Golden green eyes slowly opened to view the ceiling of the new ship that the couple had gotten soon after the old one had crashed and burned. Well, minus the burning part, but it had however been buried under dirt, rock and soot. The lupine wouldn’t even be surprised if lava now covered the damned thing. To be honest, she had been surprised that they had survived the initial crash and she was still gun shy when it came to flying. Whenever the ship would shake, the wolf was looking for the closest exit and or crash bunker. That feeling was close to the surface when boarding a ship and sleeping on one wasn’t at all an easy feat either. However, slowly but surely, the lupine was beginning to settle back into sleeping on a ship once more. Except, ever since being on Taloraan, something was out of place.

Redd rolled to her side and reached out to feel for her mate, but he was already gone. Normally she too would be up, but of late the woman was feeling more and more lethargic. Tired and emotional even. More prone to snapping at anyone who dared looked at her in the wrong way. Mornings seemed to be the worst time and perhaps that might explain why Haastal seemed as if he was getting up earlier then her, but she couldn’t let paranoia sink in even though she felt restless. With a soft groan the woman moved to sit up and the sheet slid off of her naked body. A hand moved to grab at a silk nightgown as she rose up off the bed and she pulled it over her pale frame, only to wrap the silk belt around and tie it off.

A yawn parted her lips as she took a step forwards, but as she did so the world seemed to tilt upon its axis as dizziness pulled at her conscious mind. Hands reached out to grab at anything to hold her steady and the only thing that caught her fall, were hands that grabbed onto the back of a chair. Yet, it didn’t so much as stop, but slow the fall as she pulled the chair down with her and a loud crash sounded from the shared room. A snarl of frustration was quick to her lips as she closed her eyes and slammed a fist down upon the floor beside her. What is wrong with me? Redd questioned as her free hand gripped at her head which seemed as if it was still spinning. A whimper was stuck within her throat as she felt panic settle in. Was she not healed from their adventures on Mustafar? Was there some underlying problem that she didn’t quite understand?

Whatever the issue, she couldn’t let Haastal see. She couldn’t show weakness, not anymore. The lupine was stronger than this and Redd didn’t want her mate to think that she was anything less than capable. Yet history was beginning to show her that she was weak and the wolf hated it. It made her angry to think such thoughts and she growled at herself. The wolf willed herself back up onto her feet, but this time her hand grabbed a hold of the wall as she half staggered to the bathroom just as nausea crashed into her like a tonne of bricks. Nausea which had her stomach rolling and heaving so much, that she barely made it to the toilet to empty the contents of her stomach into it. Contents which barely contained any traces of food and was mostly just clear liquid of the fluids that she had managed to consume before she had fallen asleep.

After an upheaval of her stomach, the lupine paused long enough to listen to the ship and she was able to locate the sounds of Haastal’s footsteps. He cannot see me like this, was the only thought that crossed her mind and Redd moved to reach out a weak arm so then she could swing the door closed. An action which only brought about more dizziness and another upheaval of her stomach brought the contents of pure liquid up. After she was done, the woman slowly moved to sit down upon the floor beside the toilet and rested her clammy forehead against the cool surface of the wall. To say that she was confused about her current condition, was the understatement of the century.

The days had been getting longer. The mornings were earlier and the nights were later. Really it was a pain in the ass. Still, Haastal tried to keep some things in line. He'd been waking up earlier than usual so he could spend some time at the gym. A place where he could find some quiet. Recently Redd had been going through something of a change. Haastal chalked it up to being that time of the month but it seemed like it was more than that. She was moody and that, more than anything, was a direct line to the Mandalorian's nerves.

Still, he wasn't the type of guy to hold a grudge for something like a short temper.

So he figured he'd come back to the ship after his morning workout and spend some time with Redd. Luckily times recently had been a little more settled with the slow decline of the Agents of Chaos. Security had finally been able to lax a bit so Haastal didn't even have to travel around under some ridiculous guard. Still, there were always dangers in the galaxy they lived in.

Haastal slapped his fist against the control panel on his new ship's landing wing. The loading ramp slowly descended down to the platform with a soft hiss erupting from the hydraulics. He adjusted the gym bag over his shoulder before making his way up the ramp. The main door to the ship opened up and Haastal stepped into the ship with a soft whistle. Most of the lights were out as it was still relatively early, but Haastal called out anyway. "Redd?" He called out, tossing the bag onto the couch in the center of the hold. "Babe? You up?" Haastal wore a thin black tank top and a set of grey sweats. He made his way back into the room where he saw the bathroom door closed. The Mandalorian arched a brow before tapping his fist against the glass door. "Hey, Redd, you take a shower yet?" He asked her.

Redd closed her golden eyes as she listened to the soft whistle of the man that she had come to love. Although the original intent hadn’t been to fall in love with him, she had all the same. Had mated with him upon the damn ship that had crashed and the man had become her choice of drug, one that she had taken full advantage of. She remembered every adventure that they had gone on since the day they had first met and a soft smile curved her lips as she enjoyed the cool surface of the wall against her cheek. The dizziness was beginning to fade and as she lifted a hand to rest it upon her lower stomach, she realised that the nausea was also slowly going away. The distraction of such memories had helped, but it was the calming effect that the male had upon her that had also reminded her of the memories.

