Weaknesses:
  • Limited ammunition
  • Slow, ponderous
  • Large target: they can be spotted by the enemy as soon as it enters firing range
  • Infantry must operate some distance away from the vehicle because of the ERA's hazards
  • Mobile missile launcher becomes unstable in flight if flying altitudes are too high above ground (5 meters above ground or more at normal gravity)
Description: When it became apparent that the MTT-X's turbolaser blind spots reduced its operational usefulness, it was decided to refit the MTT-X with a different weapons suite, with the anti-personnel laser cannons then mounted on the ball turrets being replaced by heavy laser cannons, and also the missile tubes being replaced by three larger flex-tubes capable of mounting fighter-mounted ordnance such as concussion missiles and proton torpedoes. Also, the anti-personnel cannons are now side-mounted. The main change is that it can no longer carry any troops whatsoever, with the space being gutted and replaced by an assault concussion missile launcher. ERA made the vehicle heavier but it reinforced its defenses against projectile weapons, at the cost of having infantry operate some distance away from the vehicle. Nevertheless, the sheer size of the chassis came with its own shortcomings: its concealability is poor and hence it is a large target for any enemy. The MTT-XI is also available as an after-market option for the MTTs still in service.
