STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:

  • Rear Hangar Bays: The hangar bays aboard Nightingale ships are situated towards the rear of the vessel, near the engines. This allows for the vessel to provide forward and broadside covering fire for fighters, which can deploy and strike at ships rapidly from their origin.
  • Concentrated Fire: The design of the Nightingale allows for extreme amounts of firepower to be focused forward, giving it the ability to blow through formations of smaller ships.
  • Multiple Targeting Computers: Along with its concentrated fire, the weapon emplacements across the Nightingale are divided into sub groups, each with its own dedicated targeting computer. This allows the Nightingale to target and fire on numerous targets at once. There are also several minor "bridges" for the larger groupings of weapon emplacements, allowing for them to take over in case the bridge is lost.
Weaknesses:

  • Tank: With the heavy reliance on weaponry, armor and fighter support, the Nightingale is not able to match speeds with other ships of similar size. It also cannot maneuver well, limiting its ability to take evasive action.
  • High Crew Requirement: With the increased number of hangars, and the numerous targeting computers the Nightingale sports, it requires a larger crew compliment, limiting the number of ground troops it can carry at any time. Also limited space for marines, minimizing its ability to defend against boarding parties.
  • High Maintenance: With the numerous separate control stations, and sheer volume of components needed to keep the ship fully functional, raising the cost expenditure on the ships. Having large numbers of these ships in a single fleet is extremely difficult on upkeep.
  • Exposed Engines: While they are heavily reinforced with layered shielding, there are few defense turrets located near the engines of the Nightingale. They rely entirely on their fighters to protect this section.
  • System Failure: Due to the sheer number of targeting computers and redundant bridges across the Nightingale class ship, system failures are much more common and dangerous. A single failure in one of the targeting groups could cause a feedback throughout the rest of the ship. While not enough to cripple the vessel, it is enough to disrupt its offensive capabilities for a time. Ion weaponry posses a higher risk to this vessel as such.

Description: The Nightingale is a ship designed to operate in large fleet settings, or in small patrol fleets. As such, it has large amounts of consumables on board, able to keep the large crew compliment fed for roughly six months deployed if needed. Due to the numerous sub systems the Nightingale sports, it has a higher than average crew compliment for a ship its size. The need for more crewman limits the number of ground troops the ship can carry, and it regularly carries none at all, instead focusing exclusively on space requirements.

With the numerous overlapping shields aboard the Nightingale, a portion of the Aspis class shields have been modified and converted to cancel out Ion energy.

Many ship systems come from Lucerne Labs, a company that has ties to the SJO.

Limited Ion Shielding
Are these Aspis shield systems that have been reconfigured to stop ionic attacks? It's possible to do this with any sort of standard ray shielding (though they then lose all ability to stop traditional laser/turbolaser bolts). Canon ion shielding is another option here.

LLT-6 Zephyr Hyperdrive
Regrettably, the Zephyr is explicitly designed for smaller ships (20 - 600 meters long according to its submission). There is little in there though that can't be gained from using or adding canon technology to this design (like the HIMS). There may be other SJO-affiliated or friendly companies that have special hyperdrives that you can use if you so desire. I'd ask in the Discord factory chat there if I were you.

Overall, this is a little too overpowered in terms of ratings right now (we're about two rating too high). You can lower ratings from wherever you'd like, reduce production, or add significant weakness(es) to help balance this out.

I lowered the production quantity, changed the hyperdrive, and added another weakness to the ship. And for the Ion shielding, some of the Aspis shields are to be changed to help deal with this threat, though a majority of them are left the same. This is where the overlapping shields come into place.

You may want to change this to "Nightingale-class Battle Carrier" (or whatever you're calling the ship model/class).

Since this is a nonstandard modification, if you could mention that somewhere within the description itself please.

I probably should clarify something. When a weakness is being added to balance out an extra rating, it needs to be something that is readily exploitable in most circumstances (like not having shields), or be something that is exceptionally severe in consequences in the right circumstances(that thermal exhaust port in the Death Star). While all of your weaknesses on the ship are valid, none of them are currently at the level to balance out that increase ("tank" would, but that's also a reflection of its low maneuverability and speed used to gain increases in armament and defense).

If there is a certain area or particular idea that you'd like to think about turning a weakness, let me know. Otherwise, the easier option a lot of times is to simply reduce one more rating or low production more.

I added the portion into the description. Lowered maneuvering another rating.

Speed Rating: Extremely Low
At this time, we can only use ratings explicitly listed in the template (this is for standardized comparison). If you're change this to "Very Low", we should be good in terms of balance.

With production and ratings solidified, there is only other thing to address:

Affiliation: Silver Jedi Order Production: Limited
At this time, "Limited" production needs to be more narrowly focused than a major faction. I'm going to quote the template:
Production: The scale is Unique (Only One Character), Semi-Unique (Maximum of 10 characters), Limited (Only one small group of characters. IE: Small task force, not entire factions.), Minor (Large groups of characters. (IE: Multiple factions, companies, or groups.), Mass-Produced. (Anyone.)
In this instance, my recommendation would be listing a specific fleet or task force within the Silver Jedi.

Edited and changed accordingly.

Manufacturer: Silver Engineering Corporation
If you'll put Silver Jedi Order in parenthesis behind this or link "Silver engineering Corporation" to the faction page please. Technically, all companies need to be linked to their company submissions, but major factions do not. So while In-character, the "Silver Engineering Corporation" is company that is a branch of the Silver Jedi, for our Out-of-character purposes, it's the major faction.
