PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • UHD Projectors - A series of Ultra High Definition projectors produce a clear and steady overlay of the intended appearance on the wearer.
  • Passive Sensors - Using a small array of sensors, the projected image can reflect changes in the environment (e.g. when it is raining, any projected clothes or hair can appear wet).
  • Speech Modulator - Masking or mimicking the voice of another is as important as visually passing as someone else.
  • Micro-Dispensers - Certain species may emit or detect certain chemical influences that are just as important to a disguise as looking the part.
  • Bio-Sign Generator - Electronic surveillance and security droids would make short work of an expert disguise without an electronic suite able to project the health and presence of expected bodily functions.
  • Force Imprint - In the modern era its important to pass your Force Signature off as someone else as well, otherwise the Jedi, Sith, and other Force Sensitives will make short work of any infiltration. A small Kyber Crystal was included as part of the design to emanate a stored Force Signature or Aura.
  • Power Source - A Micro Isotope 5a Reactor supplies the power needed to maintain such an elaborate apparatus.
  • Power Mask - Stygian Triprismatic Polymer was used to house the Isotope-5A Micro Reactor to prevent it from giving the disguise away with a casual scan for energy signatures.
  • Anti-Tamper - One of the NX Shroud's chief designers was intimately familiar with tampering and included a kill-switch in the event someone attempted to gain access to the internals of the NX Shroud's components. Someone unfamiliar with the location or existence of the tamper switch would find an explosive Isotope-5A Micro Reactor on their hands, and would be advised to vacate the area promptly.
STRENGTHS
  • A Convincing Lie - The NX Shroud was designed to mimic a wide array of attributes of a fabricated or actual person or creature. It was intended to pass even a thorough security screening and allow its wearer -- often an Intelligence Agent -- to move among friends and foes alike without them knowing who was truly watching.
  • A Sustainable Lie - Centuries ago many similar devices could only be worn for short periods of time. Advances in portable power generation, however, allow this unit to be worn for an extended period of time.
  • An Enduring Lie - The projectors and reactor are shielded against ION/EMP interference in case a paranoid person or group blasts guests with such disruptive energy 'just to be safe.'
  • A Personal Lie - Given the dangers the NX Shroud would pose in the wrong hands, an anti-tamper / self-destruct was built in to the unit should unauthorized personnel attempt to access the internal components.
WEAKNESSES
  • A Fragile Truth - While the NX Shroud has been fortified against interference, disruption, and designed to present a stable holo-image over the wearer, it was not built to endure physical assault. Being thrown against the wall probably won't break it, but a solid blow by a weapon or blaster bolt should collapse the projection.
  • A Certain Truth - It is possible to modify the parameters of the holo-image and its attributes projected to the world, but it is not easy to do in the field. Considerable effort and various instruments would be necessary to create a perfect image -- getting a Force Imprint of a target, or a sample of their pheromones, are some of those difficult characteristics to reproduce in the spur of the moment, for example.
  • A Partial Truth - Many qualities of a subject are mimicked by the NX Shroud except one -- taste. Most species' sense of taste is strongly influenced by smell, so in theory the olfactory mimicking dispensers might help pass muster; but given the complexities involved it and the unlikely circumstance you would be licked -- or that anyone would notice the taste was 'wrong' -- this particular sense was not fully reproduced by this unit.
  • A Hidden Truth - More importantly, the wearer should be trained in the art of shielding their thoughts. A Telepath able to read the mind of the wearer would quickly pierce any effort at disguise using the NX Shroud.
  • A Personal Truth - There is no greater weakness in the NX Shroud, however, then its wearer. No matter how perfect the illusion, if the person wearing it cannot pull off the persona of whoever or whatever image they have adopted, those even passingly familiar will likely know 'something is off' drawing the one thing an Agent needs least -- attention.
  • A Silenced Truth - Conditions that suppress, nullify, or cancel Force effects would prevent the Force Imprint mimicry from working as intended, but it would also in most cases provide plausible deniability regarding the wearer's true Force Signature.
DESCRIPTION
Nyx N1X3 has been a part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' clandestine operations since it was called the Ministry of Secrets. Having held various roles as one of their agents, and being a unique model of droid that may be too recognizable for her own good, Nyx decided it was time to create a means of disguising field operatives -- including herself.

While posing as a different model of droid is fairly straightforward, making a unit also worthwhile to her organic counterparts proved a more difficult task. Not only did she need to account for the Five Senses of most species, but also pheromones and electronic scanners, among others. Most could be accounted for, but there were some that seemed so unlikely and the solution needlessly complicated -- such as taste -- that they could not be incorporated in the Mark I anyway.

Able to withstand an electronic device's natural enemy -- ION, EMP, or other forms of electromagnetic interference -- the NX Shroud was not built to take a blaster bolt head-on, survive a lightsaber strike, or endure being deliberately pummeled by a rock. As a tool designed to allow Agents to slip into places they would otherwise be taken prisoner, shot, or had their identity as an Agent discovered, it was not built to 'take a beating' in order to save on bulk and weight.

Should Agents come across -- and survive -- circumstances where the NX Shroud gave away the fact a projection was in use, they are advised to notify Confederacy Intelligence Command as soon as possible. A detailed write-up will ensure any future release of this tool will address unexpected shortcomings, and incorporate the latest technological developments.
