OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a small, embedded shield attachment for armors and droids.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Anti-ballistic
  • Weight: Light
  • Resistances:
    • Energy: Very low
    • Kinetic-Ballistic: Very High
    • Lightsabers: Very Low
    • EMP: High
    • Other unspecified above: Average
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Bubble range: The field extending from the PS-2A is a bubble of around 2.5m in diameter
  • Manually activated: This shield is manually activated by a connection to an armor's HUD or by pressing the top of the system when it'sused as a placement.
  • Intensity: The moment it is activated, the intensity of the shield can be adjusted to accommodate for the amount of projectiles it repulses, by stretching one's hand with the connection and installed magnet and core into the direction of incoming projectiles.
STRENGTHS
  • Ballistic Nightmare: This shield utilizes the electric current of the electromagnetic field to catch and stop any ballistic projectiles such as slugs and rounds at the edges of the electromagnetic field. Though this renders purely analogue rounds useless due to no impact, this is less effective against highly volatile incendiary rounds.
  • EMP resistance: Due to the fact that this shield works with electromagnetism and magnetic fields and electric currents, it is less succeptible to EMP as it would simply negate eachother. However, this will only work against weaker electromagnetic fields.
WEAKNESSES
  • Incendiary rounds: Due to the highly volatile charge of incendiary rounds, the electrical currentmay stop the round itself, but has a high probability of prematuraly igniting the incendiary round's internals.
  • Lightsabers: Though technically, when a lightsaber is thrown or slashed, thrusted slowly at the shield, it will get cought by the currents too, this will mainly affect the user rather than the blade itself. Let's be honest, only an idiot lightsaber wielder will slowly thrust or slash...right?
DESCRIPTION
The increase of slugthrowers and analogue weaponry on the galactic market made the engineers and designers of Nargath Holdings wonder wether or not there would be a market for a specific shield type to combat exactly this type of weaponry. After some research on the subject, there was some concern on creating electromagnetic shield with electrical currents running through the field itself, allowing for the field to actually 'catch' rounds.

Various prototypes had...less than desirable results, with either too small fields being generated, electrical cut outs, or other unwanted and unsavory results which left the engineer's team stuck on several issues. Eventually though, they came to the conclusion that a larger magnet was necessary and that perhaps a casing and a better connection to a central hud was a better option.

Testings of the later models finally yielded proper results, with both DSI rounds, slugs and other stuff being halted at the edges of the electromagnetic field with relative ease at a distance of between one and two and a half meters away from the users. However, during this testing, it was also discovered that the obvious weakness of incendiary rounds would be that those may have a high possibility of exploding prematurely.

A solid kinetic personal kinetic shield. The PS-2A sacrifices much of its energy resistance to practically strictly counter ballistics and other physical projectiles. Its got actionable weaknesses and all of the ratings come out for a well-rounded and balanced submission.

Approved.
