While having a monolithic culture, the Eternal Empire began as a collection of refugees from a number of different worlds, species and cultures, which brought with them their own martial arts and traditions, but ultimately, all of these martial arts would combine and from them would emerge a new tradition that combines elements from a number of techniques, most notably Echani and Mandalorian, due to some of the Empire's troops having received training from mercenaries belonging to these groups, which ultimately had a significant influence over what would become the Nelvaanian style of swordsmanship.
A preference for double-edged, well-balanced longswords soon emerged, as well as the blacksmiths to forge them, which perfected their craft over the years as their weapons and the techniques to wield them, became more prevalent. A Nelvaanian longsword is a one-to-one point three meter bladed, double-edged Phrik sword with a two-handed grip, but it can be wielded one-handed as well.
As they lack any of the mechanical components utilized in vibroswords, they are lighter than other swords of comparable size, but they also lack the distinctive features of vibroswords. Forged out of Phrik, they can block lightsabers, one of their more notorious capabilities.
Each Nelvaanian longsword is a handcrafted weapon, forged by master blacksmiths with painstaking attention to detail, resulting in some of the highest quality swords in the galaxy. They are sometimes exported by Karavin Concern, but they are usually very difficult to acquire outside of Nelvaan.
Such weapons are sometimes offered as gifts by Nelvaanian aristocracy and are a signature weapon of the Wolfguards, the Eternal Emperor's personal bodyguards.
