They had long tails prehensile that they used for a variety of tasks such as steering during glides, a rudder while swimming, and an extra digit when climbing or playing. They weren't able to fly, but could glide for long distances on good winds and were very strong swimmers. Intelligent enough to surprise or trap small prey and be trained to use small tools, they were a very popular export from Atrisia as pets. They have since spread galaxy-wide, typically on tropical worlds, and are very popular as pets. In some regions of Atrisia holding one as a pet is considered bad luck but two is good luck. Singularly or in pairs the Atrisian Micro Raptor is relatively docile making great pets but in large groups can be incredibly territorial and dangerous. In these colonies, mates are not fought over but are won by elaborate dances and songs. Eggs are laid in communal nests where several breeding pairs will hatch and raise their young together. Their eggs are typically small enough to be swallowed whole by an adult human.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Sold to human (Atrisian) settlers by the Jar'kai in their early interactions, the Atrisian Micro Raptor is a commonly kept pet throughout the Galaxy. In the early days of colonization, they were seen as a culturally significant part of the world. They were a source of both food and luxurious crafts. They were featured heavily in paintings and architecture. They were first observed and studied by a Coruscanti zoologist prior to the Clone Wars. Upon introduction of Loth Cats to Atrisia, ferals cats almost brought the species to extinction during the rise of Palpatine's Empire. The species was saved by Atrisian initiatives to rebuild their culture which was seen as lost to the Empire. In the current age, they have fully recovered with populations now even being found on the main continents instead of just the islands they were native to. They are still popular pets, especially on Atrisia.
