One Flew Over the Nano Nest....

Judah took a swig of water and wiped some of the blood off his temple. He must have a gash somewhere in the mess of curls that made up his hair. He shook his head slightly, like a shaggy dog. He was starting to get a little woozy from all the electrical hits. Honestly he didn't expect to beat the alien, Judah was actually hoping for the chance to pass out and be carted off stage. Anything to fall into a black numbness.

Turning at the word 'Dash', Judah's gaze hardened. He appraised her appearance, looking as if she rolled out of bed and found him down here. How, he wasn't quite sure. Captain Kai must have passed tracking class with flying colors in boot camp.Any other day, Judah would have refused to fight her. Tonight he was pissed, ready to take down the world.

"No, I can't. Getting rid of myself is easier"

Ding.Ding.Ding.

Judah came out of his side hard, letting his emotions fuel his actions-a big mistake. Learning from the alien, he made sure his shots were more measured this time, going straight for Captain Kai's stomach with a strong punch.

He was just as angry as she felt. It was better seeing him like this than in passive denial. But what he said was more disturbing. His punch was swift and precise. Her arm went down to block, taking the bulk of his hit. The bite of the shock-boxing glove jarred all the way up to her shoulder, causing her blocking arm to hang tingling and limp at her side.

Lunging forward, she brought her good arm in a swift right-hook toward Judah’s chin. “It’s time to forgive yourself,” she whispered tersely and meant for his ears only, as she went in close.

As her punch hit his chin, Judah had to fight to stay upright. The Galan could pack a hard hit, add the shockboxing gloves into the mix and he was a little dazed. Now she was trying to talk to him and fight. Was Captain Kai trying to anger him more? Perhaps it was a part of her strategy. Rubbing the side of his chin, metallic taste flooded his mouth. Great, nothing to do but to swallow it and keep going.

"Not possible" He said a little thickly due to the hit. Raising his arms, Judah swung again, taking a swipe at the side of her head.

She ducked, but not fast enough. She took a half hit to her temple, the jolt to her head making her vision spin and for a moment she saw stars.

Never thought she’d see these outside of a cockpit.

Trying to shake it off, she lunged off the balls of her feet, aiming a jab with her well-toned arm at the taller shaggy-haired pilot’s shoulder. She never claimed to have the best balance on dry land. With the combination of his hit and her lunge, she found herself throwing her entire body weight into Judah, now in fear of toppling over and taking him with her.

“Frak it, Judah,” she grunted.

Great now I really did kill her.

Moving quickly Judah caught the falling Galan, bracing himself so they both didn't tumble over like idiots. He couldn't tell if she was truly clumsy at first or merely throwing her weight at him to knock them both down. Deciding on the first possibility since it seemed to make the most sense, seriously, Thessa didn't even weigh enough to put a dent into him.

Careful not to let the contact portions of the gloves touch any part of the woman, Judah helped keep her steady. "What the hell are you doing here?" He asked a little angrily, low enough so only she could hear. The young pilot was moving the Captain to the outside of the ring, this game had gone on long enough. The crowd seemed a little disappointed but there were always fighters to replace the two who had just exited.

"Son of a Hutt! I put money down on that fish. Now its a forfeit?Who is allowing this?"

Judah couldn't help but chuckle as he past, moving out of the crowd, keeping Thessa close to him. As soon as the crowd had cleared and it was quiet enough, Judah turned the Galan to face him, placing his hands on her shoulders.

"You alright? Secondly why are you here and thirdly go the hell back home. You shouldn't be here" Despite being angry, Judah still cared.

Iced-azure gaze darkened as her ears picked up on a yell from the crowd. “Did they just call me a fish? I’ll show ‘em,” the hot-headed flight captain stripped off her gloves and chucked them into the crowd. Before she could do more, she felt Judah leading her away. And after that hit, she was still feeling a little off-kilter and was thankful for his steadying hand.

