Mother-Daughter Piloting Lessons

Planetary Orbit, Malachor V

The Fury-class interceptor swooped into position. Today was another day of learning for Alraune, daughter of [member="Vanessa Vantai"]. As with her regular regimen of lightsaber forms and force application, it was now time for the young Vinthi to learn how to pilot and fight in a starfighter. It was thought that, because the Sith Empire regularly engages in space combat, that she would need to learn how to pilot. Accompanying her on this ship was a pilot droid meant ot act as her co-pilot, but only in the mostly minimalist sense. This test was going to be mostly the girl's performance.

"Checking all systems. Everything looks ready, Mother." She patched into her commlink to her creator, "I'm ready when you are."

She had no idea as to how her mother would test her. She was excited, and anticipatory. Like everything, her mentality was to look at it like a child. And what Sith child would not find fun in blasting enemies out of the proverbial sky?

Over the past year or so, Vanessa had been responsible for training her 'daughter' of sorts, [member="Alraune Vantai"], in the ways of being a top-notch starfighter pilot. It started with the same basic training all Imperial fighter pilots went through - simulations and the like. But now it was time for her to get the opportunity to shoot at a real target. A combination of target drones, some of the old Fragmentors and new Scrapmetals, had been set aside for use in this particular training example.

"I'm glad you got up early for this, sleepyhead." Vanessa smiled as she spoke to her daughter over the communicator. "Alright, here are the basic details. you will be providing escort, by yourself, to this Tryton-class Cargo hauler, the Thrall. Your goal is to escort the ship while its jump drives 'recharge' - symbolized by it successfully reaching that holopoint off in the distance." She said. "When you're ready, I will start the simulation. Remember - no one's actually at risk of dying if you fail - the Thrall is completely automated and has no cargo on board. That said - the concussion missile launchers and lasers on these ships are very real. Stay safe."

Of course, the fighters would ignore her ship if its structural integrity was found to have reached a certain point, but Vanessa was certain Alraune would never reach that state.

If she did... Vanessa would never be able to forgive herself.

"Ready, Mother!" Alraune said, moving into position beside the Thrall.

Soon enough, the simulation began. The dummy freighter began its sluggish path to the endpoint. The Vinthi kept close, eyes always scanning for the first wave. She kept watch on scanners as well.

Scanners soon rang as the drones descended upon the pilot and her escort. With a wicked smile, she grabbed tighly to the controls and broke from her position to engage.
.
"Here's where the fun begins!" She chuckled cockily through her comms.

She swerved and weaved through the concussive fire. She was doing rather well, picking or chasing off drones that got too close. Yet, her form was still amateurish and filled with teenaged overconfidence. One drone managed to brush one of her wings. Very minor damage, but a mistake a novice should not commit.

"Damn it!" She shouted, swooping ger craft to meet the drone that clipped her.

The youthful. Easily flung into a rage when they screw up. She pursued it, but was getting a little far from her escort.

"Language." Vanessa told her daughter cheekily. "Besides, that was just the first wave." The Fragmentors had been easy enough to destroy - now Vanessa was sending in a full two wings of them. "Remember, just because you have the superior craft doesn't mean you always have the advantage. Sometimes numbers truly can outperform the quality of a pilot." Another group of fighters from Virgo wing came in, soon to be joined by Libra wing, also Fragmentors as well. It would not be until the third 'round' that Vanessa would send in the Scrapmetals, giving her daughter a real surprise.

Not too much of a surprise, of course. She didn't want anything super-bad to happen to Alraune.

"Sorry, mum." Came the grumbling, apologetic response.

The green girl kepted her focus on the incoming wave. More of the machines that she just bested, yet she employed a different strategy. While she picked off some, she was instead luring others to her. It seemed like a desperately one-sided thing, like Alraune was a rabbit hunted by a pack of hounds. That was, however, until she circled and corkscrewed between some of the drones. A chain reaction a occured when the drones did not course-correct in time to collide and explode against one another. The plant-girl then returned to dropping them as previously.

She was enjoying the rush of this battle. The adrenaline, the excitement. The thrill of the chase. It was pumping her connection to the dark side. Her eyes began to yellow and orange, her tactics seeming to become little more aggressive. Her signature in the Force reflected this. She was becoming an avid hunter of these drones, but perhaps to enthralled in the persecieved carnage. With the wave decimated, she returned to flank the freighter, ready for the next wave.

"Don't get too cocky, dear. Now the real fun begins." A swarm of the Scrapmetal drones would come across and move to engage Alraune's fighter. While she was distracted by them - they had shields comparable to that of a heavy bomber - a wing of Fragmentors would make a run on the freighter. "Common distraction maneuver - try and tangle the Fragmentors up in the swarm of Scrapmetals so the latter don't keep you distracted from the former."

That was important, after all.
