STANDARD FEATURES
- O/S Cresh
- Standard Communications Array
- Standard Ion Engines
- Standard Navigational Systems
- Standard Repulsorlift Engines
- Standard Starfighter Weapons: Laser Cannons, Proton Torpedoes, Proton Bombs
Strengths:
- Fully Independent Droid Automation. No droid control ship required.
- Slicer-resistant Design. Multi-layer communications encryption and proprietary software handling protocols make this a difficult droid to slice.
- Elusive Target. Smaller than the average starfighter, and with inhuman reaction times, this is one hard target to hit.
- Short Range Fighter. No hyperdrive means that this starfighter is carrier-dependent.
- Glass Cannon. The MVSP Mk I lacks ray shielding or armor plating, relying instead on speed and agility. This means that a single hit can be devastating.
- Vulnerable to Ion Energy. Because it has no human pilot, any disruption of the onboard computer systems will render the battle droid inoperable.
- Flight Systems Dependent. Unlike the Vulture Droids of the CIS, the M.V.S.P. Mk I isn't capable of terrestrial movement or locomotion. If its repulsor propulsion is disabled or it is otherwise rendered flight inoperable, the battle droid will be immobilized.
- Peculiar Accent. Because of the use of O/S Cresh, other droids have a hard time understanding this droid.
In 844 ABY, Corellia Digital unveiled the first generation Multi-Vector Self-Propelled Battle Droid, Mk I. Limited to a run of just 25 units, the original droid starfighter served as a test bed for the company's developing weapons division to experiment with. The vision was a company that would rely on droid-based automation to alleviate manning and training requirements in protecting and operating its trade fleet. Drawing on his knowledge and experience from the Clone Wars, Sor-Jan Xantha acquired several Class 4 droid brains from Aurora Industries' Cybernetics Division. Developing a unibody frame for hosting the droid brain, aerodynamic panels were added for ease of atmospheric flight operations. The lack of humanoid support systems aided in minimizing the size of the resulting battle droid, saving valuable space and better enabling transports to carry the lightweight interceptor for patrol, deterrence, and protection.
Over the next decade, the company would unveil the next iteration of its defense research and development; predominantly the Mark II and Mark III battle droids. Then, in 858 ABY, the company brought the original Mark Is back into production for a next generation droid starfighter that was intended to update the company catalog as the stock starfighter in the company's arsenal.
