  • Lingering Flame Charge: Upon detonation, the mine releases a volatile surge of alchemical plasma fire that clings to starship hulls and structural components. This flame resists standard extinguishing efforts and continues to gnaw through armor, creating a persistent hazard that lasts beyond the initial explosion.
  • Sensor-Soot Saturation: The explosion disperses a fine alchemical particulate, infused with sith runes, that clogs and embeds into sensor arrays, lenses, and electromagnetic receivers. These particulates generate visual distortions, spurious thermal trails, and sensor ghosting, creating confusion in enemy targeting systems and delaying accurate battlefield assessments.
  • Battlefield Deployment Timing: Unlike static mines, the Netherflare is designed to be dropped in the middle of an engagement, including during retreat or aggressive maneuvers. Its responsive deployment mechanism enables heavy fighters like the Gorvahn-class to scatter mines in pursuit corridors or combat hotspots, forcing enemies into flame-laced kill zones mid-chase.

  • Lingering Damage Effect: The alchemical fire produced by the Netherflare clings to impacted surfaces and continues to burn long after the initial blast. This makes it especially effective at softening armor or weakening hull integrity prior to a second strike.
  • Sensor Disruption Field: The release of sensor-soot particulates clouds enemy optics, radar, and thermal detection. The mine mimics fleet debris and fluctuating heat signals, making targeted response more difficult and forcing hostile systems to recalibrate.
  • Ideal for Mid-Combat Use: Unlike traditional mines that require pre-placement, the Netherflare is tailored for dynamic battlefield use. Heavy fighters can drop it into active combat zones, turning aggressive pursuit into a fatal misstep.

  • Delayed Kill Capacity: The Netherflare is not designed for immediate destruction. Its damage is spread over time, and heavily armored targets may endure long enough to retaliate unless follow-up strikes are coordinated.
  • Environmental Dispersion: In atmospheres or volatile magnetic fields, the soot particulates may disperse prematurely. This reduces the mine's sensor disruption effectiveness in certain planetary or ion-rich environments.
  • Nullification Vulnerability: Proximity to Force Nullification will suppress the alchemical flame's clinging effect. In such cases, the mine functions more like a low-grade plasma incendiary rather than a persistent hazard.

The Netherflare Mine Mk. I was born from a growing need for real-time area denial and hull attrition weapons usable mid-battle by the Kainate's elite starfighter squadrons. Developed in Malsheem's inner foundries by Sith alchemists and Shadow Mind engineers, the mine combines slow-burning volatile compounds with sensor distortion techniques drawn from ancient battlefield illusions.

When deployed, the mine affixes to local gravitational anchors and detonates upon proximity or timed trigger. The explosion unleashes a surge of virulent plasma flame, refined through immersion in Immolation Resin and an Abyssal Ember Core, that latches onto hull plating like a living inferno. It spreads across surfaces in streaks of black-orange fire, gradually chewing through structural layers and system housing. Simultaneously, a cloud of sensor-soot disperses through the surrounding space, embedding into visual and electronic apertures. For pursuing ships, this creates a field of false targets, decoys, and unreadable interference.

It is not a weapon of dramatic spectacle but one of grinding attrition and disorientation. Pilots navigating through Netherflare zones report blurred vision, corrupted readouts, and a creeping sense of vulnerability as flames lick their hulls. Designed for use by heavy fighters such as the Gorvahn-class, the mine allows strike craft to create temporary "no-fly zones" behind them, hampering pursuit and softening enemy lines.

While ineffective in nullified zones, the Netherflare has become a favorite of Kainate fighter wings for its ability to turn the flow of battle, not with overwhelming force, but with the relentless, choking crawl of fire and fear.
