- Carbonite ignition retardation rod
- Kyberslag Refraction Crystal shattercore
SPECIAL FEATURES
- Low Frequency sonic pulse: Where regular Flashbang grenades have a high pitch or high frequency 'bang' upon ignition, the PP-890 has a low frequency pulse or sonic boom, which is much more destructive and thus gives this grenade an edge over standard flashbangs, as it attains a more destructive and greater disorienting endresult than the standard flashbang grenades.
- Crystal shrapnel: The internals of the PP-890 holds a Kyberslag Refraction Crystal shattercore, meaning that a loosely compressed crystal is placed within the grenade at the end of the retardation rod, upon detonation, this crystal will be shattered and its shards will be flung in all directions, while it is absolutely not on the same level as a fragmentation or shrapnel grenade, the idea of being shredded and pierced on a nigh microscopic level may cause non-lethal debilitating damage.
- Volatile 'flash': The mixture of Noxinium B - Phosphor adds a whole new dimension to the idea of a flash, as it combines the blinding flash of the phosphor, but due to the Noxinium B's fuel properties and gaseous nature, this flash is in and of itself of an incendiary nature and may thus further expand and ignite in an oxygen rich environment or neat heatsources, making the very explosion both "flashy" and "fiery" reaching near metal-melting temperatures in the right conditions.
- Communication disruption: armors with built-in sensors for sound and visual acquity may effectively be overloaded in those aspects by a detonating PP-890, as a blinding flash and the low pitch sonic pulse/boom may not only disorient and impair the target, but may also affect the electronics registering the flash and sound.
- Very powerful against crowds or large numbers of assailants/victims
- Provides very good crowd control power
- High destructive capacity compared to regular flashbangs
- Solid build quality and simplistic design
- Sonic boom and blinding flashfire may result in visual, auditory impairment and communication disruption.
- Use without personal protection may result in colateral damage of oneself
- Use without visual and sonic defenses may ALSO result in colateral damage of oneself
- Best not to use in situations where a regular flashbang is more than enough
- do NOT use or store nearby heatsources
Imagine a flashbang with the capacity to kill or maim, this thought was not exactly the first idea to pop into the minds of the engineers of the EnSol division of the N&Z Umbrella Corporation, but when the idea did arose, there was a concensus that perhaps there was indeed a certain use for such a device. After all, when there are riots or rebellions to be quashed, a standard flashbang would only go so far when it came to sending a signal. In a military setting, such a grenade would also have a much more useful function as it could not just disorient and deter an enemy, but could be used to exploit the weaknesses of most military outfits of this day and age, where armors prefer defenses against kinetic and energy weaponry and damage over the potential destructive power of visual and auditory impairment.
Tests had been conducted in laboratories to find the perfect mixture for the ignition material, with the endresult being a 75-25 mixture of Noxinium B (the N&Z's own fuel derivative of Infinium) and white Phosphor. This mixture would not only produce a blinding flash, but an actual flashfire, where the explosion itself could reach a heat of up to 1,200 degrees celsius for a single moment when the flash itself is the brightest, meaning that the very heat could warp and melt metals and other materials in a milisecond (most metals wouldn't exactly melt or warp too much from the short burst of heat, but it could overwhelm protective meassures such as armor and may very well melt off if not incinerate biological flesh and tissue within this very short timespan, resulting in a high lethality rate the closer to the explosion's core a target would be.
The carbonite retardation rod allows for a maximum of eight seconds of time after the ignition has been triggered, giving ample time for throwing or launching the grenade to the desired target with minimal risk of the grenade being lobbed back towards the user. While a kyberslag crystal is attached to the bottom of the rod and only loosely compressed, meaning that this crystal may shatter upon explosion, with miniscule shards piercing or brushing against targets like glass splinters, capable of shredding and piercing soft tissue and causing bleeding, while also being very difficult to remove afterwards due to the small size of the shards.
Considered a rather "dirty" weapon, the PP-890 was already quickly nicknamed the 'Party Pooper' by EnSol's engineers and military testing personel, who feared widespread use of this device might actually be a terrifying idea in the long run.