As she listened to the man’s footsteps while they travelled through the ship, a sigh graced her lips as she pulled herself up from the floor. It was then when the male tapped against the glass of the door, that she realised that closing the door was a little out of character for her. Flushing the toilet, the woman crossed over to the sink. ”No! Not yet. The door is not locked.” She said as she quickly moved to bend over the sink to splash her pale face with the liquid to try and remove any evidence of what had just transpired. The last thing that she wanted was to appear weak and yet although she knew that she should eat, she couldn’t bear the thought of throwing it back up all over again. It was horrid enough when all that she brought up was liquid.

The lupine heard the door open just as she rinsed her mouth out and she reached for a face towel to wipe the clear liquid from her face. ”Did you enjoy your session at the gym this morning?” Redd queried as she turned and plastered a smile upon her lips. Golden eyes peered back at him as they slowly slid over the man’s body in appreciation. The woman licked her lips as she angled her head slightly to the right, all the while her right hand managed to hold her steady by the basin as it held a tight grip upon its lip. Redd always knew that sometimes the colour of her eyes gave her away and it was something that she had never been able to control. Golden green was a neutral colour. Green usually meant that she was closer to her human half and felt human emotions more strongly. Golden meant that she was closer to her wolf and when that happened, she was either in fight, flight or hide mode. At this particular moment, Redd wanted nothing more than to curl up in a dark cave and wait until the sickness that made her nauseated and dizzy would fade. Even in this state, she couldn’t predict when a wave of dizziness would wash over. It would be a hazard on the battlefield and a danger to Haastal. Especially because she had t told him and it was a hazard that she did not want to admit.

”I uh… Must have slept in. The lupine said as her gaze flickered to the door for a second before returning to the man before her and smiled. ”I’ll let you shower and while you do that, I’ll go make the coffee and make plans to go see Gerwald to talk about leaving the Knight’s.” She said as her smile wavered just slightly. It had been something that Haastal had asked her to do, but she hadn’t had the heart to do it just yet. It was a task that the woman had been putting off for quite some time and although she was only going to do it now to provide a distraction for the man, the woman was really going to go through with it. Redd wanted nothing more than to focus on what she had with her Mate right here and now and she could see that he wanted her full devotion to the Mandalorian cause. A cause that she too wanted to be a part of and it was a cause that she had to leave the Knight’s for.

His mate was acting off.

Haastal was good at reading people and for Redd whom he loved? He could read her like a book. Not to say he could put his finger on it, but still the Mandalorian wasn't the kind of man who silently stewed on those kinds of thoughts. When she came out the bathroom, he glanced back over to the bed before he turned his eyes back to his mate. His hand came up to hold her chin before he leaned down, pressing his lips to hers and enjoying a quick kiss from the woman. "You ok?" He asked her, before holding a hand up and chuckling. "And before you tell me some crazy shit, I know somethin's up." He said with a smirk before tapping her forehead playfully. "You coming down with somethin'?" He wondered, before kissing her cheek and turning back to the bedroom.

The skin on her face was cool but when he took her hands they were oddly warm. He arched a brow but didn't pay it any mind. He shook his head before jerking a thumb back towards the kitchen. "
Nah, let's have some breakfast, then we can both take a shower after. Maybe get a little dirty while we get clean." He said, his tone low and teasing as his hands fell down to her hips, pulling her close to him with a smirk. He leaned forward to give her backside a firm slap, grabbing it possessively before turning his back to her and leading into the kitchen. "So I got an idea for our next trip. We got a good shipment of Beskar last time. We should go find a forge and see if we can forge some new weapons. There should be one at The Enclave. I was thinkin' of gettin' you something you can use in your wolf form. Got any ideas?" He spoke, pulling out supplies for a morning breakfast of bacon and eggs.

The red wolf wasn’t the one to dwell upon emotions, in fact, the wolf was an animal through and through. It knew of the fight or flight instinct and would bare its teeth before even thinking about backing down. There was no need for emotion, but basic instinct. Fight or die. There was no room for doubt, sadness, happiness or even jealousy. Fear drove the animal to defend itself and fear was a powerful tool. One that she had used many times before. So when her mate kissed her and asked if she was ok, she wouldn’t have even known what to say. What emotion was she feeling exactly? Was it fear? Fear of whatever that was making her unusually sick? It was as if some mystery plague had taken a hold of her and made itself a home within her pale body. Was she disgusted? Indeed she was. Disgusted by her apparent weak body that was always finding some way to let her down.

Weak, growled the wolf from within as she felt Haastal’s finger tap her forehead and listened as he continued to speak.

Almost as if on cue, her stomach growled when the thought of food was mentioned and she made note that it was empty due to the fact that she had for some reason just unloaded it only minutes prior. However, her mind was taken off of that particular fact when she felt his strong, calloused hands closing upon her hips and she felt as if her body naturally gravitated towards the man whose body structure was taller than she was. Bulkier even compared to her rather lean frame. His smirk was even infectious as it drew a smirk upon her own lips and the light playfulness of his behaviour almost made her forget that she had been sick only just moments ago. ”Well, I think that sounds just what I need right now.” She said with a growl as she felt his slap across her backside, only to squeeze it firmly. Such an action made her almost want to forget about breakfast.

Almost.

