘s small group made their way into the front door of the apartment complex. That was enough for the decision to be made in Luna’s mind, that they were going to sit here and fight this out, and not take the time to retreat and find their way around. If Iapo’s group could take care of the snipers, Luna could figure out a way to take care of the heavy blaster nest.

Her options were running low. They couldn’t get close enough to lob grenades into the area, nor could they get their own sniper teams set up in this hailstorm of blaster bolts. Eventually, however, an idea came to mind, with her eyes frantically searching for the tool that would, hopefully, get them out of this deathtrap.

There. A team with a demolition specialist, set up behind of the smaller stone memorials. Two commandos were with the specialist, with all three being held down by blaster fire. Frantically, she motioned over to them, enough so to just get their attention. She tapped her helmet twice, indicating to turn on their comms, and spoke quickly and concicely to the trio.

“I need that blaster nest destroyed now! The two of you lay down covering fire for your specialist. Demo man, you get one shot with that rocket launcher to destroy that section of the building, make it count!” Luna knew how dangerous this plan was, knowing that a rocket shot like that had the potential for bringing that whole building down. She had people in that apartment complex, and god knows how many civilians still resided there.

But if this didn’t work, there was going to be a lot more dead dauntless on the grounds of the courtyard. Taking a moment to comm into the squad inside the building, Luna held her hand up towards the demo team to hold for a moment to give her time to talk. “Iapo, we’re firing a rocket on the heavy blaster nest portion of the building. If you feel the building collapsing, get your people out quick.”

With that message sent, Luna got the go ahead motion to the demo team, who the two non-specialists quickly emerged from cover to blanket the nest with blaster bolts. The commander of the Dauntless did the same, doing their best to draw attention away from the demo man, who in the meantime, was quickly loading up his rocket launcher. After only a few moments, he set sights on the nest and fired away.

The explosion was small, relatively, but it completely blew away the corner of the third floor where the nest used to be. Cracks appeared above and below the floor, but for the few moments afterword, where everything was seemingly quiet, the building was able to stay upright. Luna took a moment to grin momentarily, but quickly refocused. There was still at least three more sniper positions she could count, one of the second, fourth, and was left of the third floor. The battle wasn’t over yet, but it was still slowly turning in their favor.

Kelsie was partway down the staircase when she heard the small set of beeps coming from her commlink. It was Kahlil... thank the Force. Wait, no, thank her. She'd taught him basically everything he needed to stay alive -- she knew he'd be fine, and he should know that she'd be fine... but it made her smile a little that he'd check in. She paused for a moment and returned with a similar pattern, effectively telling Kahlil that she was fine. Opening a comms channel might blow her position, so she didn't communicate anything else, putting away her commlink as she continued to move down the stairs.

It was only a few moments after that she heard the blast. Some sort of rocket launcher -- the blast caused her to stumble. Apparently it had caused others to fall as well -- one of the rebels stumbled and fell at the bottom of the stairs. Their eyes locked and for a moment neither moved before the rebel rolled over and pointed his gun at Kelsie -- but Kelsie had disappeared.

She heard him call out to the snipers on the fourth floor, not too far away, seemingly to warn them of her. Probably wouldn't save them. She peeked over the railing of the cracked staircase, listening for her pursuer as he followed her up the steps. After a few moments he came into view, and a second later a fizzling red blaster bolt flew in front of her face. She flinched and moved up the stairs again, up to the next set of stairs.

This was taking too long... she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, then drew her Enforcer and pointed it at the staircase. Her senses guided her, and she reached out with the Force... and there was a loud crack as her weapon fired. Even with the massive suppressor muzzling the weapon it still sounded adequately cannon-esque, causing Kelsie's ears to ring a little. But she heard the drop of a body below her and let out a small sigh. Her moment of rest was short-lived, though, as the power of the slug combined with the damage already done to the building caused the stairway she was standing on to crumble.

Her body hit the ground hard. Pain shot through her back and in her right foot, but she didn't waste time rolling to the right to avoid any incoming attackers. She sat up and moved up against the wall, her teeth clenched in pain. Bad idea, bad idea... at least she had the corpse of a rebel to keep her company while she took stock of her situation.

Under her helmet, a saberjowl skull painted on it in blue, Damsy rolled her eyes. She had split from Allya with her own team, albeit a little smaller, a few blocks back in order to clear more ground, but she heard her half-sister's command from over the short-distance frequency playing in her ear: "We don't need heroes..."

Doesn't mean we can't be one, alira, she thought, slipping in the Kaminoan term of endearment. The sithspawn didn't have a death wish exactly, punctuated by how she dove out of the way of a launched mortar, tackling a comrade on her way to the cover of an upturned speeder bike. But if dying was the unfortunate side effect of how she did, how she needed to, push herself, then that would be that: an acceptable outcome.

"Cover me!" she shouted over the next explosion as she took her collapsed trident off her belt. The commando popped up over their rusty cover and let a few bolts loose into the air, wispy with smoke that had yet to completely clear.

She found it easy to stand, even after throwing herself down so forcefully, with her newest set of armor, complete with the best shock absorbing leg braces that she had ever owned. A firm shake and the electrostaff extended. A purposeful twist and purple electricity began to spark between the three prongs slowly growing white. A terrorist stood nearly in right front of her, an easy target. She threw her weapon, quick to kneel back behind cover.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the snipers on the fourth floor suddenly stopped firing down into the group. Luna thought to herself that it was odd, knowing that Iapo’s group had only just breached the building a few minutes ago. To make it all the way up to the top, especially without clearing the sniper nests on the second and third floor, wasn’t exactly normal for the usually methodical thinking woman. Either way, snipers were disappearing, and the battle had continued to turn in the Dauntless’s favor.

Smirking to herself, Luna decided to get a little bit more involved in the action. At this point, everyone was much more settled into their cover, so there was little need for her to continue running damage control. These men were highly trained, which meant they could take care of themselves. Luna needed to trust that.

Taking a moment to fall to her belly, the redheaded commander slowly began to crawl her way around the base of the fountain, until she finally had just enough of an angle to lay on her side and still be mostly be behind the cover. It gave her the perfect angle for the shot on the second floor, which she took her time lining up. Everyone around her was giving plenty of distraction and targets to fire at, that the sniper might not have even noticed her until it was too late.

Staring down the scope of her rifle, she could make out two shapes in the window, what she assumed to be the sniper and his or her spotter. Finger curling against the trigger, Luna let out a slow, long breath to completely clear her lungs of air, before pulling the trigger twice in succession quickly, one for the sniper, and one for the spotter. The blue laser bolts shot rapidly toward the window, shooting through it and exploding through the rebel’s head. What left of the window was quickly covered in blood, the snipers having now been relieved of their so called duty.

She would have lined up a second set of shots on the third floor if they suddenly hadn’t turned their attention to her, having seen her fire quickly into the window below them. It took her quickly pushing with her forearm to get behind the cover just in time, a sniper shot quickly burying itself into the ground where she had just been laying.

Luna couldn’t help but grin to herself as she leaned up against the fountain, cold stone pressing against her armor. The thrill of battle was taking over her mind, and she couldn’t help but be drawing excitement from it. If Iapo’s team didn’t take care of the snipers on the third floor, or anyone else for that matter, the commander was happy to take matters into her own hands, once they weren’t focused on her.
