The passage of the amended Alpha-32116 “Enhanced Core Security and Protections Bill” had just been made. Passing with six votes to four against it seemed that the bill itself was not very popular, and least not certainly with the Humbarine Council, who had made it clear to their representative that they did not want it to be passed for very selfish reasons. Personally Ella was happy that the bill had passed. It meant that the New Republic would expand and grow to encompass many worlds than it currently had. But with her own government having their issues with it's passage, and it's lack of popularity in the Senate (albeit passing with a majority), Ella had recognised an opportunity that she was keen to take up.
Still sitting in her booth on Carida, and with the Senate session about to end, Ella made her move. Reaching towards her computer console, which she had just used to vote on the bill, she begun to type an invitation.
To Vice Chancellor Tobias Dracks,
Greetings, Vice Chancellor. Congratulations on the passage of the bill. I know that there will be some furious governors on Humbarine that will be extremely unhappy with it's passage, but this is a democracy, and following the recent incursion that the New Republic handled with the Jen'ari, I am sure that Humbarine is still in safe hands. However, I believe that there is a way to keep the Council happy. With the passing of this bill a new committee will need to be chosen and put into place. Whilst my people will be furious with it's passing I believe their feelings can be elevated with the knowledge that their representative was sat on that committee.
Since we first spoke during the Jen'ari incursion I have been meaning to meet with you privately, as I have no doubt that you have been meaning to do the same. As well as discussing the committee it would be a good thing for the two of us to meet, regardless of the bill and who is elected to stand on the committee, as we will no doubt be debating politics together for many years to come. I am sure that the two of us can develop a cordial, professional and friendly relationship as the New Republic continues it's progression, and that can start later on tonight in my senatorial chambers.
I am leaving for Humbarine first thing tomorrow morning. I hope to see you before my departure.
Regards,
Senator E. Nova of Humbarine.
Pressing the send button, Ella rose up from her seat and begun packing her things before departing the Senate hall, heading to the chambers that had been given to her during her time on Carida.
