FACULTY POSITIONS NOW OPEN​

Arcana Veritas: Institute of Free Inquiry is seeking Masters, instructors, researchers, occultists, duelists, alchemists, historians, scholars, and other dangerously overqualified individuals willing to join its faculty.

Sith are certainly welcome. Being Sith is not a requirement.

Competence is.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Expertise in one or more Force disciplines, academic fields, martial traditions, or specialized sciences.
• The ability to teach without immediately murdering the student body.
• At least a passing respect for scholarship.
• A willingness to work alongside colleagues with wildly different philosophies, loyalties, and traditions.
• Enough self-control to remember that the Grand Arena exists for a reason.

WHAT CAN YOU TEACH?

Faculty may offer instruction in lightsaber combat, martial arts, Force disciplines, Sith philosophy, sorcery, alchemy, artifact studies, history, politics, military theory, archaeology, languages, medicine, engineering, science, cultural studies, or some deeply obscure subject no reasonable institution would ever approve funding for.

If your character possesses genuine expertise and can convincingly explain why somebody should listen to them, there is probably a classroom available.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Arcana Veritas maintains political and religious neutrality within its halls and functions more like a private scholarly society than a conventional academy. Its faculty and membership need not share the same creed.

The Institute maintains a considerable library, laboratories, training facilities, restricted archives, research spaces, and enough security measures to make trespassing an educational experience all its own.

SITH MASTERS ESPECIALLY WANTED

Previous teaching experience preferred. Evil monologues tolerated. Personal philosophical manifestos will probably receive assigned reading status. Rivalries between faculty members are acceptable.

Attempted coups against the Headmaster are considered extracurricular activity and may affect tenure.

Formerly known as Darth Eryndis

Specialty:
Force Studies, Sith Sorcery, Shadow Manipulation, Niman, Practical Force Philosophy, and Investigation of Force-related phenomena.

What do you want to teach?:
I would prefer to teach students how to understand and control the Force without pretending that knowledge becomes harmless simply because we refuse to discuss it.

My strongest areas are shadow manipulation, Sith sorcery and ritual practices, Force artifacts and phenomena, Niman, and the practical application of the Force outside traditional combat. I would also be comfortable teaching courses concerning the differences between Jedi, Sith, Dark Jedi, and other Force traditions, particularly how philosophy influences the way someone approaches and uses the Force.

I am not interested in creating Sith. I am interested in making certain students understand what they are dealing with before curiosity encourages them to experiment without guidance.

Why should we hire you?:
Because I have made enough mistakes to recognize several of them before someone else makes them.

I have lived within more than one philosophy concerning the Force and eventually discovered that accepting another person's answers is considerably easier than deciding what you actually believe for yourself. Students will encounter teachings, artifacts, individuals, and experiences that challenge whatever they were taught before arriving here. Telling them simply not to question those things will not prevent curiosity.

Teaching them how to question safely might.

I also have considerable patience, which I have discovered is useful when dealing with ancient texts, temperamental plants, complicated rituals, and people.

I assume students occasionally resemble at least three of those.

Relevant Experience:
Former Jedi training and subsequent extensive Sith training, eventually attaining the rank of Sith Knight and the title Darth Eryndis.

Experienced practitioner of Sith sorcery with a particular specialization in shadows and related manifestations of the Force. Trained extensively in Niman and lightsaber combat, with practical combat experience against Force-sensitive and non-Force-sensitive opponents.

I have studied ancient Force traditions, rituals, artifacts, ruins, and locations affected by unusual Force phenomena. My experience has frequently involved determining whether something should be studied, contained, destroyed, or simply left alone.

I have also spent considerable time learning independently after leaving established Orders. That experience may be particularly useful for students who do not fit comfortably within a single tradition.

Anything the Headmaster should probably know beforehand? / Potential Liability:
I am a former Sith.

I still practice techniques traditionally associated with the Sith, including sorcery and shadow manipulation. I do not believe knowledge itself requires allegiance to the philosophy that developed it, but I recognize that others may disagree.

My lightsaber is real.

My experience with dangerous artifacts is extensive enough that I occasionally investigate things other people sensibly avoid.

I have no intention of converting students to Sith philosophy, establishing a secret cult beneath the school, overthrowing the Headmaster, summoning anything from another plane of existence without permission, or sacrificing students for ritual purposes.

The fact that several of those apparently need to be stated beforehand is mildly concerning.

Otherwise, I believe I am reasonably employable.
