OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To work as capable companions for the experienced members of the Knight's Obsidian.
  • Image Credit: Link
  • Role: Knight's Obsidian support unit.
  • Links: Shard Housing Unit, The Confederacy
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Obsidian Squire's
  • Affiliation: The Confederacy, Knight's Obsidian
  • Classification: Combat Support
  • Equipment: Shard Housing Unit
COMBAT INFORMATION
  • Availability: Unique {No more than ten}
  • Deployment: Limited {One unit assigned per individual Knight}
  • Strengths & Weaknesses:
{+} "We are the unseen:" Obsidian Squire's are trained very selectively in The Force. One of the few abilities they are capable of mastering is the art of Force Cloak & Force Stealth. As the Obsidian Knight's utilize the technique and various stealth technology, the Squire's use their mastery of these skills to remain hidden from the enemy, however a Master level Force user can pierce their stealth Even a Knight-level Force user can pierce their stealth if their concentration is divided or falters.

{+} "Your upkeep, our responsibility:" The Obsidian Knight's utilize an advanced set of armor, which benefits from consistent attention and maintenance. The Obsidian Squire's are taught to know the ins an out's of the Obsidian Strike Armor and are capable of advising the wearer on it's repair and upkeep.

{+} "We are the hands that keep you tethered:" Another ability utilized by the Squire's is that of healing their ward's through the Force. Though most are not master's in the art, they have proven to be proficient enough to serve as the Knight's Obsidian's field medics.

{+} "We are the watchers:" The Squire's have a direct link to the HUD of their assigned Knight, making them the ideal scout for the warriors.

{-} "This is our fight, but we are not your warriors:" The Obsidian Squire's are incapable of engaging their enemies. Aside from their abilities in telekinesis they have nothing to be used against an enemy assault and because of this they will not enter combat, even to support their Knight."

{-} "We are still our own:" The Squire's are not droids or AI's that can be programmed into obedience. Each Shard makes his/her own decisions and those decisions may not always align with the Knight's Obsidian.

{-} "We are not the sword, nor the shield:" The Squire's are encased in a Titanium housing unit. Though it is capable of withstanding a minor assault, it is not designed to defend against sustained combat.

Description: The Knight's Obsidian are a unique guardian unit tasked with maintaining law and order within The Confederacy. A unit that utilizes advanced technology and crafty stealth tactics would need something to support their efforts. Originally when it came to the question of who best to support the Knight's, the prospect of using AI was considered. However AI were incapable of assisting the Knight's in the field in the capacity that the Knight's required. While the debate of who was to assist the Knight's was occurring, another event had transpired within CIS space. Somehow, a small colony of Shards had come to amass itself on the planet of Christophsis. The shards are a group of sentient crystals, many of which had a powerful connection to The Force. Arriving in metallic bodies akin to a droid, the shards sought to serve The Confederacy in exchange for safety and freedom in their lands.

The shards, having pledged themselves to the CIS, were tasked to be the supporters of the Knight's Obsidian. To help them accomplish this task, they were provided with new bodies that would better serve them in the times to come. Shedding their droid-like exteriors for more compact repulsor-driven homes they were the ideal companions. The Squire's are selected from the Force Sensitive Shards and are taught select abilities through the Force. Chief among these are the powers of Force Stealth and Cloak, allowing them to be both unseen to the naked eye and remain invisible in the eyes of The Force. Tasked with overseeing the care of the Knight's they are also taught to heal their wounds and attend their suit's, an invaluable ally to have when deployed in combat.

The Squire's are only tasked to experienced Knight's of significant skill, so not to expend them too wastefully and each Shard is unique in it's personality. The Squire's Obsidian are considered full members of the Knight's Order and some of their closest companions.

I could be reading this wrong, but is this a Master-level Force stealth specialist for every single PC Knight? If not, can you specify the level of their abilities, and what rank could be able to see past their concealment?

That's a ton of Masters, some of which also appear to have Master-level healing skills. Pretty hefty follower for every single PC Knight to cart around.

I don't want to be too strict here, so I took a look at the NPC template for some guidance.

"For very powerful NPCs, please keep it reasonable, and remember that an NPC Force Master or elite soldier cannot be assumed to be equal to a PC Force Master or elite soldier in power, skill, or functional immortality."

With that principle in mind, can you specify that PC Masters can pierce the stealth, and PC Knights might be able to if the Shard is using the Force for other things? Does that strike you as a sensible balance?

I edited their first weakness to reflect your request.

I appreciate you being fair and working with me during this submission and i found your reasoning to be completely fair. Please tell me if i need to change the verbage to be a bit more accomodable or make any further edits.

I will need for you either to lose the shard housing unit or to drop the availability to Unique, as Semi-Unique items can only be used by a single small unit.

In essence the KO are a single small unit. At least the one's that will be utlizing these shards. The KO are not an overly expansive order and are not a NPC group by any means. Also the squires are only for experienced KO,

If they are a single unit I will need for you to indicate that by setting the availability to unique. I would also recommend you quantify their limited numbers or at least put a hard cap on them so as to keep the unit in compliance with Factory rules regarding semi-unique items.
