- Organization Name: Morellian Rangers/Commonwealth Rangers
- Classification: Law Enforcement Agency
- Affiliation: Morellian Commonwealth
- Organization Symbol: The symbol of the Rangers is one widely recognized across Morellian space: the eagle of the Commonwealth over a five-pointed star inside of a circle.
- Description: The Commonwealth Rangers are an elite law enforcement agency within the Morellian Commonwealth dedicated to combating the most dangerous threats it faces, both without and within.
- Headquarters: The Rangers are headquartered in the heart of the Commonwealth, in a building that watches over the capital.
- Domain: As the most experienced veteran lawmen available Rangers have jurisdiction throughout the Morellian Commonwealth, able to pursue threats across worlds, systems, or even sectors. During the Gulag Virus, this jurisdiction was used to combat its spread by any means necessary.
- Notable Assets: In addition to Ranger HQ in the heart of Morellia's capital, each populated world in the Morellian Commonwealth has at least one Ranger Station, small buildings manned by about 4 Rangers with long-range transceivers.

- Hierarchy: At the top of the small chain that makes up the Rangers' hierarchy is the Marshal, the head of the agency; a position currently occupied by the Force-Sensitive Zyre Reid. Beneath the Marshal are the Chiefs, or System Chiefs, who each oversee a system. The officer who oversees the operations of a given Ranger Station is referred to by the title of Captain or Ranger Captain. Besides these three, there is little division within the Rangers. With the few Rangers manning each Ranger Station, any more division is unnecessary, with each Ranger respecting the others' experience.
- Membership: To become a Commonwealth Ranger one must first serve in the Morellian Enforcers, as all Rangers are drawn from their ranks. From among the Enforcers the most seasoned, experienced officers are hand-picked by the Marshal or System Chief, and are given a case to solve or target to track. Once this assignment is completed, an Enforcer officially becomes a Ranger and receives their badge, hand cannon, and armor.
- Climate: With every Ranger coming from the same background of long service in law enforcement, there is a mutual respect shared between all Rangers. Among the eldest Rangers, though, there is a solemnity to them not as often found in younger ones, as these Rangers served when the Gulag Plague was still a potential threat even as it was fading away.
- Reputation: There are few more feared by outlaws in the Commonwealth than the Morellian Rangers. Many a desperado have met their maker at the end of a Ranger's iron, and it is only the brave and the foolhardy who try to take them on. Though their reputation in the eyes of the Commonwealth's citizens has recovered in the 400+ years since the Gulag Virus began and around 200 since the threat of the Virus began to lessen, Morellians have long lives and longer memories, and families, cities, and worlds across the Commonwealth still bear the scars of the efforts the Rangers took to combat the spread of the Gulag Virus.
- Curios: Morellian Rangers are easily identified by their gunmetal armor, red-lensed combat helmets with built-in breath masks, and the long spacer's leather oilcoats they don over their armor, and the mighty .48 caliber hand cannons they wield. Rangers also possess a badge-comm displaying their insignia, which is more often worn when the ranger is in noncombat attire.
- Rules: The Rangers follow a creed set out by their founder centuries ago, which is as follows: "I swear to uphold the laws set forth by the Morellian Commonwealth, and ensure the safety and security of my fellow man no matter the cost. Everything I do, I do for the greater good of the people I serve. All things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever. I believe in my Creator, my Commonwealth, my fellow man." Aside from this creed, the Rangers follow and enforce the laws of the Morellian Commonwealth.
- Goals: The Rangers' primary goal is ensuring the safety and security of the Commonwealth by hunting the most dangerous threats to that safety and eliminating them, whether they be outlaws, dangerous beasts, or invading armies. As the Gulag Plague showed this duty also includes, in especially dire circumstances, the infected victims of deadly, destructive diseases.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

A Ranger in noncombat attire
Formed centuries ago around the time of the outbreak of the Gulag Virus, the Rangers have defended the people of the Commonwealth for generations with their sixguns and their grit. While the Morellian Enforcers are no pushovers, they have their limits, and so it was decided that a more elite group should be formed to hunt down the most dangerous threats in the Commonwealth. To this end the ranks of the Enforcers were combed for the most seasoned veterans, who were given the best equipment that could be mustered and given jurisdiction over the entire Commonwealth to seek out and eliminate those deemed to pose the greatest risk to safety and security.
The Enforcers would carry out these duties with determination, helping to protect the star cluster when what little contact they had with the wider galaxy was cut off by the unfolding crisis and keeping the worlds of the Commonwealth in contact with each other. When the Virus made its way to Morellia, it was the Rangers who had the grim duty of preventing the spread by any means necessary. As the Gulag Virus spread, the measures the Rangers took became more drastic, eventually culminating in a settlement being destroyed by way of nuclear bombardment. The Ranger who ordered this bombardment is believed to have remained within the settlement, consigning themself to the same fate. The citizens of the Commonwealth, for the most part, understood the solemn necessity of the Rangers' actions during this time, but the Gulag Plague nonetheless left a black mark on the career of the Commonwealth Rangers.
The Rangers would, over time, build back their reputation through relief efforts to the survivors of the Virus, and the continued service in hunting criminals. Extreme prejudice was taken against those who sought to use the suffering as a mask for their crimes or worse, as a source of revenue; hundreds of millions of credits worth of "snake oils" and "miracle cures" were rounded up by the Rangers during the time of the Virus, and those that created and pushed these vile creations were dealt the harshest sentences possible.

In the years following the end of the Gulag crisis, it was the Rangers who were responsible for venturing out beyond the borders of the Commonwealth and re-establishing contact with the wider galaxy. In 835 ABY, with the crisis at an end, the Rangers returned to more or less business as usual, though now with the sobering knowledge of all that their duties entailed. With the whole galaxy coming out of a terrible crisis it was decided that the Commonwealth should begin embracing some changes, and as before the Rangers were the spearhead, wielding the most advanced technology they could get their hands on in the defense of their people. In recent years, the former Enforcer and creator of the weapons foundry Morellian Mechanica Zyre Reid would move operations back home, bringing with him advanced arms and armor for the Rangers as he entered the ranks once more.
In 901 ABY, the then-current Marshal would step down from his position, citing age and health concerns, and in a surprising turn of events the Rangers would elect Reid as the new Marshal. With this new leadership, from one who has explored the wider galaxy, there are sure to be great advancements to come for the Commonwealth and its Rangers.