Quietly, she made her way into the kitchen and perched her lithe frame upon a stool that was positioned by the counter top. If she had her way, they would be eating everything raw, eggs included. However, she was having to constantly remind herself that Haastal was human and some things had to be cooked. Although, she was of the frame of mind that some things, like meat especially, tasted better raw from a fresh kill. There was just something about it. Sometimes, she could have sworn that she could taste fear within the very meat that she had consumed and it tasted absolutely divine. That was if someone could actually taste fear. It may have sounded odd to someone who didn’t know her well. Someone who didn’t know that she ate the bare minimum in between fights and so not only would she kill her opponent, but would often drag it’s carcass back with her so then she could devour it. Such was the circle of life.

Golden eyes blinked, as her mate asked her a question and she angled her head slightly to the right for a moment. Redd quite enjoyed it when Haastal spoke with his rough and deep voice. If she could, she would rather that he would do all the talking. After all, she did spend a good chunk of her time in wolf form and not being able to talk herself, so she had relished the silence to day dream of forested pathways and live deer. After a moment, she spoke. ”While I do enjoy the thought of being even more stronger in wolf form than I currently am. I thought that we were trying to further better my fighting stance in human form? Including weapons training?” She queried as she watched the man closely while essentially dodging the first question he had asked.

OBJECTIVE
Tags: Redd Redd

The more Haastal thought about it, the more he couldn't feel as if something was off. Still, he was slightly more focused on making breakfast than digging into his own mind. He pulled out a number of things for a good spread. Bacon, eggs, sausage, bread, and a few pieces of fruit. He pulled a piece of raw bacon from the package, holding it out to Redd without a second thought. He knew she preferred her meat raw and it didn't bother him, so long as she didn't try to have him eat the same way. The Mandalorian turned back to the stove, turning the head over to high before looking at Redd. He took a piece of fruit into his hand, biting into it while nodding. "Damn right. Still, doesn't hurt to help all sides of it. Maybe some Vibroblade trainin'. You like up and close, we can work with that." He told her.

The man turned from the woman, running a hand along his shoulder and over the very apparent scar from where his lover had bitten him in her wolf form. He chuckled at the thought before returning his thoughts to the task at hand, still he spoke a bit more. "The Enclave is growin'. Which is good but anytime Mandalorians come together it usually spells bad for them. We gotta protect ourselves, y'know? Even in The Confederacy there are probably people who'll wanna come for us." The man pulled a knife from the drawer, flipping it around in his hand with a smirk. "When they do we can chop 'em up. Then you can eat them." He said with a smirk to his woman. He set the knife down, approaching Redd with his hands falling back down to her waist.

"Besides, I figured once we finish our next mission we can take a break. Go somewhere with a lot of liquor and spend a few days..." His voice trailed off as a single finger ran down Redd's slender neckline.

Bacon… Eggs… Sausages… It all looked delectable and she licked her lips as she lifted her nose just slightly to sniff the air. The aroma drifted to her in a way that was tempting the wolf to leap right over the counter and devour every single piece. If she had been a wolf, she would have been drooling right then and there. However, as her stomach rumbled once again, a queasy feeling crashed into her which was almost like a punch to the gut and she lifted a hand to cover her mouth in order to resist that gag reflex that was itching to be expressed. No… she withheld it as much as she could and was quietly grateful that Haastal had turned his back towards her when he had. Weakness was just not acceptable and yet, she couldn’t understand as to why she was the way that she was right now. What was going on that was making her body ill?

Redd’s hand dropped to rest back upon the counter, before she slowly slid the bacon that Haastal had given her, away from her. Yet the smell was still ever present. Although, it helped to listen to her mate speak and that was exactly what she needed in order to distract herself from the nausea. Not to mention the headache that seemed to be pounding within her temple and with that thought in mind, she lifted a hand to rub at it while golden eyes watched him pull out a knife only to crack a joke. She found it funny, she really did and would have smirked and laughed at such a comment, but it was the thought of eating that made her nausea only that much more worse. So instead, she forced a chuckle as she shook her head in the process. ”Well, I would be lying if I said that I hadn’t eaten anyone.” Not really. Human flesh was always off bounds unless she was dying of starvation and was on her deathbed. Somehow, even though she was more wolf than human, eating humans just never appealed to her.

With that, the wolf leaned into her mate as his hands fell upon her hips and she found comfort within his arms once again. While she listened to his words and felt his fingers upon her neck, of which she was sure that it probably felt clammy to the touch. She felt hot. Unbelievably hot and it was this feeling that made her feel guilty. Guilty for withholding the truth from him. Did she deserve such an attentive mate? The red wolf wasn’t sure as she pulled away from him and rose up from her seated position so then she could face him. Plus this position angled her nose away from the food and lessened the smell, if only by the smallest of fractions and a sigh graced her lips as she lifted a hand only to rest it upon her stomach. A stomach that seemed empty, but still wanted to make her hurl. Was there even anything left to puke?

”Look… Haastal. There is something I need to tell you and there is no easy way to say this, so please don’t interrupt me.” Redd said softly as her gaze dropped to view their feet. Nerves seemed to bunch up and she took a moment to simply breathe, to listen to her mate. The wolf listened to the man’s steady heartbeat that seemed to have jumped ever so slightly in pace, she heard the intake of air as his lungs filled with the life giving substance that helped to power the strong frame that stood before her with arms wrapped around her. She felt his strength as she lifted her free hand to lightly rest it upon his muscled chest and she smelled the dry sweat upon his skin from his workout that only added to his scent. A scent that she was addicted to in every way. What would she do without him?

