Name: Jar'Kai
Designation: Sentient
Homeworld: Atrisa
Language:
  • Atrisian
  • Macaque
  • Galactic Basic
Average height of adults: 1.8-2 Meters
Skin color: Pink and light browns
Hair color: Blacks, Browns, and Whites

Breathes: Type I
Strengths:
  • Force Sensitives hold unusually strong connections to the Force
  • Keen Sense of Smell, sight and hearing
  • Able to sniff out natural hot springs from miles away
  • Body built to withstand intense heat and cold
  • Tight muscle structure leaves them thin, but also powerful making them naturally great gymnasts
Weaknesses:
  • Incredibly high metabolism makes it easier for poisons and toxins to run through their bodies
  • Low environmental average lifespan
  • Force Sensitivity is rare
  • Allergic to Kolto
Distinctions:
  • Furry, simian species
  • Red faces with close set eyes and rather flat noses
  • Long fingers and fingernails
  • Racial features
Average Lifespan:
Despite being a long lived species with the potential to live to around 200 years, the average life span of male Jar'kai is 85 years, with females being even lower at 75. This is due to the abduction of young and old alike where they are sold on the intergalactic slave market. They also often live in extreme poverty or die as deniable assassins used by the Inquisitors to continue their secretive lives.
Races:
  • Aboriginals are the closest living relatives to the original species. With snow white hair and fur, and bright pink and red faces they are the legacy of the aboriginal tribes of Atrisia. They are the second smallest racial group of Jar'Kai and are at the bottom of the social ladder, even in Jar'Kai society, though elders regardless of their Racial identity are revered in Jar'Kai society. They are also 45% more likely to die or be kidnapped and sold to exotic slavers by the age of 60 for females and 65 for males.
  • The smallest racial group of the Jar'Kai are the Hidan and can be characterized by their black fur and hair as well as their abnormally large build, compared to the other racial groups of Jar'Kai. In the night and in passing they can sometimes be mistaken for black wookies.
  • The largest, and by far the most populous of the three racial groups are the Han. The Han out of the three racial groups, are more likely to reach higher walks of life and are more likely to not live in complete poverty and most often have service jobs, or rarely, small shops. They are also statistically among the more educated of the three groups, learning to conform to Atrisian culture and often look down on the Aboriginals.
Estimated Population: Several million
Diet: Omnivorous
Communication:
  • Speech
Culture: A general mistrust of Humans and Near-Humans makes the Jar'Kai extremely reclusive and cut off from the Galaxy. They often have no care or say in politics as the struggle for their own rights on Atrisia and within the Atrisia system take precedent over other peoples' well beings. They often live in large communities of other Jar'Kai and are extremely close with one another. Children grow up together and often refer to multiple females as Mother and multiple males as Father, referring to all old people as their grandparents. As children they are spry and energetic, becoming more and more reserved as they age.

Their lives also revolve around old traditions and festivals from times of old, such as the Hot Spring festival where young Jar'Kai are sent on a Hot Spring hunt, or in the case of the city dwellers, a race to the public bath at which there will be lights, food and traditional kimono dress. This is just one of the many festivals that circulate, but there are thousands more, many of which are specific to different groups or regions. Despite the many festivals and holidays the Jar'Kai have, they are not a religious people, though they were in the past.

Jar'Kai culture and society revolve heavily around Hot Springs, especially natural ones, and Public Bath houses. Possibly a remnant of their pre-tribal days, it is where much of the species' socialization happens. Most baths are co-ed where the government will allow it. Outside of these Jar'Kai culture is easily comparable to Artisian culture as most have assimilated the mixed culture as their own.

Technology level: Galactic Standard
General behavior: Generally they act similarly to humans and other sentient peoples. They are not overly hostile, and in fact are mostly slightly meek due to the nature of their history with Humans and other species. There have been, however many who exhibit a more confrontational nature though, most of them being Freedom Fighters or activists for Jar'Kai equality. Outside of their contact with humans and other species they are quite passionate and spend much of their time off from work and duties at social gender nuetral public baths and natural hot springs and are incredibly social within their communities.
History:
The aboriginal people of Atrisia, the Jar'Kai lived in a relative state of peace for thousands of years. Originally a community and warrior based culture, not unlike the Taung, centuries of tribal disagreements and wars between the most powerful clans left the Jar'Kai weak when humans first discovered the planet, making them easy targets for a hostile takeover. An abrupt and bloody war ensued between the Atrisians and the Jar'Kai, resulting in the enslavement of their entire people. They served as slaves for many more thousands of years with several rebel groups springing up and fighting for their people's freedom. However, it wasn't until Artesia formally became a part of the Galactic Republic where Slavery was generally speaking, illegal. However, several millenniums of slavery and cultural genocide left the Jar'Kai with little to call their own, leaving them at the bottom of the social ladder on Artesia.

When the Gulag Plague struck and the Parliament was closed in favor of a new Emperor, the age old practice of slavery was once again brought back and continues in lesser forms to this day. However, despite the horrible history with the people of Atrisia there have been several Jar'Kai of note and it is also evident the effect they had on the Atrisian people as not only was their capitol named after them, but the sword combat style used by the Yovshin Swordsmen as well, which was learned from the fierce but honorable freedom fighters whom utilized dual blades often in combat.

Now however, slavery has once again been abolished though they still inhabit incredibly low walks of life for the most part, though the assassination of Empress Kahoshi and the chaos that has followed for the last six years has allowed a few powerful and influential Jar'Kai into positions as warlords and Shoguns in the countryside, forcing the new Emperor to acknowledge the Jar'Kai and allowing for the possibility of a new, brighter future for the Jar'Kai people.

Notable Player-Characters: N/A
Intent: To provide a hopefully interesting species to the ranks of Atrisia and Asahi

I enjoy this submission, but have a few important notes for you!

These weaknesses are okay.
The last one about education probably isn't one I would consider a species weakness but a cultural one. The extreme connection force needs to be offset by some legitimate weaknesses and more than three in my opinion.

Tag me when you've made this change.

Really liking this sub. Nice work.

One final question. You mention that they are very agile, but what is their strength like compared with humans?

I would expect a thinner species like this to be weaker but more agile. Is that correct?

@mention me with the answer.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, please clarify?

Please give me a comparison, average to average, of their strength and toughness compared to a human.

I understand what you've written, but I just needed clarification on this point.

Above Average, yet still human attainable levels of strength and durability
