Originally a New Star League patrol ship, configured for fire and fighter support, laid down as a battle carrier, the Resolute-Class is a full refit, a new class dedicated purely to anti starfighter combat. The original heavy armaments have all been removed in favour of more and many lighter arms. Hangar space and maneuverability have been sacrificed in favour of heavy armour and shields, and a wealth of small and powerful anti starfighter armaments have been added across the reinforced hull.
From bow to stern the Resolute is covered from all angles by multiple batteries of fast firing and powerful guns. These are deadly efficient against many small fast moving targets, but next to useless against the heavy shields of capital ships. Even against warships far smaller than itself, the Resolute is incapable of dealing much damage. Against small craft, however, it spells almost certain doom should they come within its destructive range.
The Resolute is also a worthy fire support platform, though it lacks the heavy punch of capital-grade weapons. In atmosphere, supporting ground units it can nontheless provide masses of light artillery fire suitable for wrecking armoured ground columns and light infantry fortifications. It is best used against enemy forces in the open, as it is ineffective in bombarding heavily fortified and shielded strongpoints.
In its primary role as fleet escort, the frigate is responsible for keeping enemy starfighters at bay, and away from the flagship and the fleet's heavy fire platforms. Usually it does this by creating fields of death, through which even missiles and torpedoes find it difficult to pass through. With several of these ships in unison, a fleet can be provided with effective cover from external starfighter swarms.
