Novaius Dracks [Tobias Dracks]

The passage of the amended Alpha-32116 “Enhanced Core Security and Protections Bill” had just been made. Passing with six votes to four against it seemed that the bill itself was not very popular, and least not certainly with the Humbarine Council, who had made it clear to their representative that they did not want it to be passed for very selfish reasons. Personally Ella was happy that the bill had passed. It meant that the New Republic would expand and grow to encompass many worlds than it currently had. But with her own government having their issues with it's passage, and it's lack of popularity in the Senate (albeit passing with a majority), Ella had recognised an opportunity that she was keen to take up.

Still sitting in her booth on Carida, and with the Senate session about to end, Ella made her move. Reaching towards her computer console, which she had just used to vote on the bill, she begun to type an invitation.

To Vice Chancellor Tobias Dracks,

Greetings, Vice Chancellor. Congratulations on the passage of the bill. I know that there will be some furious governors on Humbarine that will be extremely unhappy with it's passage, but this is a democracy, and following the recent incursion that the New Republic handled with the Jen'ari, I am sure that Humbarine is still in safe hands. However, I believe that there is a way to keep the Council happy. With the passing of this bill a new committee will need to be chosen and put into place. Whilst my people will be furious with it's passing I believe their feelings can be elevated with the knowledge that their representative was sat on that committee.

Since we first spoke during the Jen'ari incursion I have been meaning to meet with you privately, as I have no doubt that you have been meaning to do the same. As well as discussing the committee it would be a good thing for the two of us to meet, regardless of the bill and who is elected to stand on the committee, as we will no doubt be debating politics together for many years to come. I am sure that the two of us can develop a cordial, professional and friendly relationship as the New Republic continues it's progression, and that can start later on tonight in my senatorial chambers.

I am leaving for Humbarine first thing tomorrow morning. I hope to see you before my departure.

Regards,
Senator E. Nova of Humbarine.

Pressing the send button, Ella rose up from her seat and begun packing her things before departing the Senate hall, heading to the chambers that had been given to her during her time on Carida.

-- Tobias was just about the doors of the Senate Chambers when he received a communicant from his Data-Tablet. Thinking to himself he lifted his hand to stop his Senate Guard Escort. It was probably Admiral Charr wanting to discuss some of his more radical changes to the Republic Navy. He was a close ally to the Jedi and it made him somewhat uncomfortable with having so many strong Pro-Jedi within his military forces. The Provisional Government Representatives agreed with him, it was too bad all of them were voted out of office and replaced with those that seemed more in line with Pro-Jedi views. At least from his view point.

-- Lifting up the Tablet and opening his emails he was rather surprised to see it was from Senator [member="Ella Nova"]. Someone he considered very close to the Jedi Cause, and in the recent vote someone who held the view points of the Doves. Reading it he was interested by her comments, he had lost all his allies in the Senate at the moment, he could really only trust the Senator of Balmorra and of the Capital. They both were Remnant Loyalist and served the Republic since the Hutt Campaign. He finished it and nodded, and sent a response to the women.

Dear Senator Nova,

-- I would greatly appreciate the chance to speak with you later this evening. The scolding I had given the Humbarine Council about that particular incident most likely already made me unpopular with them. I can meet for a short discussion this evening before my meeting with the Diplomatic Corp and Treasury Department. Please Expect me in short time at your offices.

-- He looked to his Senate Guardsman, "Gentlemen, we will be making a detour, I will be meeting with Senator Ella Nova, please inform command of my change of schedule."

-- The men nodded and they started to head in the direction of the office of the Senator. Walking along he thought to himself, the War Oversight Committee did need to be chosen sooner rather then later. Support of the War Hero of Commenor and the current Figure Head for the Republic Remnant would grant a seat as such. The only thing he could think of was why someone who opposed the bill was wanting to sit on the committee. He did not care for it too much, Generals Halle, Commandant Corek, and Admiral Charr would do whatever they liked in his mind, so long as it did not drag the name of the Republic through the dirt. They were all capable men, yet they would have to realize that the Senate was a body they needed to listen to. Maybe having someone that opposed the bill would be a good balance for those more War driven to finally be reigned in.

-- By the time he came to this conclusion he was at the door of the Senator, he knocked. "Senator, its Tobias Dracks," He walked in as the door opened and waved off his guards to stand at the door. "I was pleased to get your message, that incident with your planet and those Sith was in bad taste and I hoped we could speak, how are you?"