Die… Whispered the wolf from within and Redd knew it to be true. She would shatter and there would be no trace of humanity left. The wolf would win and the human Redd would be no more.

”Haastal… I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but I think I’m sick. I keep vomiting and the smell of food just makes me want to throw up even more. It’s like my body can no longer fend off illnesses and it’s as if my body isn’t my body anymore. Something is wrong and I just feel weak.” Redd finally admitted in a whisper as she squeezed her eyes closed. The wolf wanted to hide, even in this moment, she wanted to run and hide. She didn’t want to see whether he rejected her or not due to her body’s apparent weakness, yet she also couldn’t help that her other senses seemed to kick in and focus solely upon the man that stood before her.

When it came to being perceptive, Haastal had always prided himself on not missing much. Now he wasn't necessarily the most intelligent man so he couldn't always decipher what he'd seen, but more often than not he could catch the little things that others missed. His eyes watched Redd slide the piece of bacon to the side and he arched a brow at the action. She never turned down fresh bacon out of the pack, what was going on with this girl? When Redd wrapped into him he smiled, yet his eyes scanned her neckline. Her skin was pale and clammy, yet she seemed to be in a sweat. Finally she began to speak on how she felt. He kept quiet as she asked, listening to her speak.

Now, for Redd who was a bit less connected to the human within her these things did not seem to equate to anything outside of pure sickness or weakness. However, Haastal's face deadpanned when the woman mentioned her symptoms. His eyes turned to a nearby clock on the wall. It was still the morning. He rested a hand on Redd's shoulder before looking down to his mate and asking a seemingly unrelated question. "Does it feel worst when you first wake up?" He asked her. Almost immediately he ran a hand over his head, cursing softly.

"Oh I'm stupid as hell." He snapped, bringing his hands up to his head as he cleared his throat and looked to Redd. He could see the clear concern on her face but he realized he probably hadn't done anything to help it. "Redd...did you catch a period this month?" He asked her, but already knew the answer.

No.

Women didn't tend to bleed when it was time for their bodies to produce heirs. Finally Haastal chuckled before taking Redd's hands and pulling her into his chest. "You're not weak, Redd...You need to take a pregnancy test." He breathed.

PREGNANT?
Tags: Haastal Haran Haastal Haran

Redd didn’t really know what to expect from her mate. She thought that maybe he might be disappointed or worse, disgusted in her body’s apparent failing strength. Yet, what he did and said next only caused her to feel even more confused, which had her head angling slightly to the side as she listened. A nod was given to his first question and a shake of her head to the second. Come to think of it, she hadn’t bled that month. It had been well and truly over a month since she had last bled, bordering on two months and her mind began to reel with the line of questioning that Haastal had begun upon. Then, when he told her that she had to take a pregnancy test, time seemed to slow down to a screeching halt and her mind seemed to go into overdrive. Almost as if the very thought of the possibility of being pregnant was too much for the wolf to process. Question was, could she handle it?

Something just didn’t seem right, for many wolves had struggled for many years to conceive and the red wolf, the byproduct of what they had assumed was due to inbreeding; could conceive easily enough? There had to be some piece of the puzzle that she was missing, but if she were to take a test and find out that she was pregnant, what then? What kind of parent would she be? Would her worst fears of having a cub, only to have its parents die in front of it come true? What if she wasn’t a good parent? What if she couldn’t carry the pup to full term?

Slowly, Redd took a deep breath and leaned into the warmth of her mate’s arms while her chin angled downwards so then her cheek could rest upon the male’s chest. For a time, she remained quiet as she stood there listening to Haastal’s steady heartbeat and allowed the sound to seemingly lull her into a state of calm. ”It’s not possible,” She finally whispered as the woman struggled to accept the proof right before her eyes. ”It’s too soon,” she continued as denial seemed to set in, but the wolf knew deep within that it was true. Had felt it before the symptoms had shown up. There had been a feeling of calm and she remembered Taloraan where she had felt life but had palmed it off as an error. The truth had been right before her very eyes and she hadn’t been able to accept it.

Finally, she pulled away from her mate as a restlessness took root and she paced the room. Back and forth, back and forth… Back and forth.

With each step taken, doubts crept in until finally she stopped and stared with vibrant golden eyes at her mate.More tests? I’m beginning to feel as if I’m some lab rat that the medical team can just poke and prod at whenever something happens.” Redd growled as she shook her head and lifted a hand to drag pale fingers through red locks. Then, after another moment of silence, she continued to speak, but this time she sort to give a voice to her doubts. ”I’m scared Haastal. If I’m pregnant, I don’t know what to expect. I’m not mother material. Hell, I’m only just starting to really live and now I’m pregnant? I’m not ready.” She finally said as her voice trailed off into a whisper. Was there even a way that an individual could be ready for such a life changing event? Was there even an answer for such a question like that?

Whatever it was, fear of being a parent was creeping in at a rapid pace and the feeling of a need to hide, began to grow.

