NPC Submission Templates

Status
Not open for further replies.
Provided are the various templates you may use to submit your NPCs through the Codex. If you are unsure of which template to use please feel free to ask for assistance in the NPC Creation Questions thread.

Name: [Also worth including: aliases, ranks, titles and so forth.]
Loyalties: [Faction affiliation? Is he an NPC companion for a certain character? Is she part of a specific military unit?]
Role: [Is she your character's daughter? Is he your squad's sniper, the man you trust on overwatch? Is she your longtime pilot and occasional lover? Is he the Force ghost who appears to give you cryptic guidance? Is he your mortal enemy? Did she put a bounty on your head?]

Development Threads: [Please link to threads where this character has played a role with the FULL NAME of the thread. Not mandatory, but helpful, especially when powerful or skilled NPCs are involved. Master level NPCs will require at least one development thread, the length dependent on their powers and skills.]

Age: [Please keep it sensible.]
Species: [Remember to consult the Banned Species List, and be very careful about how you use banned species which may be NPC'ed.]

Appearance: [Please describe the NPC in at least one paragraph. Any distinguishing marks? Do they show their age? What do they usually wear? For droid characters, link to their production model, either on Wookieepedia or as an approved tech submission.]

Personality: [Please describe the NPC with at least one paragraph. Acerbic? Friendly? Ditzy? Annoyingly calm and superior? What about mannerisms?]

Force Sensitivity: [Choose from: Non-Force User, Apprentice/Padawan, Knight, Master]

Weapon of Choice: [Military blaster rifle? Toy lightsabre? Bioweapons? Wits? The Force?]

Skills: [For Force users if they have any special abilities that are rare list them here. If they are skilled with a blade, for Non Force users have they been trained by special groups?]

Wealth: [Please keep this reasonable, or be prepared to have a very good reason for exceptions. How wealthy are they? Where does that wealth come from? Are they stakeholders in existing corporations? If so, link to them.]

Combat Function: [Combat is difficult to avoid -- after all, this is Chaos. Should your NPC wind up in combat, what would they be good at? How would they work alongside you, or would they be a liability? Please include relevant strengths and weaknesses. The Combat Function line also helps assure us that you won't be abusing this NPC. For very powerful NPCs, please keep it reasonable, and remember that an NPC Force Master or elite soldier cannot be assumed to be equal to a PC Force Master or elite soldier in power, skill, or functional immortality.]

Notable Possessions: [Again, please be reasonable. No holocrons of Force Storm, no private Super Star Destroyers, no canon items unless you've worked for them.]

History: [Please include at least one paragraph on the NPC's history.]

Intent: [State why you are making this submission. Is the character there to assist with faction roleplays, to help train your character, or provide an antagonist for dominions or something else entirely?]

Common are the main backbone units of the army using mainly mass produced items. Uncommon are unusual or less common units sometimes using minor production. Rare are special, elite units using limited production items. Unique are one off variants of the other type which have special features that makes them one of a kind.)

Helpful information for submitting militarized NPCs and NPC Units:

The following was written by [member="Valiens Nantaris"] and edited for content by Silencia.

Name: This needs no further explanation.
Intent: The reason this NPC/Unit has come into existence. What purpose do they serve to the IC community?
Affiliation: Larger groups/units will require larger means of funding and sponsorship. A Tier 2 company should not be submitting an army of 10,000 soldiers.
Availability:
This is one of the more tricky areas. These are the possible variables and what they mean:
  • Common – Any number of these can be used in a battle. These are your stormtroopers, footsoldiers and mass produced troops. They should not be above C quality without good reason, and should be equipped only with mass produced items. Examples: Stormtroopers, Rebel Infantry, mass-produced tanks.
  • Uncommon – These are the troops who are, as it says, less common. These are your veterans, your specially trained troops. These should be of B or C quality and are allowed to have minor production items as equipment. Examples: Unusual vehicle companies, Space or snowtroopers, walkers.
  • Rare – If there are only a few companies or squads of this type in the galaxy this is what they are classed as. These troops are usually of B quality and can have equipment classed as limited production. In rare cases they may be A quality, if the total strength is low. Examples: Dark Troopers, Republic Special Forces (Havoc etc), special command vehicles.
  • Unique – This is if there is only one unit in the galaxy. If they are unique because of their special skills, they will usually be of A quality but can be lower. Examples: Royal Guard, Sith or Jedi squad.
Quality:
Quality is probably the most questioned field, but I will attempt to untangle it. First of all, Quality and Availability usually but not always go hand in hand. A rarer unit is usually better, but at times it could be that there are simply not the resources to maintain a larger amount. A Hutt might have a unique squad of enforcers, but they might be of poor quality. Quality is an overall indicator of abilities. It’s training, equipment, leadership and morale all rolled together. This makes it very important to differentiate between the ratings, as usually only the top 3 will be commonly used.

  • E – Rabble – For fighters with no training or proper equipment at all. This may include rioters, civilians, unarmed prisoners etc. These units are usually of common availability.
  • D – Untrained – This rating is fit mostly for militia, reserve soldiers and antiquated equipment. These units are usually common, and rarely used offensively in combat. This rating is also appropriate for gangs, criminals and other irregular forces.
  • C – Trained – The most common rating. It encompasses the majority of soldiers and other military hardware. Anything mass produced or used as the main strike will be of this quality. This is the baseline for quality; all others are compared to this.
  • B – Veteran – Units which are less common, better armed or experienced are suitable for this class. Commandos, small PC led units and so on qualify here. No common units should be this quality without very good reason.
  • A – Elite – This is the pinnacle for NPC units and thus should be reserved for a very few small units. Units which are B quality can be elevated to A quality after several considerable threads against PC opposition are completed. Units of Force users should almost always be here, and should be limited to very small numbers. A quality units will not be accepted without a dev thread of at least 10 posts depending on how big and special the unit is. A quality units over 100 total strength will not be accepted without very substantial dev threads or promotion from B quality. 500 is the maximum total acceptable.
Type: Ensure that this type is mirrored in the strength; eg make sure that an armoured unit lists the amount of vehicles.

Strength:
This is perhaps the field most mistaken by writers. What this should show primarily is the tactical strength of the unit. The writer should give a total number available and then ideally break down to at least company level. How many soldiers, how many tanks, how many artillery pieces? This is, in many ways, the most important field as it tells other writers how many enemies they can expect to face. Squad and higher level organisation details are encouraged but not required. Number of vehicles is required, as well as the type.

Description: This acts as a history and description in one. Make sure that some details are given, with more elite units requiring larger descriptions. Tactics and doctrine also desirable here.

Links: Make sure all weapons and armour are linked either from factory or canon sources. Special equipment or vehicles likewise require linking here. Dev threads are also linked here.
