DESCRIPTION

Originally designed to chase down and capture fleeing fighter and support craft. Built for speed and not for durability, for interception duty. Unarmed apart from a pair of small powerful tractor beams. Unprotected apart from a basic shield generator which barely covers the craft and is woefully underpowered. Despite these drawbacks the drone is capable of working in concert to slow down and hold up small capital ships.

Deployed across the New Star League to patrol and interception operations, and a standard use among most of the major and minor houses. Many of these tractor drones have been repurposed as medical evacuators, and are each capable of carrying a single casualty safely and quickly from the battlefield. Arla Susni was credited as the first New Star League officer to adapt the tractor drone interceptor as a medevac unit, a role later officially adopted into NSL doctrine.

Some officers further innovated by using the craft as a deployment vehicle for forward troops, with some limited success. Other craft proved more suitable in that role, as durability is an issue, especially when using the craft as an offensive weapon. Thin shields and thin hull are a design concession to produce such high speed ships.

Arla Susni retains a large number of these craft in her Relief Force, dedicated solely to the medical evacuation role. These are clearly marked as medical craft and are never used in a combat offensive role.