When Redd fell silent, the amused expression that Haastal had held on to was beginning to fade. She pressed herself to him and his arms came down to coax her closer in to his embrace. He looked down to Redd for a few spare moments before she finally stepped away from his arms. The man turned to the table, pulling out a fresh pack of cigarras. He'd appreciate a fresh pack more than an opened one right now. He pulled one of the cylinders from the case, watching Redd pace around the room nervously. He watched her closely, his expression not hiding the bit of confusion within him. It wasn't that he didn't understand, having kids was a different kind of path. Not anything next to the path that the two were on, still the Mandalorian was visibly unshaken thus far.

After lighting the cigarra, Haastal chuckled a bit at the words Redd spoke about the tests. "You piss on a piece of plastic, Redd. It's not that kind of test. Besides, you don't even need a Doctor. We can get a midwife from clan Verd to help you." Verd. The word made him realize something, almost as if it finally donned on him the weight of the situation. "Damn." He said for a moment before taking a shallow drag from the cigarra. "We're gonna have a kid."

When Redd finally revealed her fears, Haastal pulled the cigarra from his lips, pinching the embers and tossing the cylinder back on the countertop. He dusted his hands against one another before approaching Redd and taking her hand in his. "Hey, hey." He said, trying to get the woman to focus on him rather than her stresses.

"Redd it's gonna be alright." He told her. "Look, my clan has things that can help us, ok? I know they got nurseries and schools an' all that shit. I'm gonna be here to help you, y'know?" He said, turning his eyes to hers as he held her chin, forcing her eyes to connect with his. "I got you, ok?" He promised, pulling her back into his arms. Haastal was able to keep calm for the moment, but even he was wondering just what kind of father he could be? He didn't really have any kind of paternal experience, hell he didn't even really like kids all that much.

”Yes,” She murmured as she leaned into her mate’s arms for comfort. ”Our pups will still have your clan to help out.” The woman had almost forgotten about such a fact, that he had a whole clan that would back him if things went south for him. His offspring would of course be born a Verd and therefore be protected by the collective many. Even if something were to happen to her, then he wouldn’t be alone when it would come to raising their pup. She knew that Gerwald, her brother, would help. Especially when it came to its lupine genetics, but a single brother was all that she had to offer her future pup. Not a pack, nor a clan and she closed her golden eyes as she sighed. Redd had to make sure that she lived, to make sure that her pup would grow up and know what it was like to not just be human, but wolf. The wolf wasn’t at all bad and she intended on showing them as such.

However, the woman knew that she couldn’t stand like this forever. They both had to know if she truly was pregnant and if it turned out to be true, then she would need her wolf’s strength to push through the sickening symptoms of pregnancy. As her human form was always failing her. At least, that was what it seemed like at times. ”Alright, I better go get the test, in order to take it.” She said softly as she pulled away from the man in order to go find the stupid stick to take. It’s results was unexpected to say in the least, but at least she could finally say for certain that she wasn’t ill per se. Redd just had another being growing inside of her and the living being had taken up home inside of her body for its conception. Until it was ready to leave, she couldn’t quite say for certain what kind of havoc it would play upon her body. The wolf just hoped that it wouldn’t make her sick the entire time.

After the test came back positive and the red wolf had had another freak out, she soon found herself walking towards what was supposed to be an ultrasound. The first one of many and the woman wanted to hide. Her body was going through some serious changes to accomodate life and she now had a young pup on board that was still developing. She had to protect it with her life and her natural instincts to hide and protect the pup was kicking into overdrive. A feeling that she was going to have to work on straightening out in order to maintain a normal life. At least, normal in the sense of a human normal. Redd was going to have to look to her mate and rely upon him more in the early stages in order for her to not go entirely insane. To not dwell upon the past and fear a repeat of such an event. She didn’t want the life that she had, for her pup and she was determined to protect her pup, no matter the cost.

Yet, even as she stood in front of the door, she hesitated and turned towards Haastal. ”What if our pup turns out to be deformed? Life is hard enough for us lupines having to wrestle with two different halves; being handicapped in any way would create even more problems for the pup.” Redd said softly as she dreaded opening the door and walking in to pretend to like the sonographer that would confirm her pregnancy. A pregnancy that a stick had already confirmed. Apparently multiple tests had to be taken as a stick could create a false positive; whatever that was. Yet, her impending motherhood made sure that her sleep was just as tumultuous as her nausea that followed soon after in the morning. It was brutal and she didn’t have her own mother to turn to for guidance. Just two men, who didn’t exactly have to go through the motions of carrying a pup inside their body. She lifted a hand to rest it upon her lower stomach, as golden eyes lifted to view her mate. ”I’m scared for our pup,” Redd admitted in a soft whisper.

The Mandalorian's hand came up to hold his mate's chin. He eyes her closely before speaking softly to the woman. "Our clan." He corrected her. By the laws of the Mandalorians Redd was as deserving of the clan's protection and aid as Haastal or their children. He wouldn't let her think any differently either.

In the end, Haastal had been correct. Redd went to take her test and it came back to show that she was in fact pregnant. While Haastal was still in shock, he was able to hold himself together a bit more than his mate. She freaked out, something he'd expected. The wolf and the woman were likely at odds once again, meaning her mind was in a fragile state. Haastal took Redd to a medical center that was only available to military. Normally they would not be able to use such a thing, but his short time as the commander of Dauntless had given him a few perks.

