Character Nikolai Cridu

Student of the Living Force

  • Species: Human
    Rank: Padawan
    Age: 27 GSY
    Weight: 169 lbs
    Eyes: Blue

    Name: Nikolai Cridu
    Faction: The Hidden Enclave
    Homeworld: Gannaria
    Height: 5'11"
    Hair: Brown
    Force Sensitive: Yes

    Appearance: Nikolai's soft features, ready smile, and reassuring gaze make him appear approachable - or make him look like an easy mark, depending on who's watching. His voice is warm and calm, but there is a firmness to it as well, a self-assurance that proves he will not be made a victim. The young man is in excellent physical shape, muscular without being musclebound, and there is a healthy blush to his skin. His eyes are alert but kind, offering empathy even as they observe and investigate. Nikolai favors simple, loose clothing that allows for a good range of movement and draws little attention.

  • ++ Quick to Learn
    ++ Empathetic Mediator
    ++ Strong Force-Sensitivity

    Nikolai is bright and perceptive, easily picking up new skills, languages, and techniques. As a result, he has a wide range of talents, and usually only needs to watch someone do something once before he can do a pretty good job of replicating it. His greatest gift, however, is getting along with people. He can easily defuse tense situations, and when he finds himself in a disagreement, he uses calm, reasoned arguments to resolve it. He is always willing to listen, learn, and admit when he's wrong. All of this is bolstered by a strong connection to the Living Force, allowing him to feel the emotions and even sense the thoughts and knowledge of others.

    -- Pacifist
    -- Late Trainee
    -- Sense of Obligation

    As a follower of the Living Force philosophy, and since he is deeply influenced by the Tyia tradition, Nikolai does not believe in taking lives. Although he will fight if he must to protect the lives of others, he does everything he can to avoid violence. This often puts him at great personal risk. He also feels a powerful need to become a better person and prove worthy of the gifts he's been given, which drives him into dangerous situations over and over again. A latecomer to training in the ways of the Force, Nikolai lacks the long years of preparation that traditional Jedi Padawans receive. He must work hard to develop the same level of focus and discipline.

  • The isolated world of Gannaria is, for the most part, well removed from galactic affairs. Nikolai's childhood there was sheltered; his parents, hardworking local doctors, did their best to secure him an excellent education and opportunities to safely explore the world. The boy excelled in school, but remained deeply naive. He had no idea that his planet's government was utterly corrupt, its politicians bought body and soul by drug cartels that had grown fat on the narcospice trade. The veil was ripped away, however, when the First Order occupied the sector, sending its military to root out the crime syndicates and restore the rule of harsh, rigid law on Gannaria.

    Although daily life on his homeworld was in many ways safer after that, Nikolai was still disturbed by the violence. Friends and neighbors were "disappeared" when their beliefs conflicted with the First Order's agenda. Seeking to get away, the young man attended New Habat University on Varunda IX, where he studied history and political science. Again he was an excellent student, going on to obtain a graduate degree with high honors. He was also deeply influenced by the Tyia philosophy that so many of Varunda IX's people followed. Wanting to do something useful with his life, he became a teacher, trying to impart strong values to the next generation.

    The First Order faded, and new governments rose. It made little difference in Nikolai's day-to-day. He was a good, hardworking teacher, but he felt something was missing from his life. He felt something deep inside himself, a connection that was only just starting to unfurl within his heart. He began to dream of the connectedness of all life, and to envision how he could be a part of something more profound. Abruptly leaving his old job behind, he dropped everything to follow those visions. It was there, at the galaxy's edge, that he found new teachers of his own: the Hidden Enclave, a reclusive Jedi sect devoted to the pacifist ideals of the Living Force.

    With the Enclave's guidance, Nikolai began to discover his own deeper potential...
