Need a change

This character needs a new path in life. He’s basically existed as the main villain to my Jedi since his days as an npc. Basically Dax comes from a religion that says he needed to redeem his species. A lot of them were killed or put in a sleeping trance during a civil war. So for his entire life that has been his mission, but he needs his twin to do this. His twin recently burned his home to the ground and left their planet in ruins. Dax snapped as he realized his home was gone and he’d never fulfill his destiny. So now he needs a new purpose.

This is a lot like Avatar where Zuko goes through a metamorphosis when he finally gives up hunting the avatar to restore his honor.

The issue is I don’t know what’s next. I don’t know if he should start trying to find a new way to wake his ancestors or if he should join a faction or what he should do. I’m open to ideas. I joined CIS but haven’t done anything there yet. I could stay or change or I don’t know.

Well... Since you've joined the CIS...
You can always join the Eternal Empire.
It's a CIS subfaction, with fancy warships, fanatical armies, and it's own militaristic way of doing things.
Also, you can learn to become a necromancer, a Psi Corps member (if you like to use the dark side to torture people and decimate their mid)
Yeah, there are a lot of options. And you don't need to go a long way from where you already are!

I don't know if its as simple as join a faction. I think the character needs to go through a complete transition. Has anybody ever changed their characters majorly?

Give it a little while. Veronika was an Imperial agent with jealousy issues from another board but didn't really have a good character development. It wasn't until I tweaked her identity to give her some new stuff to do (fashion designer) that makes the character interesting to write.

So my suggestion is let it brew a while. Consider adding more traits and background to the existing character and tweak the personality a little. Over time hopefully you can figure out something :)

I recommend finding a "personal rival". That defined one of my characters for months, as he was a bounty hunter hunting down Lady Kay, and once she got caught, and I realized that I wasn't very good bounty hunter, I changed to a more species appropriate profession and worked within a faction. But having a 'serious' rival can give a sort of temporary 'goal' that allows you to work out the character in new ways and find their overarching purpose.

I appreciate the responses. I realize a post like this is vague and hard to reply to because I didn't give an idea of what I needed.

I think what I might need is people to play some characters that I need for a story I'm creating. I will figure out the details and post something up soon.

Changed a few :D.

My advice(s)

1) Pick a concept to transition to. Then do stages of it. - This has a lot of play, in different situations but means the character is more in flux.

2) Pick an idea, and come hell or high water stick with it. - This stubborness will give him his own charm, both love and hate.

3) Get a character you currently own, or someone else does, and tie him into their story in a different way. Makes him more a supporting role, but gets a lot of play from those people or that faction.

4) I noticed your other add. The writers would be backing you up. Which is great, but unless you can invest them in that role as well, you may find even the best friends muse will fizz out. It can work, if you are willing to let them add their stamp on it, make it their own. - Just some friendly advice, not to get discouraged if that happens. So play up the nemesis, and let them help form the shape of it.

5) Have a look out there in movies, tv or books, anything that you've ever wanted to write and say BAM that one. See what happens. If it doesn't stick, rinse and repeat.

6) Completely blank slate. Throw the idea of a concept out the window. Memory Loss, stranger, newcomer, force breach, etc. Turn up to a thread, and write the personality out there and then. Go with the charm or the awkwardness, or the want to form a connection, or the feeling of detachment or whatever comes up. Burn down the bar, get completely blasted drunk. That then is the characters start. Every thread you add a bit more - FUN But the character will start off weak as a wet paper towel, or blank and flat, up to you to fill in the blanks.