He held his mates hand as they approached the door. He'd left his Beskar'gam behind, this time simply wearing a pair of jeans and a black hoodie. Redd turned back to him with her worries. He glanced down at her but simply said one thing. "Redd." He called to her, his voice strong and supportive. He glanced to the door. "Whatever happens behind this door, we handle together." He said, his hand crossing over her back, urging her forward. "Now lets finish this so you can get back to the ship and rest, ok?" He asked. When they went inside the Doctor's office, Haastal was on edge, though he did his best not to show it. He tended to hate Doctors and those connected to him, but for Redd he had to put on a decent appearance.

So he sat beside her quietly as the Doctor applied a warm jelly to her belly. That was when the viewscreen showed the small, miniscule being. Haastal reclined in his seat, smiling softly and content with the faint image he'd seen,

"How wonderful, it looks like you'll be having twins!" The Doctor said with a smile. That was when Haastal's eyes shot open wide.

TWINS

The wolf didn’t know the words of ‘our clan’ when it came to the clan matters of the pack. In the old pack, the children of the mated pair would take the male’s name and it was the male’s family that took care of the pups alone. If something happened to the both, then it would be upon the male’s family to care for the pups that would carry on their name. For the moment that a female mated with a male, the female’s family lost all right to care for that specific relative. It was like severing a tie to create a new one, but the female wasn’t of value to the new family like her pups would be. So Redd didn’t truly understand when he said ‘our’ clan, for she wasn’t a Verd. She was an Astor, like her father. However, in her state the woman didn’t want to argue the specifics of such a thing. Nor did she want to argue the old ways that had been done.

Her pack was dead, it was time that she developed new ways. Whatever they were, she did not know. At least not yet and now was not the time to figure it out as she felt the nerves bundle up within. How could she possibly be a mum? The lupine had only been a pup herself when her parents had been killed; an attack that she herself didn’t fully understand. However, she couldn’t think about such things for the woman was soon focusing upon the comforting tones of her mate. A mate who had been a rock ever since she had found out about her pregnancy and she couldn’t fault him. His hand travelled down her back and she felt soothed by the simple touch which propelled her forwards into the room where they were greeted by a female doctor.

Quietly, the wolf moved to lie upon the bed, while pale fingers hesitated for a brief moment. This was their pup and she didn’t want this so-called doctor poking and prodding at it. So with a low growl of warning that rumbled from the woman, she slowly pulled up the simple shirt of the ensemble that she had paired off with jeans and felt the warm jelly upon her skin. Redd wanted to question the sonographer about everything that she was doing, but instead her golden eyes found Haastal; her mate. He seemed content with the image upon the screen and she relaxed somewhat as she didn’t really recognise as to what was being projected. Was that what was inside her stomach? Redd quietly questioned as she angled her head slightly to the right. Nothing that appeared on the grainy black and white screen made any sense to her and she was about to turn to Haastal to ask about it, when the doctor announced that they were having twins.

”No! You’re wrong!” The wolf exclaimed which was soon followed up with growls of anger. ”No one in my pack has ever had twins. Conceiving has always been a chore due to the past history of inbreeding.” Redd growled as she pondered about whether she should rip out the doctor’s throat for lying. Yet it was the shaking of her head when she cleaned off Redd’s stomach, that caught her attention and she listened to the humming sound of the other woman. “Not a mistake, although we do have here in our system that we need to take bloods from you, Miss Astor. It says here in your medical records that you shook free of your last medical team assigned to you and disappeared.” The doctor said as she turned to her computer and began typing.

Golden eyes shifted to her mate, only for the woman to draw her shirt back down over her stomach. ”Why do they need more blood?” Redd asked as she closed her eyes and lifted a hand to pinch at the bridge of her nose in mild irritation. “There were anomalies. Something similar to the lupine genetics but also different, so they wanted to run more tests in order to confirm their suspicions.” The doctor said as she turned away and rose up to exit the room so then she could fetch the blood drawing kit.

Redd gritted her teeth as she pulled herself up into a sitting position and turned to her mate. ”I have no words.” She said and shook her head. ”First I find out that I’m having twins; which has never been heard of within our pack and now I need to get poked with a needle to get more blood drawn? Please promise me that I won’t be stuck in some lab or caged to be experimented on.” She asked her mate with eyes wide and panicking. If the doctor were to come back in right then and there, the woman was likely to rip her throat out.

BLOOD

Twins.

Deep down in the pit of his gut, Haastal felt like somehow things were not going to get better with this realization. It was one thing to have a child, another thing to have two, and an entirely foreign concept to have two at once. Haastal sighed, glancing over to the Doctor before turning to Redd, placing a hand on her shoulder. "Redd, calm down." He urged her, before listening to the Doctor speak of blood samples. When the man said it seemed that Redd had slipped away from her last medical team, Haastal glanced down to his girlfriend and showed her an expression that said it all. "Let them take the blood tests Redd, whatever we gotta do for the kids, right?" He asked her.

When Redd turned to Haastal, he stood over her with a hand coming up to her cheek. "You know I wouldn't let that happen. All this stuff is normal Redd, you're not in some lab. This is for the babies you got, ok?" He said, leaning down to press his lips to hers, kissing her lovingly.

When the Doctor did finally return some time later, Haastal climbed into the bed behind Redd. He didn't ask, he didn't say anything. Instead he pulled the woman onto his lap, one of his hands wrapping around her waist. When the Doctor walked over to them, Haastal's eyes glanced over to the woman with a careful gaze. "Make it quick." He warned the Doctor. Then he turned to the woman in his lap, kissing the back of her neck softly. "Give 'em your arm, Redd." He told her.

