Monster Hunting

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
[member="Mivala Fallon"]

Monsters. Creatures of mythological folklore that were claimed to exist in the real world. To some, there were truths. And it was because of that that Vitor Imperieuse was currently out and about. With his wife having died unexpectedly, he was left as the only one to take care of the family. With a frown, he held his Sith Sword in his hand as he moved through the jungle. Lilin was not with him - she still was at home. So was Vindi. He had come here to find the creature killing members of the local tribe.

Little did he know what he was up against.

I chased the female into the jungle. She was a fast one, but nothing compared to me. She tried to jump down into a ravine. I leaned outward from the tree I was perched in and caught her before she could do so. She attempted a scream, but I covered her mouth. I could feel her heartbeat through her skin. It was fast, and strong... I tasted her skin. She was a sweet one. Before I indulged my hunger, I put my lips to her ear. "I am so very sorry," I whispered, meaning every word. And then, I drank from her. She contorted in pain with no noise escaping her lips. She went limp to minutes later. Carefully, I carried her down to the jungle floor. I rested her against the base of the tree as if she were merely sleeping. It pained me to hunt others. But I had to survive. With a final farewell, I left her there.

The Force sensed an unnatural spike in the area, something Vitor used as a tracker to further follow this monster. Pausing, he considered the circumstances and, moving forward, stepped into the area where the body of the recently deceased victim was. With a pause, he examined her corpse - like the others, she died from loss of blood and energy, brought upon through a bite to the neck. Acting on a hunch, Vitor stayed near the body and issued a vocal challenge to whatever creature lurked in the shadows.

"Show yourself, pursuer of my peoples' blood!"

I stopped when I heard someone yelling. The body had been found so soon? I turned to see who had found her. It was a man with a sword. I could feel the Force about him. My initial thought was to run, but I would be pursued and eventually caught. There was no sense in delaying the inevitable. So, I gathered my courage, and stepped into the light of the sun so that he could see me.

Pausing, Vitor eyed over the intriguing, scantily clad, yellow-eyed, pale-skinned woman. Raising an eyebrow, he stepped toward her, then placed the sword in his sheath. "Well, you aren't exactly what I expected to be hunting down the members of the tribe I protect." He stayed quiet for a brief moment. "My name is Vitor Imperieuse, former Padawan of the Jedi Order. Who and what are you?"

She was clearly a vampiress... but he would be careful in regards to that sort of thing. She did remind him of someone...

I straightened what little clothing I wore: I travel light when hunting. "My name is Mivala Fallon. I am a Tera Vampir. I am very sorry that I was forced to hunt your tribe, but you must understand that I have gone without proper nourishment for several weeks. I admit, I have a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to feed. I cannot express the guilt that I feel for having brought this upon you."

Pausing, Vitor turned to the female vampire, eying her over. "Tera Vampir? Never heard of your kind before, honestly. Still, I suppose that since you're a sentient in need of blood, I should assist you." Pausing, he considered the circumstances, then thought of the situation, still perceiving her as a woman similar to Lilith, his deceased wife. "How about you come and live with me? I have plenty of connections off-world that could give you the meals you so desperately need." He considered the circumstances, then stepped towards her.

"Besides... You seem strangely attractive, and as someone who's done terrible things himself out of desperation, I can look past your vampiric tendencies."

I step backward as he tries to come near. "As kind as your offer is, Vitor, I must decline. It is not only blood that I crave. The bodies you found. Did they feel 'empty'? As if no energy remained?"

"They had no life left in them. You took it all. I know. But I'm not concerned about that. You're very similar to my daughter - in fact, she has the exact same life-draining capabilities as yourself. It made my wife physically drained, unfortunately, and the villagers desire to sacrifice her. I need someone like you to teach her how to control her powers and make sure she remains safe. And in exchange..." he paused, considering the circumstances. "I offer you my life energy anytime you need it, as well as any blood packs necessary for your survival. Considering my past as a host for an immortal, you will not successfully kill me by draining my life energy, as I have an immense amount of it."

He realized what he was considering doing was a major risk, but he had lost the love of his life. He didn't care.

I shook my head, confused. "Why are you so trusting? I am a monster. I slaughtered those of your tribe for my own selfish gain. And yet you offer me a place in your house, even your own life energy. I fail to see any reason why you wouldn't just slay me where I stand, and be done with it."

"Because that's the kind of person Jedi are supposed to be, and..." He sighed. She didn't understand any of this, and rightfully so. Sitting down, he began to explain. "I'm not like you, Mivala. I'm not like you or anyone in this galaxy except for very, VERY few people. Probably none of whom care to talk about anything. And funny enough, one of them was a vampiress, just like you..."

He then recounted to her, in short, what had happened to him. He explained how he had once been possessed by the spirit of Vitiate, who controlled him and imparted his Dark Side knowledge upon the young man. Vitiate then used him to turn and nearly kill almost all of the Jedi on that outpost in the Unknown Regions. Hence why he was sealed away on Nathema for so long...

"I'm sorry. I should've told you this sooner. But as Vitiate, I killed billions, if not trillions of people, just for their life force. What you do pales in comparison."

I listened to the man's tale. I raised my eyebrows in amazement when he was finished. "You... you were like me once?" I said, though I didn't expect an answer. I sighed. "Very well. I will come home with you. But I do not promise a permanent stay."

"Yes, I was. And I know how it feels. That's why I want you to stay with me - because I can help you, and because I empathize with your plight." He paused, nodding at her final comment. "I understand. That's your perogative. Please, follow me and take my hand. I promise I will never harm you for as long as you and I live in the same house." He smiled, eager to have a guest with him. Considering his wife had passed, she was the female company he needed.

I help up my hand. "If you do not mind, I shall follow from the trees. I cannot risk your tribesman spotting me, for they know what I am now." With this being said, I used the Force and jumped jumped into the canopy.

Smiling, knowing the stalking vampiress was going to be following his Force aura, Vitor began to return to the village, listening intently as he did so. Before he left the area, however, he buried the most recent victim of Mivala's hunger, giving her the rest she deserved. Once getting home, he smiled, waiting at the front door for a knock indicating that the Tera Vampir had reached his home.

When that happened, it would all be good.

I soundlessly landed in front of a small abode. Vitor had just gone inside. Gently, I raise my knuckle to the door and lightly tap it three ties. The door shudders slightly as I knock.

Opening the door, Vitor smiled, kindly helping the Tera Vampir inside as he motioned to the house's only adult bedroom - the only other 'bedroom' was for Lilin and Vindi. "Well... I suppose there are two options. The first is that we share the best. Don't worry - I refuse to do anything unless you agree to it or request it. The second is that you get the bed and I get the floor. Either is fine with me, of course."

As the man spoke, I could feel the presence of others in the home with us. They smelled human. I turned my head in the direction of the smell. The life energy coming from them was small, as if they were... "Who are the children?" I asked. My gaze lingered on their bedroom door.

"The oldest is my daughter, Lilin. She is the one who drains people of life through presence alone. I have taught her to control her powers to a degree that they don't harm people anymore. The youngest is my son, Vindi. He wields the power to disrupt machinery. Both of them are feared by the locals as monsters, demons even. Like you." He sighed. "Which is why my place is the safest residence for you to live at while you are here."

I nodded. I would meet with the in the morning. I turned and headed into the bedroom Vitor had mentioned earlier. It was fairy small, but cozy enough for two people. I sat down on the right side of the bed. "You have a nice home," I said.