“I’m fine,” she growled, commanding her vision to focus and trying not to snap and jab Judah in the nose, which is what she really wanted to do. “What am I doing here? What the FRAK are you doing here?” Stepping forward, hands reached up and cupped either side of his face so he couldn’t pull away. Her voice was quiet again. “Stars Judah, I thought we agreed not to lie to each other.”

There was that quiet, caring voice again. His first instinct was to brush it off or lie again but Judah doubted Thessa would slip up a second time. Especially since she was literally holding him in place, one false move and she may rip off some of his facial hair.

"Technically I didn't lie. I just slipped out while you were sleeping."

That comment may piss her off Judah, might want to start explaining a little quicker. He adverted his eyes, not wanting to see those ice-blue eyes staring into him, trying to get the bottom of everything. If only she had stayed asleep, back at the base. His goal probably would have been attained by now and Thessa would have been none the wiser. At least til morning.

"I was down here to just get rid of it all." Judah shrugged slightly. "No big deal Captain"

She released him. “Well, next time I’m putting bells on you,” aqua lips smirked. “Don’t you realize I’m worried about you?” Voice rose again and she stepped back to give herself space. “And what do you mean, get rid of it all, how were you going to accomplish that, hm?”

Hands perched on hips as she stared the pilot down.

"Not important" Judah said gruffly, not wanting to go into any details and avoiding her statement about caring. He stripped off the shoxboxing gloves and returned them back for the next unlucky fighter. Collecting his boots and shirt, he pulled the thin fabric back down over his head and got ready to leave. Its like I'm being collected from school for fighting.

"Any chance of letting me go home this time? It would give you a few doors and buildings between us Captain."

“But it is important. For frak sake Judah!” Hands dropped and fists clenched at her sides. Sweat glistened off her skin, lit by the back-alley street lights. Walking up to him, her palms shoved him roughly in the chest, pushing off the thin fabric of his shirt. “Just tell me!”

“And nice try. You’re nowhere near shape to go home. Ask me that again in two weeks…oh, I’m sorry, 13 days, and I’ll let you know.”

Why did Thessa have to be so stubborn? Most people had the good sense to leave the situation alone, especially after no response from the other party. Not once but twice! Judah figured he wasn't going home, it was worth a shot. If he told Thessa the truth he was never going home. Judah would turn into a permanent fixture on the living room floor. Still....if she wanted to know then so be it.

"What did I want? I wanted to end up dead. There, I said it. I'm tired, sick and tired of it all. You have no idea..."

Yep, that admission just earned him an indefinite stay in Thessa Kai's Rehab for Mentally Unstable Pilots.

Stepping closer, she wrapped Judah in a tight hug. And no, she wasn’t letting him go. “You’re right, I have no idea what you’re going through,” her voice murmured against his ear. “But guess what? People do care about you. Have you ever thought what you would do to them if you did die? And really, death by boxing?”

Body trembled against his as a chuckle escaped aqua-lips. “Just let me know and I’ll gladly stun you again, instead.”

"What?Death by boxing is the newest way to go" Judah gently hugged her back, even though Thessa didn't seem to be releasing him. Not that he minded in the least.

"I have thought about those in my life. My family would be heartbroken but they would live, their lives wouldn't change. You'd find someone else to wax all of the birds in the hangar and take out the trash." Judah looked at Thessa and have a half-smile despite his admission. Stun him? Right the nano thing...not a experience he wanted to relive. Those little blaster stun rays were unpleasant.

"Lets go, unless you'd like to stay in this alley. Are you cold?I can give you my shirt" He didn't miss the trembling. Judah rubbed her arm gently, amazed how Thessa made him run the gamut of emotions in such a short time span.

A moment or two longer enjoying his warmth, she released him. She was beginning to finally see the effect he had on her and it was unnerving. “I could find someone else to run laps but it wouldn’t be the same,” the teasing smile remained on aqua lips as she walked with Judah back toward her apartment.

