Intent: A versatile droid, built to be the “infantry” of the battlefield.

Manufacturer: Blackstar Industries

Model: NMBD-1

Affiliation: Open Market

Modularity: None

Production: Mass-Produced.

Material: Made from 100% Durasteel.

Classification: Fourth Degree

Weight: 55kg

Measurements: 1.3 metres long, .4 metres wide (1.1 metres with heli-blades deployed) .3 metres high

Movement: Repulsorlift, Dual Retractable heli-blades. Max speed on ground: 300 kilometres/hr. Max speed in air: 215 kilometres/hr.

Armaments: Six NMSM-2 Autoblasters, one for each side of the craft. Four plasma rockets, fired from underside.

Misc. Equipment: Six audio and visual sensors, one for each side of the craft. Targeting system. Blaster Shielding

Description: Humanoid and Pedal-based droids have been the standard for battle droids filling the role of infantry for centuries. Yet one doesn’t need to be an expert in robotics or combat to see its flaws.

The humanoid shape grew from evolution. Our brain is in our head, our vital organs in our torso, and so on. But droids do not need such limitations. Why place vital functions and sight in the head, when they be just as easily placed in the torso, under a thick sheet of armor? Upright torso is a much easier to hit, so why not have a condensed body? Why have arms and legs, when hover craft has been perfected? Fine manipulation claws have been implemented in factories galaxy-wide, why not in droids?

You get the idea. The quintessential idea of a battle droid is flawed.

Other, past models have tried to rectify this. Droideka are one example. But no model has ever been designed to the specifications we at Blackstar Industries find satisfactory.

And thus, we are proud to present a new breed of droid. One that is designed to take the role of infantry, while not being constrained by the arbitrary limits of military conservatism.

Introducing the NMBD-1, the galaxy’s first versatile infantry droid.

Built to travel across all types of terrain, be it wild or urban, the NMBD-1 is a sleek, but powerful design. Its movement is based on repulsorcraft, allowing it to easily skirt across all types of terrain. It is capable of low-altitude flight with its retractable heli-blades, allowing it to reach altitudes of up to 35 meteres. These heli-blades are capable of dynamic tilting, allowing the droid to move three-dimensionally with minimal loss in movement speed when changing direction.

Its sensors being located all around its chassis allows it to sense targets coming from the front, below, to the side, and behind. It can effortlessly switch direction while moving, and accurately fire at targets up to 200 metres away! These sensors can be modified to include functions for security purposes. For example, its facial recognition software inherent in its friendly-fire targetting system can double as a security scanner.

Should it become necessary for the drone to interact with small objects, or in highly urban environments, a set of six fine-manipulator claws, three for its front, three for its underside, can retract to manipulate fine objects with the surgical precision normally reserved for surgical droids.

Its sleek and agile form not only make it extremely difficult for even the latest targeting computers to hit, but its internal combat programming encourages a great deal of movement during combat, to confuse enemies and make returning fire against it even more difficult.

Should any fire actually reach through, the blaster shields on each model are more than capable of stopping small arms fire until it is able to make a quick escape. Should its shields fail, its curved durasteel and heat absorption pads are designed to dissipate the heat energy of blaster weapons, causing them to do less damage. Sustained small arms fire will eventually break the droid down, and most heavy weaponry is capable of penetrating its defences, so armor support is recommended for serious engagements.

And last, but not least, is its plasma rockets. With four missles loaded, this weapon is capable of firing a powerful guided rocket onto targets from a chamber on the underside of the craft. These rockets are devastating to clustered groups of infantry and single targets behind cover, allowing this drone to double as a light bomber.

Is this a canon weapon or submitted one?
Submitted, my apologies. I want to put my own model of blaster rifle on them, but I was waiting to get this droid approved before I moved onto to having my small arms ideas approved. The blaster rifles themselves aren't terribly unique, just a blaster rifle that's capable of three-blast bursts, or a short period of automatic fire.

Is the blaster already an approved sub? I don't need one, just if you're using an already-approved submission I need it hyperlinked there. If not, that's fine and you're good on that.

Oh, no, I haven't submitted it yet. I plan to in the future, but not right now.

Everything is okay except this is a bit loaded on weaponry at mass production. I'll need a drop in either or both of the two weapons (Like down to 4 Autoblasters and 8 rockets, or some other combination that has the same proportionate effect) or production dropped to limited. You can do a 10 post development thread (and keep everything as-is) to retain minor production, but this is a bit much for a mass production droid that is just barely over 1 meter long/wide.

Very well. The blasters being on each side is somewhat crucial, so I will reduce the number of rockets to 4. Will it pass muster for mass production, given that change?
