OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • City Name: Ny'alotha
  • Classification: Urban center
  • Location: Valley of Rejection, N'Zoth
  • Affiliation: Duskhan League
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: 51% Yevetha, 49% other races
  • Wealth: Medium: Ny'alotha is home to a geothermal power plant, which powers the entire Valley of Rejection, and also houses industries such as clari-crystalline and glasteel, in addition to a casino, but is otherwise not very developed.
  • Stability: Low: Ny'alotha being initially by Yevetha exiles, and, as a result of the Gulag Plague, is home of much of the Yevethan underworld, the city is very unstable, and gang wars are a fact of life in Ny'alotha, especially with warring subfactions fighting along Yevethan and non-Yevethan lines.
  • Freedom & Oppression: Despite the high security risks in Ny'alotha, at least Yevethan feel some freedom from the strict hierarchy of Yevethan society in Ny'alotha that couldn't be found anywhere else on the planet, especially since the residents are primarily outcasts of Yevethan society or non-Yevethans.
  • Description: Ny'alotha is surrounded by mountains on nearly all sides, and its landscape is dominated by a handful of massive structures, several of them are industrial in nature. Although it's located along a point where geothermal energy is viable as a power source, earthquakes rarely cause any significant damage. Life in Ny'alotha can be a little wild, especially given the circumstances under which the residents have come to live in the city. Urban planning in Ny'alotha is also rather haphazard, in which residential and commercial areas are located side-by-side alongside industrial facilities. Nevertheless, Ny'alotha serves as the economic center of the Valley of Rejection, but the seat of government of the Valley still lies in Reject Alley. For this reason, there is an intense rivalry between Ny'alotha and Reject Alley among the residents of both cities.

One of the main and oldest employers of the city, the Maut clari-crystalline works is an imposing structure that manufactures not only clari-crystalline but also glasteel, using local sand and other raw materials. As such it's one of the Yevethan bastions in Ny'alotha gang warfare.

The oldest industrial structure extant in the Valley of Rejection, the Wrathion geothermal power plant uses geothermal energy to power virtually the entire Valley since alternative options, such as solar and wind power, were ruled out. For this reason, it's a neutral point in the city with respect to gang warfare since all sides used it indiscriminately.

The Skitra spaceport is the primary transportation hub in the Valley of Rejection. It features multiple landing pads, with the largest of them being able to handle ships up to 200m in length or width. Also, it features ground transportation from and to the Valley of Rejection and the rest of the planet. However, it remains somewhat marginal in the planet's transportation infrastructure.

The Vexiona Casino is one of the strongholds of non-Yevethan gangs in the city. Law-abiding residents can gamble on pazaak, sabacc and other games in the hundreds of stations and tables available to them. Also held in the casino are gladiatorial events that pit combatants against either each other or against exotic creatures that crime cartels ship in from all over the galaxy.

SECURITY: None The Valley of Rejection being deemed of no value for the mainstream Yevethan society, the city has no officially sanctioned security, making security rackets common in the city.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
During the early days of the Yevethan practice of exiling criminals, Ny'alotha was just an area in the Valley of Rejection, and in the Black Fleet Crisis, it was simply an area where the exiled off-worlders began to establish a settlement and eked out their existence. However, the fortunes of Ny'alotha would change decades after the Yuuzhan Vong attacked, when the reconstruction efforts led to N'Zoth becoming another source of raw materials for clari-crystalline and glasteel production, with Maut being the founder of the clari-crystalline enterprise that still exists today. But in the early days of Ny'alotha as an industrial zone, energy was a concern since the major energy suppliers of the era were unwilling to sell fuel to what they saw as a desert backworld. That changed with an enterprising Yevetha survivor after the defeat of the One Sith, Wrathion, which determined that geothermal power would be able to power the entire Valley.

However, for the centuries to follow, the surviving Yevetha on the planet would still exile their criminals to the Valley, so as a result Ny'alotha was neglected by the local security as well as the Duskhan League at large. This would, in turn, make life in Ny'alotha very dangerous, with gang warfare erupting every now and then, and, due to the xenophobia of the Yevethans, the gangs were mostly aligned along racial lines. During the Gulag Plague, Ny'alotha gangs even attempted to use the Plague as a weapon in their turf wars, but turned out to be a double-edged weapon, which carried even more risk for the innocents caught in the crossfire, on which both groups have come to rely. Also, industrial output in this time was much less than in the second and third centuries ABY.

In post-Gulag era, facilities began to ramp up production as other worlds saw a surge in reconstruction efforts, and N'Zoth glasteel and clari-crystalline was shipped in locations such as Hosnian Prime, while gambling was added in the range of activities as a result of a shift in criminal dynamics in the post-Gulag era. Also, an intense rivalry between the Reject Alley and Ny'alotha erupted among their respective residents during this time.