“And you obviously didn’t think about it all that hard. For a parent to lose a child is no easy thing,” she pointed it out as if from experience. But it probably wasn’t experience that Judah expected.

Bare feet padded along the cement as they wound their way up the stairs to the door. “And thanks for the offer of your shirt, but I don’t trust myself.” Walking close to the pilot, she offered him a crooked smile as she re-entered the small dwelling space. “Home-sweet-home. You ready to sleep this time?”

Palms came up to push against her tired eyes.

Judah was still pondering her words about being able to trust herself. He gave a glance to Thessa, obviously something had to happen. As soon as Judah felt close to her it was like a wall would come up and then he would be back at arms length. As if the real Thessa didn't want to show herself. At least he didn't die tonight, might give him a chance to see Boss become more and more normal.

"You lost a baby or child?I'm sorry....I didn't know." While in her room earlier, he saw no holos of a previous life. No potential father of said child, no child period. Maybe it was too painful.

"Only if I can sleep out here. I promise, no escaping. You'd just track me down again anyways"

“Mmm,” she swayed slightly on her feet, stifling another yawn. Gaze re-sharpened at his mistaken assumption. “No, I haven’t lost a baby,” scale-speckled cheeks flushed before a somber look crossed her features. “I lost my younger sister. My parents…what they went through,” voice trailed off. “I’d never put anyone through that,” she took a deep breath. “Sorry, I’m just tired. I’m usually…more in control.”

Boy did he know that.

“And deal. I will track you down,” offering a light smile, she disappeared into the bedroom to bring Judah another pillow. Tossing it at Dash, she waved a goodnight.

………………………………

Most days were the same. Eating, chatting, trips out. But one night, something was different. Judah would probably be woken by the screams coming from Thessa’s room as the pale light of dawn filtered through the windows.

Stretching on the section of floor between the couch and coffee table, Judah lifted his head from the pillow. He was half-asleep and a little confused, did he hear the scream or was it a nightmare? Rubbing his eyes-as if that would help him hear, Judah heard it again and frowned. Now it had to be real or he was seriously having issues otherwise. Here he had been doing so great in his first week on 'the outside'.

Getting up, Judah made his way to Captain Kai's door. It was the only place he could pinpoint the screams coming from and it sounded like her tone of voice. He went for the knob but stopped. What if the screams were those kinds of screams? Judah was up earlier in the night and the entry door stuck....there was no way Thessa could just sneak in a romantic partner. Either way, his mind was made up about going in.

Reaching back for the door knob, Judah quickly opened the door, trying to observe the entire room at once for threats....

Scarlet flashes lit up her vision beneath closed lids. A sheen of sweat clung to her skin and she thrashed in bed, fingers deftly gripping the twisted sheets. Blue-streaked driftwood locks tangled around her face and aqua lips parted in another terrifying scream.

“No!” They echoed the screams only she could hear in the headset in her vision. Explosions lit up the night sky as an entire planet’s surface was ravaged below. Her cock-pit shook violently and another explosion rocked the nose of her ship.

With another violent kick and thrash of her arms, she yelled again in her tormented sleep.

Judah visibly relaxed. For a brief second, the young man thought Thessa was getting murdered. It was a bit too early to deal with a dead boss, especially one he had tried killing. That would look all types of good.Crossing the short distance, he wondered best how to go about this without being hit too much.

Judah leaned over the bed, carefully grabbing one arm and putting it at her side, holding it in place until he could pin it with the side of his body. The other arm was still thrashing out a bit and he took a ding to the head before he brought the Captain's other appendage under control. Having effectively pinned Thessa in place the best he could, his free hand reached out and patted her cheek a few times to get her to wake up.

"Hey, Boss....wake up. Lets go Captain, up and at 'em. We don't have all day to be lounging in bed.Thats an order.Lets go, wake up"
