STRENGTHS
- The Big Iron: As a result of it's enlarged bore and chamber, the KVD-04 has massive stopping power, and is capable of bringing down light vehicles and piercing most personal armors. Whilst it cannot penetrate Beskar-based armors, it can leave a significantly large dent and cause massive blunt force trauma.
- Authorized User: The Bio-metric scanner located within the grips will only allow someone of 99.5% genetic match to effectively use the weapon. This doubles as it's safety, however due to it's size, only one user can be programmed to the weapon at a time.
- Long Range: Due to the KVD-04's excessive caliber and ammunition type, it has a massive effective range, however it does sacrifice accuracy past 75 meters.
WEAKNESSES
- Wrist Breaker: Due to the sheer force of each round fired, Ket uses the Force in conjuntion with the integrated recoil dampening when firing. Without it, this weapon would require two hands to fire simply as to not injure one's hands and/or wrists. If cut off from the Force, this effectively makes the gun exceedingly hard to handle.
- 4 of a Kind: The KVD-04 uses a modified revolving chamber from a Protector slugthrower, and due to the high caliber of the ammunition, can only hold 4 rounds maximum at a time. Reloading is also an issue as a result.
- Bantha In A China Shop: The KVD-04 produces a very loud, almost cannon-like thunk every time it is fired. Stealth is almost impossible without further modifications.
DESCRIPTION
Having used a KD-30 Dissuader as a backup weapon for a very long time, Ket Van-Derveld had decided he needed something with quite a bigger punch. Having relied on hand-to-hand combat as well as lightsaber duels, Ket's slugthrower is not something used frequently, and saved more for those rare and special occasions when intimate, close quarters combat is not an option.
Having taken the frame and other similar parts from a BlasTech RSKF-44 heavy blaster pistol, the KVD-04 was fashioned by combining parts with it from a Barimoq Protector revolver slugthrower. Many custom touches have been made, including hand-formed myoflex & agrinium hand-grips with integrated bio-metric scanner, a titanium trigger & hammer, as well as a chromium finish on the barrel and body. The modified protector barrel has reduced it's ammo size from 5 rounds to 4, allowing for a much larger caliber slug. This lends itself to more volatile and forceful ammunition, however it must be hand-loaded. again, considering it's purpose and usage, this is not much of a problem for Ket, as he typically will keep about 8 to 12 spare rounds on his person.
The caliber itself also allows for massive stopping power and transfer of kinetic energy. Most light armored vehicles can be taken down with 1 to 2 shots, and it is highly effective and piercing personal armors, including exotic and certain custom pieces. This slugthrower, however, is meant for overkill, as a show of force, as shots fired from it can still cause excessive blunt-force injury, internal bleeding, and even death depending on the armor in question. This gives it one of it's biggest weaknesses howerver; if fired by a non-Force User, it has the ability to break the bones of the one firing it unless two hands are used, and proper training on usage is learned first. Ket had this specifically in mind as another layer of protection should the weapon somehow fall into another's possession.
The Model KVD-04 'Big Iron' Heavy Slugthrower is exactly what it was designed to be, a weapon that carries the punch of a cannon that Ket can keep in a holster on his side.
