PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Nagual is a tall, unnervingly lean figure whose presence carries an almost aristocratic precision. His face is pale and sharply angular, framed by dark hair swept back from a high forehead, while his eyes burn with an unnatural crimson intensity that makes even his most casual expression difficult to read. There is a deliberate theatricality to his appearance: high-collared robes, sweeping mantles, severe black and crimson garments, pale metallic ornamentation, and the occasional piece of antique armor or surgical equipment incorporated into his attire with absolutely no concern for whether the combination makes practical sense. He may arrive from a laboratory in ceremonial robes and gloves, attend a diplomatic function wearing the remnants of some ancient Sith cuirass, or emerge from an archaeological expedition looking more like a deranged cleric than a conventional warrior. Everything about him seems carefully constructed, yet never entirely stable. The longer one looks at Nagual, the stronger the impression becomes that something is subtly and profoundly wrong: not that he is physically monstrous, but that his features, mannerisms, and even the way he carries himself have been refined, altered, and reconstructed too many times by someone who was brilliant enough to improve upon nature but eventually forgot what the original was supposed to look like.

PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS

Nagual is an eccentric, brilliant, profoundly unstable intellectual whose relationship with the Sith is considerably more complicated than his collection of titles would suggest. He is a follower of the philosophical tradition attributed to Darth Ruin, believing that civilization, knowledge, and the Force itself are trapped in cycles of fragmentation, reconstruction, destruction, and recombination. Where others see contradictions, Nagual sees raw material. Where others see forbidden knowledge, he sees an unfinished experiment. He possesses none of the austere, martial dignity commonly associated with the Sith. Instead, he is theatrical, petty, distractible, sarcastic, occasionally childish, and possessed of a bizarre sense of humor that can surface at catastrophically inappropriate moments. He may spend hours discussing metaphysics, genetics, hyperspatial engineering, or the nature of consciousness with extraordinary precision, then abruptly become fascinated by something trivial or wander away in the middle of an important conversation because he has remembered an experiment he began several years earlier.

For all his instability, Nagual is not unintelligent chaos. Quite the opposite. His mind is terrifyingly capable, but appears to have been damaged by the sheer volume of information, experimentation, Force exposure, isolation, and self-modification accumulated over an unknown span of years. He thinks several steps ahead and in directions other people do not realize exist, but those steps are often arranged in a maze whose architect has forgotten to label the doors. Nagual's deepest conviction is that the Sith have repeatedly crippled themselves by confusing power with understanding. He does not reject power, nor does he reject the Dark Side, but he regards both as tools rather than sacred ends. In this, he is profoundly Ruinist: the galaxy must be broken down, understood, and rebuilt, including the Sith themselves if necessary.

STRENGTHS

[+] Genius-Level Scientific and Technical Ability. Nagual is one of the Covenant's foremost scientists, engineers, researchers, and technological theorists. His expertise spans fields that most institutions would divide among dozens of specialists, and he is particularly dangerous when permitted access to ancient technology, forbidden archives, unusual biological material, or enough time to experiment. He is often more valuable to a Sith state in a laboratory or shipyard than on a battlefield.

[+] Relentless Intellectual Curiosity. Nagual will go where others will not, study what others consider useless, and ask questions other people are too afraid or too unimaginative to formulate. Decades spent in the Unknown Regions and other distant frontiers have made him exceptionally capable of independent research, adaptation, and survival outside established centers of power.

WEAKNESSES

[-] Unstable Mind. Nagual's intellect has not emerged from decades of isolation, experimentation, and immersion in forbidden knowledge entirely intact. He is distractible, erratic, prone to tangents, and occasionally incapable of recognizing when his own behavior has become alarming. Whether this instability is the result of natural deterioration, deliberate self-modification, Force experimentation, or all three remains uncertain.

[-] Relatively Weak in the Force. By Sith standards, Nagual is not an imposing Force-user. He is nowhere near the martial or metaphysical power associated with the great Lords of the Sith, and it is not even universally agreed that he genuinely qualifies as either a Sith Knight or Sith Lord. His influence rests primarily upon knowledge, usefulness, reputation, and the fact that eliminating him may mean losing access to information nobody else understands.

HISTORY

Very little is known with certainty about the being now called Nagual. His early life has vanished behind contradictory accounts, deliberate falsifications, lost records, and what may simply be his own inability to remember certain portions of it correctly. The first reasonably credible references to him place Nagual within the Church of the Dark Side, where he spent decades as a relatively high-ranking servant, functionary, researcher, and occasional agent of Darth Solipsis. The precise nature of their relationship remains unclear. Some believe Nagual was merely a useful subordinate elevated because of his extraordinary scientific abilities. Others maintain that Solipsis personally trained him in the Force, perhaps as an apprentice, though there is little evidence that Nagual ever achieved the conventional level of mastery expected from such training. Whatever the truth, his long proximity to Solipsis gave him access to institutions, archives, laboratories, and political networks far beyond what his personal rank might otherwise have justified.

At some point, Nagual began spending increasingly long periods away from the centers of Sith power. He traveled into the Unknown Regions and other poorly charted territories, pursuing archaeological expeditions, scientific investigations, technological research, and rumors of lost knowledge. His journeys became sufficiently extensive that, for long stretches, it was unclear whether he remained loyal to the Church at all. He nevertheless continued to reappear, usually with some new body of research, impossible device, obscure artifact, or theory that was either revolutionary, useless, catastrophically dangerous, or all three at once. Over time, his reputation ceased to fit neatly within the ordinary categories of Sith society. He was not a great warrior. He was not an important military commander. He was not a particularly powerful Force-user. Yet powerful Sith continued to tolerate, employ, and occasionally protect him because Nagual had become something much rarer: a man who knew things.

His adherence to the school of thought associated with Darth Ruin appears to have developed during these decades of research and isolation. Nagual became increasingly convinced that the great failure of the Sith was not insufficient ambition, but intellectual stagnation. Sith empires rose, centralized themselves around powerful individuals, codified their knowledge, declared their conclusions final, and eventually shattered under the weight of their own rigidity. Nagual saw fragmentation not merely as disaster but as an opportunity for recombination. To destroy an order was not necessarily to end it. One could study the pieces, remove the defective components, and construct something stranger and potentially greater from what remained. It is unclear whether Nagual understands how deeply this philosophy applies to himself.

By the time he emerged as a more independent figure, his formal status had become almost impossible to determine. Nagual possesses a remarkable number of titles, designations, honors, scientific credentials, Sith appellations, and ceremonial styles, many of which appear to be entirely self-invented. Whether he is truly a Sith Knight or Lord is a matter of persistent debate, and Nagual himself seems to find the question hilarious. He has been known to answer differently depending upon his mood, the audience, and whether he believes the person asking is sufficiently entertaining. What cannot be seriously disputed is that he remains a follower of the Dark Side and a formidable mind within the broader Sith world, even if his power comes less from the Force than from the machinery between his ears.

Nagual is therefore something of an anomaly: a relatively weak Sith who has survived among monsters by making himself indispensable; a genius whose intellect may have been damaged beyond conventional repair; a scholar of destruction who can behave with almost absurd childishness; and a man whose true history has become so obscured by decades of wandering, experimentation, secrecy, and self-mythologization that perhaps even Nagual no longer knows where the story begins. He does not seem particularly bothered by this. In fact, when confronted with conflicting accounts of his own past, he is rumored to have suggested that the incorrect versions should be preserved because "they may become true later."
