TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Enhances the bearer's skill in Force Pyrokinesis
  • Creates flames of incredible heat and intensity
  • Very destructive to mundane armor or weaponry

STRENGTHS
  • Hungering Fire: Onikage is a thing of terrible, Dark-side polluted flames. In the hands of a Force-sensitive user, it can utilize these unquenchable fires to horrifying effect.
  • Immutable: Other than its own raging corruption, few things can harm Onikage. It is near-impervious to external damage, and will most often outlive its wielder.
  • Burn Together: Onikage has destroyed many lesser blades throughout its long history. It possesses superb armor-piercing potential, and is likely to damage or potentially destroy mundane weapons that it strikes.
  • Unquenchable: Onikage is thing of barely-caged, indiscriminate destruction. It may continue to function to a diminished extent under Force-Suppression (such as Voidstone) though remains fully affected by complete Force-nullification.

WEAKNESSES
  • Consumed: Onikage is in a constant state of slow, steady decay. Whether its user wields it or not, all parts of the weapon experience accelerated self-damage. This decay accelerates further when the weapon's pyrokinetic properties are used, necessitating regular repair.
  • Two-Faced: Onikage cares no more for its wielder than for anyone else. Regular use of this weapon has a detrimental effect on its wielder's sanity, and eventually, its self-consumptive curse can spread to its user.
  • Extinguished: Onikage's internal fires cannot be wielded by the user when under the effects of a Force Nullification field. Under such effects, it is a normal, if exceptionally well-crafted and durable blade.

DESCRIPTION

A treasured possession of the House of Mists and Shadows, Onikage is an ancient Sith sword, one that has been rebuilt, reinforced, and reshaped so many times that very little of the original weapon remains.

The weapon is infused with pyrokinetic ability, causing it to rage with constant internal fire. So terrible are these flames' intensity that the sword itself cannot long survive them. Slowly, inevitably, the weapon's internal fury destroys it. Every part of the sword gradually wears away with astonishing speed, requiring urgent replacement. If viewed closely, or even under a microscope, the weapon looks as though it is undergoing very slow combustion.

The House believes that should Onikage decay entirely, its internal fires will free themselves and consume all of creation. While almost certainly untrue, they are fastidious in replacing any part of the weapon should it become too frail to function. Under most circumstances, Onikage is kept in an active stasis field, a Force-Nullification field, or both at once. Nonetheless, such is its power that the House occasionally risks its use.

As the House currently serves the warlord Helix, the Privateers have provided most of the materials that make up its current form. The blade is forged with an inner Helixium-Kensium core over a folded Helsteel outer layer. This mixture has resisted Onikage's eldritch fires longer than most, but the signs of decay are already there. Blotches of semi-molten damage can be seen along the blade's length, and the weapon's Marrow Flower-Wood grip is charred and uneven.

Despite this, the weapon is incredibly destructive in the right hands. While "merely" a piece of razor-sharp, toxic, armor-shredding metal to most, Onikage's true potential shows in the hands of a skilled Force-sensitive pyrokine.

Such an individual can awaken a small flicker of the weapon's slumbering fires, causing bilious yellow flame to erupt from the blade with a blast-furnace roar. Aside from adding the risk of ignition to the weapon's slicing blows, such fires can be projected from the weapon in great, sweeping area bursts, potentially threatening a sizeable area of the battlefield.

These unnatural yellow flames are all but inextinguishable, burning avidly in water or vacuum as much as in atmosphere, and will blaze for hours under their own power should the wielder not extinguish them.

Few other weapons can withstand direct contact with Onikage. A mundane blade of common materials is likely to melt or shatter immediately. More durable weapons, made of exotic materials or Sith alchemical processes, can more reliably escape such destruction. Nonetheless, even these can potentially be damaged by the Consumed Blade, should repeated direct strikes land.

Onikage is a thing of indiscriminate destruction, and eventually, this must include its bearer. Putting aside the great risk of self-immolation in utilizing this weapon, every previous wielder has reputedly fallen into madness. It is even said that excessive use risks the spread of the weapon's self-consumptive nature to its wielder...
