DESCRIPTION

The latest in Helix's series of anomalous metals, Morphium is intended to serve a variety of military and civilian applications.

In it default form, Morphium resembles the liquid-metallic structure of Mercury more than the solid substances of other Helix-created metals. It is dark gray in color, with small glistening silver particles throughout. Occasionally, ripples disturb its surface without apparent cause, and it can appear to rhythmically "breathe" when idle. Indeed, Morphium is seldom entirely inactive. Small droplets separate briefly from the whole before being reabsorbed, sharp edges soften, and images reflected in its surface might lag ever-so-slightly behind reality.

Morphium is similar to the substance found in liquid-cable launchers, though somewhat more sophisticated in application. Like this substance, it is capable of shifting its state from liquid to solid under the proper stimulus.

However, Morphium is not only capable of shifting back to liquid from solid, but altering its overall shape and structure to a profound degree. For example, a pyramidal chunk of solid Morphium might change into a shapeless puddle, then into a perfect cube on demand. Nor is the substance limited to adopting shape; color and texture changes can be achieved as well.

This makes it ideal for the creation of of parts intended to undergo significant and constant tensile stress, as deforming Morphium is by definition difficult. It can simply reassume its prior shape if damaged or warped. Nor can such objects be easily destroyed by force; a damaged Morphium object can simply flow back together again in short order. Nonetheless, especially constant or unrelenting damage can blast the material apart, and it is used more for its ability to repair damage than any special ability to resist it.

Nonetheless, Morphium is still a Helix-created material, and inherently plays fast and loose with traditional conventions of what is and isn't possible from a metallurgical standpoint.

For these same reasons, Morphium is also ideal for devices intended to serve more than one purpose, as it can alter its shape to perform one function, then perform a separate function just as easily. The full extent of the substance's military utility is still being explored at this time.

The resultant logistical advantages can scarcely be overstated, as the widespread proliferation of multi-purpose Morphium tools has enabled the elimination and repurposing of entire lines of supply.