”Easy enough for you to say,” Redd mumbled as Haastal told her to let the doctor take the blood for the sake of their pups. ”You don’t have to be the pin cushion,” She growled softly as her golden eyes glanced to her mate in quiet thought and she felt his hand caress her pale cheek. Slowly, she angled her head into the warmth of the gesture and felt her muscles slowly relax underneath his warming touch, but the nerves were still there bundled up just underneath the skin. Much like her wolf. It was close, close to the surface where it threatened to break free. To kill any and all who dared to touch it and it’s pups. Suffice it to say, the only person who was truly safe from the red beast, was its mate. Haastal Verd.

Although, even he might get bitten from time to time and he had the scars to prove it.

The point he made, was correct and had to be said. Anything that was off with her, would more than likely affect the pups that were growing inside of her. So they had to know, had to make sure that she wasn’t some defective lupine about to carry on defective genes to her pups. With that thought in mind, her chin lifted upwards to meet Haastal’s lips in a kiss that only strengthened her connection with her mate. It was a kiss that flowed with the love that they had not only for each other, but for the life that they had created within the lupine’s body. Whether the event was unexpected or frightening, the kiss only served to quell her fears for a few moments. For she wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around her lover and fall into those arms to make love right there in that room. She didn’t even care if the doctor came back in while they were in the middle of it, because the kiss only served as a reminder of why she fell in love with him.

However, now was not the time for such thoughts as the doctor came back with a kit in hand and Haastal warned the doctor to be quick. A doctor who looked a little sheepish and was soon joined by a nurse. “Well you see…” The doctor began as Redd let out a low growl of warning and felt her mate crawl in behind her. His solid form was providing a wall of comfort in one aspect, but the wolf was also beginning to feel a little caged in by all of this. ”I think I changed my mind about being pregnant.” She muttered but didn’t mean it in the slightest. “Well, it’s nothing to do with your pregnancy ma’am,” The doctor started as the nurse began to lay out the instruments that involved more than a needle and her golden eyes narrowed in on the doctor as she heard her mate telling her to give the doctor her arm.

“We also need skin scrapings, a saliva swab and a hair sample. DNA markers are tricky like that.” The doctor said as she began to prep the needle. ”You better hope, for your sake that all of that is a quick process. Why? Because I’m feeling hungry and I’ve just decided that my doctor looks good enough to eat.” Redd said with a snarl as she reluctantly held out her left arm. Both the nurse and doctor looked at each, almost as if they were questioning their current predicament and if they needed to just get the hell out of dodge. Their patient was, after all, a wolf who was rather violent on a good day. A bad day was yet to be seen and they didn’t want to push her too much, as she was also now carrying pups; pups that they knew she’d be extremely protective of even if she did make remarks about not wanting to be pregnant. The doctor looked at Haastal and then picked up the needle and set about drawing blood from the wolf who was all but snarling at them.

CHILDREN

It seemed these doctors had a death wish. That didn't much bother Haastal. In fact, it was easier for him to say he could care less if they died or not. Of course they had to ensure him that his mate was just fine before they could drift off into oblivion. When they approached Redd again they were met with a low growl that caused them to hesitate. Haastal's free hand came forward to interlace with Redd's in an attempt to calm her.

"Hey, I'm here." He told her with an even tone. He turned to look up at the Doctor before chuckling a bit as he spoke. "Hey doc, I'd make it quick, because if she decides she wants to eat you, ain't much I can do about that." He said, hoping his words would get the man to take the lead out of his ass and move faster.

When the Doctors finally finished their probing, Haastal sighed and laid back against the bed's frame. There was nothing much for him to say, although he did think of something with a chuckle. "Wonder if its a boy or girl..." He muttered in thought. "Which one do you want?" He asked Redd with an interested tone.

LUPO

Haastal’s hand came forward and she felt her skin tingled with the warmth as she felt his fingers interlace with hers in order to calm the rising beast. A beast that wanted nothing more than to shift and sink its teeth into the doctor that clearly didn’t know not to piss her off. With each test, her fingers squeezed his own as she drew strength from the male whose body was pressed up against her back. His voice also seemed to soothe the savage beast as she closed her golden eyes and surrendered deeper into her lover’s arms. The wolf within that lingered just under the skin seemed to retreat and she felt the slight release of pressure upon her temple, of which a sigh of complete content, caressed her lips. That was until the doctor spoke up once again and the wolf was quick to rise up close to skin once again.

“Alright, we have all that we need. I’ll take these to the lab and get the results for you now. Just sit tight,” she said as the doctor and nurse left the room while golden eyes watched both of them leave. ”About damn time, that she left.” Redd said softly with a growl that soon followed and her head angled slightly to listen to her Mate’s words. The question caught her off guard for a moment and she strained to twist her body around. So she scooted forward upon the bed and turned to face her mate. Her legs wrapped around him, while her hands lightly rested upon his firm chest. ”That’s such a strange question, as most wolves within my pack, always wished for a boy. This is because any offspring that a male wolf sired, would then carry on his name. Not the female’s name. Much like if both parents passed, then the children of those parents would go to the male’s family. The female’s family would hold no right over any offspring that she bore. Well. They held no right the moment that she mated.”