Ella was seeing to the flowers that she had been given by Elias Tenbar, the governor of District Twelve from Humbarine, when Tobias entered her chambers. Lowering the water dispensary she had been using to see to the plants, she turned to greet the Vice Chancellor and bowed her head respectfully when he finished his introduction. "I am well, thank you. Please make yourself comfortable."

Gesturing to the seat across from her desk, Ella turned and lowered herself onto another opposite from Tobias. Reaching forward she poured a cup of water for both herself and her guest, lowering the jug before reclining back in her seat with an expectant look. "I am sure that you are pleased with the passing of the Protections Bill. I am sure that when the rest of the Core discovers that the New Republic intends to help them it will make for an easier transition when they undoubtedly apply for membership. I tried to explain this to the governors but they were incessant on the bill being upheld until they were satisfied that Humbarine has better protection, as they are still- for lack of better word- jittery after the Jen'ari incident."

-- He accepted the seat from Senator [member="Ella Nova"] and looked a here as she explained her situation. The bill was not of his choice, it was an attempt of the Hawks to force their position in Senate as the Majority Party. The Bill was not something new, the Military had done this since the inception of the Republic Remnant, but the Hawks would take pride in their ability to pass the law. He cared very little for the Bill, as it was up to the Military Chiefs to decide where the military went in the end.

-- Tobias picked up the water and took a sip before setting it back down. He continued to listen to her and nodded before tapping the table. "The Bill does show the galaxy that we are willing to protect our close allies that was effected by the attacks of the Imperials," He leaned back in his seat, "However, this statement along with our recent outburst against the Sith during the Liberation of Commenor defiantly shows the Republic as picking one side over the other, and we only wait to hear what the Imperials respond with."

-- He slowly nodded twice before blinking slowly, "I do not blame you for voting the way you did, at the end of the day you have to face your constituents so it may sometimes go against your personal beliefs, as one who does not have a vote over the Republic I can only steer the opinions of my colleges for the betterment of the Republic, and I only hope that this Bill shows other nations to join the cause."

Ella nodded her head in agreement. "I am sure, knowing the Humbarine Council, that their opposition to the bill would be lessened if it turns out that their representative was to be given a seat on the committee. Personally, I feel that it is the duty of the New Republic to aid and assist the Core, as it was there where the historic constitution of the Republic was first established all those many eons ago. It was because of the sacrifice that the worlds in the Core made that the Sith did not completely eradicate the Republic, and as a founding member of the Republic, Humbarine should not forget what her brothers and sisters did for them. However, the Council is, for lack of better word, blind to the history and focused on the now, whence their opposition. Like any of the governments represented in the New Republic they are concerned with their people first, and allies second."

"Regardless of how my constituents feel, the Protections Bill has passed and I assume that once the 4th and 5th are mobolised to begin their patrols we will face new challenges going forwards. As I said beforehand I believe that if I were to be put onto the committee it would elevate the concerns that they have. Plus, I believe it would be a good thing that at least one of the seats be allocated to the opposition. I also think it wouldn't hurt if a former Jedi was on there as well. I can act as the buffer between politics and military actions. There are little in the Senate who understand what needs to be done when the military needs to be organised. I am uniquely qualified for the role."

-- He listened and it seemed that the Senator was making a play for the Oversight Committee. He only entertained the thought in his mind and played it out. While he sat there in quite for a second he nodded.

-- Tobias started, "From the looks of it the votes you need to get on the Committee would be from Arkania, he leads the Hawk Party and since you opposed his bill he would not agree to vote for your candidacy," He pulled out a Data-Pad and wrote something out. "That damn Machine Breather has been pestering me to get the Pharmaceutical Privacy Policy Passed since he took office, probably because Adasca BioMechanical is pushing for some new Patent I am sure, however, you support the approval of this bill and the Hawks will fall into line."

-- He wrote the last of the Email out and continued to talk on, "From what I know of the Room I am sure the Senator of Kuat and the new Senator from Rendili will be your committee members, though with out much Kuat is lobbying they will get the chair seat, but I am still unsure how it could all work out."

-- The man finished up the email and looked at the Senator, "I told him to get his house in order and support the only nations that could buy the drugs from his planet, though I am sure he will be upset now Hawk will be sitting on the Committee but I will give him a seat in the Foreign Affairs Committee next session."
