DESCRIPTION

"There are two reasons why we have to wear armour. One is so that we don't get killed too easily. The other is so that we all look Mandalorian, however different we may be from our brothers and sisters."
- A Mother teaching their Daughter the Way of the Mandalore.

To be Hunter, or Prey, was the Way of the Mandalore. As their Warrior Culture evolved, from one source to another, these incredibly Martial People began cloaking their bodies in various styles of body armour. While the aesthetics varied from one Clan to another, the original sets of Mandalorian armour found themselves all ascribing to similar patterns that eventually evolved throughout the ages. All of which usually resolved around the iconic T-shaped visor set within a domed helmet, and honeycombed armour plates. There were other additions that inevitably were woven into overall design as time progressed ever-forward, but these attachments were wholly optional as long as the original design was respected with great care, and was often adapted to suit the wearer’s combat style. Some suits of armour were even passed down throughout the generations, imbued with the unseen essence of hundreds of Mandalorian warriors and the myriad battles they’ve fought.

While there were a plethora of materials from which Mandalorian armour could be made, there was a special ore that was found upon their ancestrally colonized homeland of Mandalore, called Beskar - or Mandalorian iron. It was found to be highly resistant to energy weapons, including the weapons of an Order of Sorcerers called Jedi, which made this rare metallic substance highly sought after, by Mandalorians and Anti-Jedi organizations alike. However, it was rare to see large quantities of Beskar outside Mandalorian hands, at least until the aftermath of a devastating Civil War that ended not long after the reformation of the Galactic Republic, into the First Galactic Empire. Then, it was rarer still to find a Forgemaster, with Beskar tools, that was capable of forming and reshaping the Beskar plates, let alone repairing the damage to a Mandalorian’s Cuirass.

With the cyclical nature of history, it wasn’t long until an insidious Interstellar Empire sought to claim the veins of Beskar for themselves. When the Clans and their Empire were split asunder, thanks to failures of Mandalore the Unworthy, their accessibility to their iconic, and ancestral birthright was all but severed. Sure, there were planets across the galaxy that had access to such a precious metal, but their stockpiles paled in comparison to what the Planet of Mandalore once had at their disposal. It was too much of a risk, especially when the future was uncertain and the Forgemasters were divisive. Why would they expend what little Beskar they had to cloak what few Warrior’s walked the Path of the Mandalore? However, through much deliberation, a Single Forgemaster came forth with a solution - One that would satisfy either side in some fashion or another.

The armour that they would clad their fledgling Neo-Crusaders with wasn't to be formed from Beskar. Not until Mandalore was reclaimed from the Sith, and whatever stockpiles that were stolen from them were recovered. Until then, their Neo-Crusader’s cuirass would be forged from a suitable replacement, a collection of materials that mimicked the strengths and weaknesses of their beloved Beskar - but were, thankfully, considerably more common. With this new plating composition, the Forgemasters would be able to easily produce a considerable number of armoured suits in a short amount of time. Which would turn out to be fortuitous as the Sons of Mandalore began ramping up for a Reclamation Crusade, and this new variant of Iron Skin, or Beskar’gam would prove to be invaluable for the nascent Neo-Crusaders.

From there, the Neo-Crusader’s Cuirass would be outfitted with an advanced form of their crushgaunt technology, which would enhance the strength, and subsequently the agility of the wearer by a significant margin. These tried-and-true augmentations would be further enhanced by specialized Rybcoarse fibres that would be woven into electro-reactive fibres of the bodyglove, which would add to the already considerable augmentation ability of the crushgaunt technology. The same was done to the gauntlets, but due to the lack of beskar woven into the design, these variants of Crushgaunts were incapable of catching the plasmatic fury of a lightsabre. An unfortunate drawback of utilizing materials that weren’t Beskar, but if a Neo-Crusader allowed an enemy Sorcerer to get the advantage and strike with their plasma sabre - they would either get what they deserve, or adapt. Hunter, or Prey.

Adding to their augmentation capabilities, the Neo-Crusader Cuirass was outfitted with a host of integrated weapon systems. As was tradition amongst many of their ancestors, the Vambraces would be the focal point for a considerable number of these weapons, whilst others had the pleasure of being outfitted elsewhere. The three most notable standards amongst the Neo-Crusader’s Cuirass were the wrist-mounted laser and flamethrower, alongside the integrated wrist-mounted micro-rocket launcher. All of which reinforced the Armour’s capability as a walking armoury, but also offered an unparalleled form of versatility on the battlefield. Being capable of engaging armoured, and unarmoured targets alike - without the need for being bogged down by heavy weaponry?

It’s one of the many reasons why Mandalorians were often considered to be the greatest warriors in the galaxy. A legacy that they shall once again reclaim.

As was tradition amongst the various Clans, or Houses of Mandalore, there were always customizations to be made. The Neo-Crusader’s Cuirass was more than capable of being modified to suit the wearer’s needs. This could vary from new additions to the armour, replaced vambraces, or an overhaul to the visual aesthetics - befitting the Warrior’s tastes, and/or the needs of the various species who’ve proven themselves worthy. No matter what changes would be made, the Cuirass would form the very foundations of the Crusader’s panoply - and likely save them from grievous harm in the ensuing Crusades against the many enemies of the Mandalorian people. It was, and would be as Kad Ha’rangir willed it.