It was a simple truth. Even if her parents had been alive, then her cubs would never live within the pack. Why? Because Haastal didn’t live in the pack and they wouldn’t have sought custody of her cubs even in the event of their deaths. Clan Verd would get custody. Such had been the intricacies of their pack. ”My parents had always wanted a boy, but never did. They still tried right up until their very deaths.” Redd said softly as she looked down and pulled her hands away from Haastal, only to rest them upon her lower stomach. At this point in time, in her condition, she longed for her mother. She feared that she didn’t have any maternal instinct within her body due to the fact that she loved to kill. To take life, not create it and it made her worry.

”Haastal… I’m a killer... A beast... A monster... I don’t know the first thing about nurturing life, let alone two lives.” Redd said softly as she looked back up at the male. Her lips parted to say more, except the doctor burst back into the room and an annoyed expression quickly fell back over her face. “Good news! You’re not a lupine!” She exclaimed and the red wolf moved to rise up off the bed with a snarl. ”You lying piece of-“ She started, but was cut off as the doctor held up her own hands and smiled apologetically. “What I meant was, was that you’re not Lupine, but you’re a lupine variant. The technical term of what you are, is Lupo; hence the anomalies.” The doctor explained and Redd sat back, stunned for a moment into complete silence. She didn’t even know if she had the words to express what she was feeling at that precise moment in time.

LUPO?
Tags: Redd Redd

When Redd turned to face him, Haastal slid forward a bit and urged her into his lap. He felt her warm hands on his chest and showed a knowing smile, the same kind of smile that got Redd pregnant in the first place. Still, he didn't let his lust get in the way of listening to what his mate was saying. He couldn't imagine it. The life she talked about seemed foreign even to him, but what could he say in response? His hand came to her chin and lifted her eyes to him. "You know things are different now?" He asked.

"It ain't just you is what I mean." He told her with that same confident smile he usually had. When her hands pulled back to wrap around her own stomach Haastal wasn't sure if he knew what to do.

He was quiet. For one of the few times in his life he didn't know what to say.

When the door came open again and the doctor stepped inside again, what she said nearly sent Redd into a furry. Haastal started to move to stop Redd, but before he could the doctor spoke once again.

Lupo?

"The fuck is a Lupo?" He demanded, looking to Redd with a confused look on his face. The Mandalorian knew very little about the Lupine species in general. In fact, aside from Redd and Aadya Volke Aadya Volke , he didn't know any more of the species. Haastal stood up and looked to Redd. "You know anything about Lupo's?" He asked her.

LUPO

Lupo...

The word seemed to echo inside of her head as she tried to wrap her thoughts around it. The fact that it was a lupine variant made sense as to why her pack would have thought that they were Lupine, but Lupo? A hand rose up to run her pale fingers through her red locks in quiet thought. Could it be true? That they really were not Lupine, but rather Lupo? Was the whole pack Lupo? They would have been... Right?

As she dwelled upon the thoughts, she almost missed Haastal, who asked her about what a Lupo was and golden eyes looked up at the man who had risen up off the bed into a standing position. Her lips parted as if she was about to tell him all about the species, but nothing came out. After a moment, the woman simply shook her head in response, ”I… I honestly don’t know.” She said in a soft voice that was unnatural for her.

There were so many questions that she wanted to ask her parents at that moment and yet, was unable to. Redd had only been a pup when she had cruelly experienced the loss of her pack and everything that she had known; only to be thrown into the fighting pits where the wolf had saved her. Mentally and physically. So she only knew the basics of what she had been told, when she had only been a pup. To know about other lupines had been rare, but to hear about there being a lupine variant or being one; was rarer still. How could anyone wrap their head around such a fact? It was earth shattering news, as it rocked the foundation that she had built upon. It made her question everything that she knew about herself and about her lost pack. If not Lupines then where had they come from and why had they not heard of Lupos before?

The doctor had been silent during the entire scenario and then she offered a small apologetic smile. “Lupos are not exactly something that we know too much about ourselves, as they are extremely rare. So unfortunately, I can not offer anything outside of telling you that you’re Lupo. If you like, we can run some tests and experi-“ The doctor was cut off by Redd’s low growl as she lifted her golden gaze and rose up from her position on the bed. ”You will do no such thing. In fact, you can leave now before I do kill you.” The red wolf said and the doctor hesitated before nodding. “You can have the room for as long as you like,” She said and quickly exited the room. Her actions spoke that she couldn’t leave the room fast enough and when the door closed behind the doctor, Redd’s form visibly relaxed and she turned into her mate.

Slowly, she exhaled as the woman wrapped her arms around the male’s frame and leaned into the comforting warmth of his body. First, she finds out that she is pregnant, but not just pregnant; pregnant with twins and that she wasn’t Lupine but Lupo. It had been one hell of a time and she pulled away slightly only to rise up onto her toes. Redd would then press her lips to Haastal’s own lips in a kiss that sought comfort from the male in the only way that she knew how. Once upon a time, she would have fueled such frustrations into violence, but now she had to find ways that didn’t involve such things. Especially while in her human form. So instead, she turned to physical comfort, comfort which had probably been one of the reasons that had gotten her pregnant in the first place. However, she couldn’t get any more pregnant at this point as she drew upon the mental comfort that such physical closeness gave her.
