SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Reactor-Drawn power supply
  • Near-Silent Operation
  • Self-Repairing
  • Self-Camouflaging
STRENGTHS
  • Atomic Handshake: The OMT utilizes streams of violent neutron radiation, eradicating living things and machinery alike with equal ease.
  • Can-Opener: The OMT's neutron-beam projectiles possess excellent armor and barrier-penetrating qualities.
  • Whisper-Quiet: The OMT's normal operation makes very little noise.
  • Reactor-Powered: The OMT is powered by a miniaturized reactor, allowing it to enjoy a significant ammunition store.
WEAKNESSES
  • Mushroom Cloud: A damaged OMT carbine can react unpredictably, ranging from simply failing to function to detonating in the user's hands.
  • Short Range: The OMT is best utilized within short distances, as its rad-beams begin to lose efficiency beyond a few hundred meters.
  • Pick Your Targets: The carbine features no full-auto setting, as well as a brief cooldown period between shots.
DESCRIPTION

Helix's forces have a time-honored history of creating weaponry that is perhaps more exotic than practical. In truth, there is a school of thought among the Privateers that variety is not only the spice of life, but the spice of death.

Radiation weapons are a constant favorite, inflicting an end that is both reliable and painful. Helix's standard-issue weaponry almost invariably involves the use of highly-radiotoxic chemicals, but seldom has this art been harnessed so expertly as with the OMT.

A squat, boxy little weapon, the OMT is designated primarily for the use of Helix's special forces. It offers numerous distinct advantages over the common troops' phosphor-toxin blasters, and a few hazards of its own along the way.

The OMT's ammunition core is, in fact, a single deliberately-faulty KBR Otherplasma containment unit. Rather than weaponizing the plasma itself, however, the OMT utilizes the profound levels of neutron radiation emitted when a KBR leaks or is damaged.

When triggered, the weapon emits a stream of lilac-tinted, semi-transparent energy from its barrel. This ray of concentrated neutrons excels at penetrating many armors, and inflicting potentially-ruinous harm on the delicate circuitry or organic flesh within. Heavy use of this weapon is all but guaranteed to poison the nearby environment, as its very nature ensures heavy rad-saturation of anything nearby when firing. Despite this, the Rhapsody's normal firing process generates very little noise, save a quiet hiss caused by vaporized water molecules in the air. Being both quite potent at close range and near-silent, it is ideal for the sort of covert wetwork squads that the Privateers send out after anything they don't like.

While accurate enough over short distances, the OMT features no full-auto fire mode, encouraging its users to drop their targets with precise close-range marksmanship. This is partly due to the danger of frequent draws on the KBR's infamously-unstable Otherplasma power source. As such, the weapon remains semi-auto only, and with a fairly low maximum rate of fire.

Most other organizations in the galaxy would consider weaponizing a leaky plasma reactor to be insanity, and for the trooper holding it, it most certainly is. The OMT is almost invariably assigned to droids, as organic troopers would require significant rad protection to avoid being slain by their own weapon. Nonetheless, some flesh-and-blood pirates (particularly those with more bloodlust than sense) can be seen utilizing the Rhapsody.

This device is cruel, indiscriminate, and lethal. Its lethality is not restrained to its intended victims, either. The OMT is notoriously temperamental and dangerous, and malfunctions can be very unpleasant for the user. At best, the OMT might simply fail to fire, leaking truly eye-watering amounts of contaminants into the surrounding area before permanently becoming inoperable. At worst, the user is now holding a miniature reactor that is mere moments from going critical.
